About
Nearly two centuries ago, the first grapevines were planted at Kerikeri That was the work of Samuel Marsden, the driving force behind the establishment of Anglican mission stations in New Zealand. Nearly two decades ago, Rod and Cindy MacIvor followed in his footsteps with the establishment of the vineyard and wine estate they named after him. Marsden Estate is youthful by comparison, but the vineyard, the gardens and the estate building look well settled into the sub-tropical landscape of New Zealand’s Far North. Just a few minutes’ drive from Kerikeri village, Marsden Estate offers wine sales, tastings and tours, with innovative cuisine to complement its award winning wines. It’s known for the relaxed atmosphere of its courtyard dining space overlooking the lake and vines, with innovative cuisine that showcases the unique flavours of the region.

Unfortunately it was raining so we were unable to stroll through the vineyard & gardens. So we settled on wine tasting first before proceeding to lunch so we knew what we'd like to accompany our meal. Service was quick and the food was outstanding. We shared the Goats cheese mousse with crostini & fig puree & candied walnuts $15. Then for mains spiced lamb loin with tabbouleh, feta, pumpkin seeds, chargrilled cucumber & pomegranate molasses $36. I had the beef fillet on top of mushroom puree & mashed potatoes with leeks and mahoe blue cheese $38. Both dishes cooked to perfection. To drink we had their Chambourcin a red variety we hadn't come across before but berries, spice & medium tannins and also a glass of their Syrah oak aged for 15 months which we ended up buying 2 bottles of each.

A couple of months off and Marsden is still the same, meaning that the high standard of good food, service and ambience is still there. We were thoughtfully served with two bowls as we shared the delicious main salad, the ciabatta and dips were great, and they rustled up good green beans as a side. Marsden's rosé always great, the views over the lake and vines the perfect complement. So glad we chose Marsden for our first lunch out in 60 days!

This is our favourite restaurant in Kerikeri and we have tried them all over the years. This time round it was my husbands birthday and he loves returning on a yearly basis. Lucky me.
Hubby started with a small Butternut Soup, which he pronounced delicious. For my starter I had the cibatta slices of bread and spreads, which were deliciously tasty. For our mains Hubby had the Lamb Fillets and I had the Snapper which was also delicious, although I prefer my fish being slightly undercooked. Next time we go, I'll let them know. I had two glasses of their Black Rocks Chardonnay and Hubby 2 lagers. I also brought a bottle to take home.
I had booked 2 weeks in advance and upon arrival we were seated right by the fire, which was lovely as the weather was changeable as it is our Winter season.

We came here for a joint birthday celebration with four adults. The front of the winery is a bit run down and the inside restaurant is quite dark and dowdy but once you walk thru to the outside seating area and the gardens all is forgotten. Two of us ordered garlic prawns for the entree and they were a little plain and could have done with more flavour but overall nice, The other two ordered fish of the day which was snapper and both said it was lovely. We ordered lemon meringue tart and creme brulee for dessert and the were both nice, would have preferred ice cream rather than cream with the lemon tart as it was a bit rich. we had a lovely afternoon sitting looking out at the pond and garden with the vines in the background.

We arranged a birthday luncheon for 11:30AM because their signature ahi dish is in so much demand, we didn't want to arrive late to find it gone. Luckily, there were 2 servings available, one for the birthday gal, and one for me! I have lunch at Marsden Estate two or three times a year for special occasions, and I have never been disappointed. The setting is delightful, the service is lovely, and the food (especially the seared ahi tuna) is the very best part. Did I mention that the wine is lovely. We split a bottle of wine and a bottle of soda water (wine coolers on a hot summer's day) and really enjoyed both food and drink. Did I mention the desserts were fantastic - especially the sticky date delight with ice cream.

Shabby genteel would be a nice way to describe this establishment. Its the sort of place that sales reps take prospective customers to try and impress them. More show than quality. The food was very average but with an outrageous price tag. First time in many years that I have sent a wine back as being undrinkable. They did replace it with a drinkable one . Tried two other wines but they were all $12 a bottle Supermarket quality, but with an asking price of over $40 . We did not buy.
We had a direct comparison with Karikari Estate were we had lunched the previous day. Karikari food was twice as good for half the price and their wines were better quality and more realistically priced. We purchase half a dozen.
Unless you are more interested in the garden than the food and wine, avoid Marsden Estate.

I have been going to Marsden Estate Winery for over twenty years with my friends, family and guests. We love the atmosphere and the cuisine is always impressive. The desserts are absolutely delicious as is the wine.
Cindy and Brenna , the hosts are absolutely lovely. Every single person I have ever recommended Marsden to, has been delighted with their food and service. I would highly recommend Marsden Estate Winery to to anyone that enjoys excellent food in a beautiful setting.

Came here for another Birthday Lunch as we were heading to Kerikeri and it was an impulse suggestion by my husband. When we first arrived, we thought it was booked out, but were pleasantly surprised that it was busy but not fully booked. We sat outside undercover which was very pleasant. I ordered a glass of their amazing Black Rocks Chardonnay, and hubby a glass of cold Estrella Dram. Hubby had the Snapper Special and I had the Lamb Loin, both of which were delicious and nutritious.
This our favourite restaurant in Kerikeri and we have never been disappointed. They even serve breakfast here which is also one of hubby's favourites

Outstanding lunch, nice wines and great people. Revisited the winery for lunch after 10+ years to find the same caliber of creative local food complemented with a delicious Sauvignon Blanc. The covered terrace is perfect for a hot Kerikeri day.

We had a recommendation to eat here and were so glad we did. The local snapper with the potato leek and pesto was divine. The beef fillet with the blue cheese melting through was also great. Terrific to sit outside and take in the grape covered vines. Fabulous food and great service too.

We went here randomly on a tour and fell in love. We did several tastings and found all of them fantastic. We ordered lunch as a party of 6 we ordered several things. Everything was delicious and we polished off a bottle of wine. Too bad this is on the other side of the world or it would be somewhere I would eat here and buy wine on a regular basis.

Lovely setting for a cold and rainy afternoon. Fire was roaring indoors and outdoor area was enclosed with heating.
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
We had a lovely complimentary wine tasting with our lunch. We went for the Antipasti which was plentiful and a lovely variety of meats, dips, cheeses and breads/ crackers.

Wicked way to spend an afternoon at Marsden Estate. On a scorching day we sat in the shade of the grape arbour enjoying live music by Charlotte and great food and wine.
Wine flights were generous and customised.
We loved the chards and Rose and took a few bottles of pinotage and Syrah away with us.
Entrees were scrummy; anchovy tomato crostini that would convert anyone to anchovy, and the duck hoisin spring rolls the meatiest spring rolls we have ever tasted.
The snapper main was perfect, the prawn bisque took the fish to another level.
Kudos to Brenna for the excellent conversation and service your international experience shows in spades.
We could have stayed all afternoon, but left feeling cool and replenished.

We booked ahead changing our plans as this place was booked out on our preferred date. Unfortunately the weather was wet so we weren’t able to enjoy the beautiful garden, pond and views. Our visit started with a wine tasting where we were offered up to 6 tastes of beautiful locally made wine. The menu contained a lovely variety including an additional blackboard menu that had specials of the day. The salmon was delicious and the crème brûlée perfect. The service from all staff was 💯. Highly recommend booking in advance to ensure you don’t miss out.

Pleasant visit
I had a delicious felafel vegan salad. My husband and friends had the tuna and beef noodles which they said was delicious too.
It’s a lovely venue and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
The gardens are beautiful though we didn’t walk around them this time.
Highly recommend.
