Awesome! Been dining here for years and it is always great! The food and service is up there with a Michelin 1 Star restaurant, but not the prices! This is a gem in the Wairarapa! And you can bring your dog to the bar(not the...restaurant). The international crew dishes up the best meals and service in Greytown - without the usual Greytown BS pretentiousness!!More

I’ve been here before and was curious about the negative review. If you are passing through the Wairarapa on a Monday night there isn’t actually anything much open. But as per my previous experience at 1860, the service was good, wine selection more than adequate,...and the food was great. No complaints!More

Rang to see if they did any GF dishes. Rudely told yes and to look at website. Ok benefit of doubt. Nothing on menus about GF dishes. Went to restaurant and asked staff member what was GF. The steak or the cajun chicken cooked as...ordinary chicken. Checked again with front desk and they said lots of thinks including the risotto and the calamari and anything with bread could be made GF. Asked they check with the chef and the answer comes back as the steak and the risotto. Paid for our drinks, yes in full, and left. Totally mixed messages from all staff concerned so couldn’t take risk. Stay away.More

We found it difficult to find a good restaurant in Greytown on a very busy Saturday night so settled for what we thought would be a standard "pub" meal. What a surprise we had at 1860! The decor was charming and the atmosphere "old world"....The maître d' was from Chile, the waitress from Argentina and the Chef from Austria. An unusual mix to find in New Zealand during the Covid 19 pandemic but it certainly worked. My partner had lamb and I had kingfish (fish of the day). They were both beautifully cooked. We both had a lemon pie which was also delicious. A fantastic meal and certainly not pub food. Highly recommended.More

Sorry but despite a number of good ratings the food can only be best described as average. Very woody dated decor does not help.

Sorry to hear about it. Where do you have dinner? In our restaurant or on The Top Pub (Bar)? Which day of the week? I would like to know what kind of menu did you eat that night Best

I suspect that due to covid-19 they were distancing tables to the point that the place lacked character. The service was good and the food met expectations. For the money we spent the experiance lack 'specialness'.

We had a great night in the pub along with locals in their gumboots. We ordered and ate in the pub part. Loved the interaction with the locals but also enjoyed the food from the 1860 restaurant. The pork belly was the best meal we...had on our two week road trip around the north islandMore

Second time to the restaurant. Both times we've been impressed with the friendly service and fantastic food. Have selected the 3 course meal and the 4 course meal, both with the accompanying wines. Such a good way to have dinner.

We picked this hotel on location it fitted perfectly within our trip plans. We were late getting there as the ferry was late into Wellington, but nothing was a problem .Lovely staff great service .On arrival we were asked if we would be dining in,...I queried closing time and was told they would be open until we had dined. Both ladies who were working that night couldn't have been more helpful. The pasta and fish dishes were superbly cooked and nicely presented on the plate. Upstairs to bed the old pub had many creaks and groans which added to the charm . Very comfortable bed ,we journeyed on the next day well fed and well slept. We are pleased we stopped at Greytown Hotel and will certainly do so again.More
