Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just moved into the 'hood and looking for takeout the night before Turkey Day. Read some of the reviews--typically all over the map. Solid Japanese/Chinese takeout. The Bento Box (shrimp) was outstanding. My wife ordered the crispy crab claws. Not sure why, but I thought...I'd be doing the "cracking thing" ala lobster like where we're from in New England. Instead, crab meat was removed from the claw, breaded, and deep fried. Excellent! The Yummy Sauce is indeed, yummy! The Jumbo Shrimp Hibachi was solid, with the friend rice definitely imbued with hibachi flavoring. Portions are large, so you'll have leftovers, for sure. Will definitely do take out at Mikada Express again.More

This place is like a junk drawer: you're in a small space wondering how that got there and why. There's a counter space with a couple of chairs, a tiny yard sale in the corner and snacks for sale on a table with a cushioned/taped...up corner, I'm assuming because it was sharp and people kept running into it. Also, like similar restaurants in the area, lots of homemade signs affixed to the walls and counters with Scotch tape. Plus a homemade open side out front. These quirky types of things bring me great joy and I was tempted to point to the yard sale and exclaim,"What's your best price for all of it?" I started with sushi: the simple salmon roll and something called a Boston roll, which I've never heard of. In case you're a person like myself who yearns for random knowledge that may only every help them on Jeopardy, here's the definition: A Boston roll is a simple Eastern United States adaption that pays respect to the Japanese roots and celebrates the Boston-style seafood. The substitution of imitation crabmeat with poached shrimp is also appealing to the farming enthusiasts who prefer using other seafood instead of endangered fish to create rolls. It had lettuce instead of avocado and something called "Japanese Mayo" which is essentially creamy, spicy mayo. It wasn't horrible, but I'd probably pass again. The salmon roll was moist and had flavor, so that was a win. Then I ordered (to go for later) the lo mein (just the noodles--I know it's impossible to believe, but I've never had lo mein), sesame chicken, avocado bubble tea, and tempura sweet potato, which I've never seen. The sesame chicken was subpar. The yellow/orange rice didn't have a decent texture or flavor. The lo mein was good, and I'm excited to try it again and a nice establishment. The tempura sweet potatoes weren't bad, but had only a mild flavor of sweet potato. The bubble tea was so bad I tasted it and threw it out. It was like you bought some cheap powder at a convenience store, mixed it with luke warm water, and served it with tapioca bubbles. The lady who worked there was nice, so I feel bad that I didn't have a better experience. Not horrible, but not an "I'll try it again" either.More

I can't write a proper review of Mikado Express since I only dined there once about four years ago right after they opened and just randomly happened to get some sushi for take-out tonight when my roommates decided to go there, but I will say...that I probably would not go there for sushi again when Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse, Kyoto Japanese Steak & Seafood House and Suzaku Cafe are equally close by. I am sure their Chinese specialties are much better, but I did not get any feedback from my roommates after they got back, tossed my sushi on the table and went into their room to scarf down whatever they ordered. We did use the convenient 10% off coupon on their website so the sushi was only $4.99 for the spicy scallop roll with avocado and $4.25 for the spicy white tuna roll with avocado for a total of $9.24 minus 10% equals $8.34 plus tax. I really couldn't tell these two apart except that I think the spicy scallop roll may have had cashews in them unless those were the scallops.More

Whenever my family want to order take-out food, it’s usually here because their prices are very reasonable. We usually order from the Dinner Specials which has a nice variety to choose from! I love that they serve Chinese and Japanese cuisine! My husband and daughter...loves the shrimp and broccoli special! I love the General Tso’s Chicken Special or the Shrimp Egg Foo Young! The appetizers and bubble tea are amazing and tasty! Although they stay really busy, there is always someone that answers the phone to take your order and your food is ready at the promised time always! The cooking area is very clean and they put your food in a bag warmer until you arrive so that it’s hot and ready!More

Often the best tasting Asian cuisine is compromised by a poor dining experience and this was definitely the case here. Positives: Food and service. Service: I was greeted with a smile and a nice welcome. The service was reasonably fast, polite and friendly. Food: I...ordered the Dragon Roll, Lobster roll and Thai bubble tea. -Rolls were made fresh and all ingredients were fresh and delicious. Above average. -Wasabi and ginger were fresh. Above average. -Bubble tea was made fresh and was top quality. Well above average. Negatives: Atmosphere and Dining experience Atmosphere: -First impression when entering was that it was a store that cooks food. There is a counter where the worker(s) stand surrounded by shelves of packaged food and beverage fridges. I had to ask if dine in was an option. -There are plastic curtains leading to a small dining room. The decor is old an lacks taste. The chairs have thin cushions and metal bars for the backs so are rather uncomfortable. -The washroom is all white which makes dirt marks visible all over the doors, walls and light switches. The toilet was fairly clean and sink was clean aside from a rust ring around the drain. Dining Experience -I was told I had to order at the front counter and pay before entering the dining area. Choosing a meal this way feels rushed. I was also bothered by the fact that I had to tip before even being served. -The food was brought out on styrofoam plates on a plastic tray. The presentation did not do the food quality any justice. -The children of the owners were running around and speaking loudly. This doesn't bother me but I'm sure it would bother some people. Overall the food was above average but dining experience was below average. Mind you, they do classify it as an 'Express' restaurant. It seems more catered to take out or business travellers like myself who are alone and in a rush.More

I think the Hibachi food was better than the Chinese food. There is a really good selection of all Chinese, Japanese and Hibachi foods.

I have not tried the Japanese food there. I mostly take out chinese. If you are looking for decent, cheap, quick americanized chinese food then this is for you.

Stay away. I decided on going here because the other sushi restaurants were too far from town. My mistake. This place is dirty, clustered with stacks of boxes and plastic bottles. It's the discount store of sushi restaurants and is such a bad representation of...the Japanese culture it's embarrassing. The lady behind the counter was abrupt to being rude. This is take-out although there were some very dirty tables near the bathroom. There was crap all over the counter: Slim Jim boxes, Cheeze Its, gum, candy.. I would list what i ordered but it doesn't matter, everything was tasteless, old, stale and even the wasabi had no taste. The only salvation was from packets (little plastic packets) of soy sauce. This is a horrible restaurant. Drive the extra few miles and go somewhere else.More
