A place for people who understand and LOVE Italian cooking!

Cibo delizioso!! I would never have expected to find such great, authentic Italian food in Front Royal, Virginia! I have lived and worked in Italy multiple times, and was a tour guide in the Veneto region. The food at Osteria 510 reflects the passion and care put into food in Italy. It is run by a husband and wife from Italy who are proud of their cuisine and who have worked hard to create an intimate "local" feel for their restaurant. No question, some dishes will appeal to you more than others, but the overall quality and authenticity make it worth making multiple trips to find what you really love. If you are unhappy with something, talk to Vincenzo (who is probably serving you) and explain why the dish falls short of what you desire. He and his wife will then "make it right" for you. Don't wait until after dinner and whine online. You and your readers will miss out on some great food :)

Our favorite pre Skyline Drive ride...and post

Vincenzo is an active engaged owner with authentic Italian heritage and it shows in the experience. Come with a fun attitude and an appreciation for a boutique restaurant experience. Our Hudson Velo bicycle club has dined there on 4 occasions and have never been disappointed. Even during COVID, Osteria 510 found a way to accommodate our large group. Just the owner managed to take our orders, recommend appetizers that perfectly fit the needs of the table. He then managed to deliver 11 entrees alone to the table with in 90 seconds of each other. We enjoyed two very nice bottles of Italian wine and left very satisfied with a guarantee of a return in the fall, just not when the leafers are there. Make a reservation and enjoy the experience.

Excellent meal and service

As those who know this location know that the ownership changes hands when the former owner returned to Italy. The new owners (a mother and son combo) offer a high quality menu second only to the great tastes offered by the chef (the son) and the personable attention provided to us (his mother and the service staff). Good menu choices and deserts are essential. This restaurant is now on our regular monthly list of places to dine.

A delight, and open during pandemic!

This restaurant is indeed a gem. The food is delicious and authentic, the service was gracious and polite. Two of us had dinner mid week. The restaurant sadly had very few patrons. We ate inside and there were only two other tables in use during our dinner. Social distancing was quite easy. The menu was on a chalkboard making it contactless. Our waiter wore a mask. Now for the good stuff: We had a mozzarella and tomato salad and the basil and pesto and olive oil were delicious and refreshing. One of us had rigatoni and boar sausage and the other had angel hair pasta and spicy shrimp, both dishes were wonderful. The Limoncello torte for dessert was to die for, light and lemony and not too much sugar. I felt like I was eating in Italy. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a wonderful Italian meal at Osteria.

Although this is one of the better restaurants in the area it didn't live up to some of the hype surrounding it. Made a reservation for dinner and on arrival we were left standing in the entry for almost 10 minutes, hardly being acknowledged. Ordered wine and dinner and waited approx 20 min before dinner came, accompanied finally by bread and oil which would have been nice to have while we were waiting. Hubby's seafood stew was nice although somewhat small in size. My chicken parmigiana, on the other hand, was huge, accompanied by pasta, but room temperature. I asked if they could "zap" it to heat it up and was told they didn't have a microwave, but would put it in the oven. Ten minutes later I got it back and it was a good temp. Tiramisu for dessert was shared. It was also huge and looked great but was lacking in flavor. With a dearth of good restaurants in the area I wouldn't steer you away from this one but just don't go in with extremely high hopes.

Authentic, First rate,

I’ll start by saying I went to cooking school in Italy. I spent quite a lot of time there sampling foods from the different regions. Service in Italy is different than service in America. Being that the owner is actually FROM Italy, that authenticity will be apparent in his restaurant. I welcomed it! I found Osteria’s food to be fresh, clean flavors and absolutely remarkable....served in true Italian style! I found portions to be substantial, delicious and quite satisfying! They even made a dish for me that wasn’t on the menu! The owner also was very patient with my speaking broken Italian! I haven’t been since CoVid, but I intend to go soon!

Wonderful, flavorful, authentic,

Wonderful, flavorful, authentic, Italian cuisine. This place is a gem. We discovered this place while on a motorcycle trip & were thrilled with our choice & the selections. We had the meatball & eggplant appetizers, & dived into several pasta dishes, all of which were delicious. For dessert, we had coffee, latte, chocolate mousse cake & tiramisu. We stopped in on a Friday night and were surprised that there weren’t more people there. The owner was very attentive & nice. If we lived locally, we would be at Osteria 510 weekly; you should be there, too.

New ownership!

First of all, I would like to mention that this restaurant is under brand new ownership, so outdated negative reviews should be ignored! I enjoyed the restaurant before, mainly because I liked the owner, but the new owner/chef is putting out incredibly better food. All pasta except the spaghetti is homemade, which is a change from the previous owner. It is one of my regular places to eat in Front Royal, and I can't recommend it highly enough! The waitstaff is incredibly friendly as well! During busy times, be sure to make a reservation because they are very popular with the locals.

Going downhill

Reading other reviews, I think people must have been to a different restaurant. I used to love going to Osterio 510 under the previous ownership: the food was authentic and the menu as varied. there were also specials on most days, depending on what was in season. I went last night, with friends, and I was hugely disappointed. The food was longer Italian but an Americanized version (they serve spaghetti with meatballs) and the meatballs are now huge, not Italian-sized polpette. The pasta dish I had was awash with tomato sauce, again, an American idea, not Italian. They have also expanded the pizza selection (after installing a new oven) so it is now more of a pizza house than a restaurant. It is sad to see what used to be a really good restaurant reduced to a Pizza Hut.

Amazing food...One of the best meals of my life

My husband and I had visited the Italian restaurant that used to be in this same location and it was not very good. The new owner apparently took over a few months ago. He was a chef at the Inn at Little Washington. His background is Italian; I started with Oysters Florentine and they were large and delicious;l But the entree went way beyond: braised beef ravioli with a brown butter sauce. Sublime! The tiramisu I had for dessert was outstanding. My husband had the cheese platter and was totally wowed by the pecorino romano with truffles. His dessert was an amazing ice cream with light licorice and coffee flavoring. I can't wait to go back again!

New and better than ever

This little restaurant has been known for Italian food. The new owners are keeping that tradition alive in a nice way. We tried it for dinner and were pleased with everything we ordered. The cured meat board and Focaccia could be a meal by themselves. The Lasagna tasted fresh and loaded with flavor. It was light and delicate, no knife needed. The Pizza Maria came on a crust that was crispy on the bottom with just enough char around the edges and then the toppings. A nice combination of ricotta, mozzarella, parmigiano, arugula, and prosciutto. Did I mention the prosciutto, there was a mound of it covering all that cheese. Prices were reasonable, actually on the low end for food this good. We will be back.

You Can’t Go Wrong!

Homemade pasta…wood fired pizza…grilled octopus…we tried a wide selection of the menu on a recent date night with friends. The octopus was perfection, and everything else was great, too. This is a family business and you can feel (and taste!) the love. Don’t miss this gem in Front Royal- make reservations for sure—it’s a cozy place, and can fill up quickly.

AMAZING Pasta and Phenomenal Service

Osteria Maria was recommended by several of the local wineries and we are SO glad we took their advice!!! We arrived for an early dinner due to other plans and glad we did. By the time we left it was full. The food was absolutely AMAZING and the service was impeccable! My wife and I both had the special; brisket ravioli with a parmesan cream sauce. Hands down one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had. The tiramisu was to die for. I cannot recommend this place enough!!! If you’re in Front Royal this is a MUST stop!!!

The taste is real.

Almost don't want to give a good review on this little gem. I want to keep it a secret so we can always get a table. Small tidy dining room and a bar. The menu covers all of Italy. Dishes you could find in Tyrol or Trapani. Some of the help is young, but the server is a professional, attentive but not intrusive. Helpful with menu suggestions and friendly. The food is the star of the show. It would be hard to pick a favorite, but every meal should start with the Salumi board. We will be back and hope to get a table. Side note they do take reservations.

Fun evening!

We attended the Opera & Dinner on August 27, 2024. The food was amazing and the talented opera singers made the evening very special. One recommendation - serve bread or at least bread sticks. It just felt like something was missing.
