My son and I stopped here a few weeks ago. I had heard they had the best burgers in the Shenandoah Valley, but I was skeptical, as I've had some good ones around Harrisonburg and Staunton. First, was a bit disappointed when we pulled up and found out it was fast food, not table service. We ordered our meals, got combo meals, and liked the full customization of toppings available at no extra cost. We got doubles, as the photos made them look small. We were wrong, the burgers were VERY big, our burgers were hard to finish. What can I say, actually lived up to the HYPE. Probably the best burger I've had in 20 years, and I've travelled all around the country and to 50 other countries in the last 20 years! Very tasty, hand formed, with homemade buns, or at least local. Also, the fries were amazing too, what a 1-2 punch. Fries were as good, if not better than Five Guys. Plus the combo prices were very reasonable form $6 to less than $8. Then we tried the custard, also amazing. This is a new favorite place, we'll have to bring the entire family, too bad we live an hour away! Truly a wonderful place. Please open another Spelunker's near Harrisonburg!

I'd been looking forward to Spelunkers ever since my brother described how juicy the burgers are. I order a burger only a few times a year, so it's got to be really great. I ordered the plain Cavern burger and loved it. Very juicy, cooked to order, delicious bun. Had some of my brother's fries; they were hot and fresh It's been years since I've had frozen custard, and so glad I got the smallest burger. Flavor of the day was butter pecan - absolutely delicious, and the small size (about 4 oz) was just enough. The counter service is very friendly. Tables were very clean. Saw lots of local tradesmen there, and my brother said it is very popular with the nearby high school families. Spelunkers will satisfy your burger craving. I will definitely recommend it to the rest of my family when they visit Front Royal.

Stopped here for lunch on the way back to MD after a few days in the Shenandoah. It was so crowded all the indoor & outdoor tables were taken, & parking lot full, that we just went thru the drive thru & ate in a nearby parking lot. A notch above usual chain fast food fare.

After reading some reviews for Spelunkers, I decided to give it a go. That was a good decision! We had the bacon cheeseburger and it was fantastic. It literally dripped with juicy goodness and tasted great. Each burger is made as it ordered, so it takes a little time but the wait is well worth it.

We searched online and found this place. So glad we did! The hand dipped chicken strips were very juicy and flavorful. The Philly cheese steak sub was also delicious. Prices were very reasonable. We will def be back when we're in the area.

First off, I should mention that the menu at Spelunker's is quite limited. This is more than offset by the quality of the hamburgers that sell, which are large and juicy and distinctly fairly priced. The onion rings were very good as well. The frozen custard was nothing special and we would probably skip it if were dined there again.

After driving out to the country for a round of golf, we drove into the town of Front Royal for a quick drive through lunch at Spelunker's. We had just read an article on Spelunker's in the Washington Post, giving a thumb's up to the hamburger joint in the Shenandoah valley. They specialize in burgers and frozen custard. We ordered the cavern burger (cave) with fries and onion rings. The combo special. The burgers were as good as any we have ever eaten, and I think the fresh meat patties were the big difference maker. I thought the fries and onion rings were just OK but the taste of the cheeseburger was worth the visit. I only wish we had room for the frozen custard. Highly recommend

Came here due to high reviews. The custard was fresh. Hire mostly young student staffs which is great to see earning honest living at a young age, a huge plus. Burger size was big and hearty, and well priced even after adding crispy bacons. If you are looking for high end interior, this is not nor modern. One shouldn’t expect that near pristine National Park. Hit the spot with solid burgers. But don’t expect gourmet.

Cannot comment on the burgers but the ice cream was mediocre. I got chocolate, the wife got vanilla. It was a hot day but the ice cream should not melt that fast in my opinion. As for flavor, chocolate was ho hum and wife says the vanilla was too sweet. It is worth going to Carl's in Fredericksburg even if a longer drive.

After driving by this place many times over the years while visiting Front Royal and also after hearing soooo much on social media about how amazing the burgers (and most recently chicken sandwich and cheesesteak) were, we finally stopped in recently. We got there on a Monday at 1:30PM and they were still quite busy. The young girl who took our order was far from friendly, but she was effective. The food takes a while to prepare their food, which we can appreciate (as it’s all made-to-order), but this also explains why there were so many cars waiting on the exit side of the drive-thru for their orders. Our food took about 15 minutes to come to the table and it was really good! The fries were amazing! The burger was pretty good, far from the best I’ve had, but still done nicely. The meat was cooked perfectly, was tender and tasty. The topping were decent, not enough condiments, but good and the bun was fresh and tasty. The place was clean and was even being cleaned while we were there dining. Prices are decent. Parking was tough, but I made it work. Overall, I’d return. Definitely try something else next time.

We went out of our way because our son told us how good it was. He was right! We got Carvern burgers served all different ways, and they were perfect. Fries were very good. I would recommend ordering your frozen custard after you start eating instead of with your burger. It was like soft serve ice cream and the waffle cones were made fresh and were yummy!. They delivered your order to your table which was nice. The staff were very friendly. The cost is between McDonalds and 5 guys, but better than all of them.

Their burgers and frozen yogurt was very good, but being a lover of heat in a meal , I unfortunately ordered a chicken sandwich. I can handle Tai food and the hottest hot wings, but their chicken was basically coated in dry Cayenne pepper. Not flavorful and very unpleasant - I was hoping for something with ghost pepper or similar hot sauce - not a dry rub of red pepper.

This local burger joint in Front Royal is amazing. Local ingredients and a menu that is not over complicated definitely seems to be the secret. The burger i had was simply outstanding - juicy, flavorful, and reasonably priced. you really can’t beat it - highly recommend!!

After placing our order, it was a long wait with cars parked out in front of us and behind us waiting for someone to bring our order to our car. We had been hiped up by a neighbor on how delicious it was, a must go to place, etc, however when we got there it was like "really?". The soda/tea was flat and no real taste. Our burgers were just ok, have certainly had beter. The fries looked extra well done so very disappointed. As a first time (and last) visitor, our hopes were certainly dashed on this one. Now what we had envisioned it would be and sorry we didn't go on down the street to a burger chain. Disappointed.
