Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great pastries and bar b que. All kinds of gifts, yard decor and great assortment of European Christmas decorations year round. Have never bought any of the plentiful smoked sausages, meats and cheeses , but hope to soon. Lots more charm that the national travel...stop chain with almost as much variety.More

Awesome food! Great place to stop and grab food to go. We stopped there at night and then again when we were heading home, because it was sooo good!

Stopped in traveling. Interesting Bucket List Place. Expected to sit at a table, but you order and pick up and find a place to sit inside or out or to-go. BBQ sandwich was pricey - but delicious! Would go back! The bakery looks fantastic, but...we passed.More

We went to a dance in Lagrange, TX and the halfway mark was in West, TX. We stopped at Slovacek's for lunch, since we've seen it on The Texas Bucket List TV show. What a fun place! They have a full bakery section with numerous,...reasonably priced kolaches (fruit and sausage), a hot food section with brisket, sausage, turkey, etc. you can buy by the pound, platter, or sandwich, with sides. Like Bucees, they have clean bathrooms, lots of gas lames. drink stations, home made breads and jellies to buy, and fun tee shirt and accessory items. The garden decor items are also plentiful and there's a separate Christmas store. We liked the beer bread sandwich with cheese and 3 large sausage links cut in half, so you can get your mouth around the sandwich. On our way home, we picked up to small link kolaches to eat in the car, and a half dozen fruit ones to take home. Prices on the food were very reasonable (fruti or cream cheese kolaches, $1.89, and smal link kolaches $1.89). On Sunday early afternoon the line was wrapped around the store for the bakery BUT, they have plenty of folks working and you can pay at any register. We knew what we wanted and were out of there in 10 minutes! Worth the trip!More

I'm eastern European heritage and have heard that TX Kolaches are not like our small, dainty kolacky pastries (dough filled with fruit fillings) but we still wanted to experience. Saw signs on highway and decided to make a quick side-trip off the highway - convenient...it was lunchtime. This place has a regular meat counter (raw meats) plus sausages, cheeses, etc. You can also get BBQ plates or kolaches - both meat and fruit. The brisket kolache was a great lunch. The fruit kolaches are good as well. Neat place to stop and shop. Lot's of Christmas decor - don't know if it is there year round or just cause it was January. However, they do have a Christmas store across the parking lot, it's new, but we didn't stop.More

Stopped on our way back from Dallas to San Antonio. Omgosh! We had the strawberry cinnamon roll, the apple and peach with cream cheese kolaches, and finally the brisket koloches, Heaven!

When we visit this place, there was a BBQ spot in there. I've been everywhere and this BBQ is absolutely the best in the country. Don't believe me, try it.

We stopped on our way to Temple from the Dallas area. We both ordered the chopped beef sandwich. I must say, I was very disappointed. The sandwiches were $8.00 apiece and the buns were huge, however the meat was a small dollop in the middle....even when they pressed the two halves together the meat didn't come close to the sides. 1/4 meat and 3/4 bun. I asked the cashier is that all the meat and his response was "times are tough".......don't expect the loaded meat that is in the picture! I will never be back.More

This is a great place to stop for gas between Waco and DFW. Lots of pumps and parking. The bakery items are all very good, but often the line is long. Excellent fudge too (buy 2 get one free!). Clean bathrooms. Also a great dog...park (even by gas station standards).More

As some in Texas would say, this will knock your hat in the creek. Their bakery offers unlimited greatness - period. All employees were friendly and efficient. Be forewarned that you’ll probably spend some time wanderiythrough aisles and aisles of unique and at times comical...merchandise.More

I think this place might be overrated. We got a half dozen fruit kolaches in a variety of flavors. While they were good, nothing spectacular. The bun itself don’t have a lot of flavor. The fillings on each were good but again not overwhelmingly amazing....I also got a cinnamon roll which was good. Heavy on the cinnamon which I like. The store itself has a meat market, a shop with all types of souvenirs and drinks/coffee. All in all not upset we stopped but in my opinion not the best in TexasMore

This place is huge! Tons of gas pumps, a huge gift shop, and kolaches as far as the eye can see. Lots of wait staff to help. We were a bit overwhelmed by the choices they had. We wanted one of everything. In our opinion,...we still think the guys across the street are better, but Slovacek's is holding their own.More

This had been a great place for a stop on road trips, we would often spend $30-$50 on food, but we will never stop nor spend a dime there again. An employee (an older man, walking around with a stack of masks) didn’t want to...hear our son trying to explain his medical exemption from a mask and rudely told him to get out. That was in front of about 20 customers standing in line to buy kolaches. When we flatly asked why he had been so rude to a kid, the man snapped back, “if you don’t like it, get out.” Am sure all the other places along 35 will benefit from their abrasive treatment of customers. Masks or not, we will never stop there again.More
