Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very tasty bbq. Great service, nice ambiance. Felt very welcomed and the folks were so nice and mannerly. Worth the drive out from Waco proper.

I cannot stress enough how much of a terrible experience we had. Hot drinks, cold meat. Waited an hour and a half for the worst BBQ I've ever had. I left wondering what could possibly take so long. Surely the brisket was already cooked considering...it takes half a day to make. So it took an hour to scoop us some beans, or what? Will never return to this cult like weird place. I should have just gotten my money back and went to McDonald's.More

Had lunch here. Small eating area, but delicious food. Melt in your mouth brisket! Located on Homestead area which is very interesting place with weaving, pottery, blacksmith, wood working demonstrations and a old grist mill.

We made a special trip to the Homestead just for the BBQ. It was a cold, rainy day and we were the only customers when we got there. One of us got a mixed plate and the other a chopped sandwich. Both were OK but...neither of us thought it was any better than what we can get in town. If I was already out there for something else, I would try it again but would not make the trip back out there just for the BBQ.More

You are not going to believe how great this brisket is. We just happened to find it passing thru Waco and got so lucky. It is “ melt in your mouth” delicious and the sides are great too. Even our vegan crowd tried some and...agreed. So good!More

Yummy little spot to score some BBQ. We opted for take-out and they were great about putting the bun in a different container. The sides are wonderful (although they forgot two of our sides). Meat was very tender and sauce was good, does have a...little vinegar style to it.More

Our bus tour pulled into The Homestead in Waco, Texas. We went to the restaurant down the road and to our surprise the wait was about 1 hour. There were 39 people on our bus, so waiting an hour or better was not possible. The...bus driver remembered there was a small restaurant as we turned into The Homestead. 22 of us hopped on the bus and he took us there. To our surprise (and TO the owner of the restaurants surprise) we started walking towards the restaurant. It is a very small place and the owner was there alone. I can't imagine what was going through his head as 22 of us came walking in. He immediately picked up his phone and 7 minutes later his wife appeared. To our surprise.....it was the best meal we had in Waco, Texas. Most of us ordered the "Haystack". It was the best BBQ sandwich ever. He served all of us and when he was done with all the orders we gave him a standing ovation. DO NOT MISS THIS RESTAURANT.....EXCELLENT FOOD AND A LOT OF CHOICES. Thanks for a great time at the Red Wagon BBQ,,More

I love the BBQ at the Red Wagon. You can even buy their chicken and brisket in the Homestead Market if you crave it during the week if they are not open. I always keep their half chicken on hand for the last minute dinner...or on top of saladMore

Red Wagon easily has the best brisket in the Waco area, and compares with the top brisket joints in the state. My wife and I stop by a few times per month and it is consistently delicious. Nothing else comes close in the Waco area.

The haystack BBQ sandwich was awesome and along with homemade potato salad, made for a fantastic lunch. Very lean, juicy meat and zesty sauce. Seating is in a screened in area so get the outdoors feel without the sun or mosquitos.
