Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A restaurant which suited everybody in the party aged from 8 to 76. Wide choice of food for each course all well cooked and tasty. Owner/chef extremely pleasant and helpful. Particularly enjoyable were the meat ,vegetable and fish pâtés as starters, the meat stews and the chocolate desserts.. Service was prompt efficient and pleasant. Overall a very good experience. Does not take credit cards.

Amazing dining experience. Everything was fabulous, and we ended up dining here twice. We noticed a lot of return customers doing the same! The restaurant itself is cosy, warm and dining here is like eating a meal at somebody’s house (which it effectively is). The food is absolutely gorgeous, with an extensive menu and specials changing daily. What really makes this place though, is the enthusiastic, friendly and charismatic owner/chef, which means that not only do you get a delightful three course dinner at a very reasonable price, but you are entertained throughout! Note that you need to reserve a table and that credit cards are not accepted.

Fantastic experience and great food. The host is a real character, very welcoming, very charming. And a unique, truly unique across all the restaurants I have ever visited, is they serve samples of the main courses so you can make your decision based on actually trying the dish. It doesn't necessarily make the choice easier, as all the dishes were great. Just go, you won't regret it.

Jack and his team run a superb restaurant in Villeneuve. The food is of a rustic home made style and of the highest quality. Also really good value for money compared to so many other places in the valley. They have also introduced more vegetarian dishes recently and started to use in-season produce from their own garden. A visit is highly recommended but bookings are absolutely essential for one for the two dinner sittings each evening.

We had an absolutely fantastic dinner at Marotte. The food is sourced fresh from the garden, which makes it flavorful, healthy, and reminiscent of the meals my grandparents used to cook. The cozy and intimate setting of the restaurant made us feel warmly welcomed. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind, ensuring that our dining experience was truly exceptional. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed by Marotte and will definitely be returning next year!

We have visited here many times before under the previous owner and have never had a bad word to say. This visit however was rather disappointing. The hosts were as welcoming as ever and we all enjoyed our starters, but the mains left a lot to be desired. Two of us had the chicken in tarragon sauce, and the chicken was so overcooked and dry it was almost inedible. One of the beef cheek dishes had as much gristle as meat, and the apple crumble desert had very little apple to speak of. At 9.20, when our coffee arrived, we were told that we only had 5 minutes to finish before the next sitting. To then have the people hovering over us, waiting to jump into our warm seats while we hurriedly finished our coffee, (no time for one of our party to finish her wine) was regrettable. Be advised it is a cash or cheque payment only establishment also. This experience has probably knocked this restaurant off of the list of go to restaurants when we revisit to this lovely ski resort next.

I was fortunate enough to visit Marotte three times during my visit to the valley, each time I had a magnificent evening, the food was exceptional. I love the fireplace, which adds to the ambience. The food is fresh, locally sourced and full of flavour, many of the vegetables are from the restaurant’s garden. Marotte has a great traditional menu, whilst also providing vegan options as well. The staff at Marotte are incredibly friendly and accommodating. The owner's passion for the food can be seen very clearly which results in meals of the highest quality at affordable prices. It's my favourite restaurant in Serre Chevalier, I can’t wait to return.

Best of all restaurants of Serre Chevalier vallée! Very special experience with fresh and delicious food, I'm returning to have a diner at La Marotte every time when people come to visit. I mean : 3 or even 4 times per season! The choice of starters and desserts is just exquisite, and main dishes are always tasty and nicely served. There are also vege options since they changed the owner. Staff is friendly and you can see them working if you re seated in the mai room - the kitchen is open, there is also a fire place:) Cannot wait to be back (chocolate-caramel cake is my very fav'!)

The Marotte simply gets better and better!!! New and exciting vegetarian dishes complete the traditional signiture menu incorporating more local and organic products. The atmosphere is as convivial as always and the new young management guarantee a memorable experience ..... not to be missed when visiting the 'valley'. Book in advance to be sure to get a reservation! You will be welcomed in English ... et en Français! A ne pas manquer! Bon appétit

We spend holidays in summer and winter very regularly at the Salle Les Alpes. We tried this restaurant quite by chance. It is a very small, very family-run establishment with a very friendly welcome, you are immediately put at ease. The menu is very simple as are the dishes there is no fuss about particularly sophisticated cuisine. Don't look for dishes with a gastronomic presentation, that's not the topic of the day. But the apparent simplicity of the dishes totally contrasts with the flavor. Everything is excellent. I particularly recommend the terrines offered as starters, particularly the snail terrine if you like that. The desserts are like the rest of the meal, they are served with a little bit of quality crème fraîche and frankly it tastes just as good as a scoop of ice cream. Bravo for your work and your welcome I will come back to introduce this restaurant to my wife.

A real gastronomic address is not so common in the resort and especially at these prices. Menu at €33 and some with starter, main course and dessert. Lots of original proposals and two very small rooms where all the stables eat a little with the others. Reservation essential. The only downside can be the wine, only by the pitcher, even if it's not bad. Thank you and see you soon.

The whole dining experience was fantastic from start to finish. We had a great table near the fire, the service was exceptional and the food arrived in excellent time. This was overshadowed by the fantastic menu that was full of beautiful flavours from around the world. There were so many specialities to choose from we all had excellent choice to suit our individual tastes. Everything was well made and totally delicious. We found that the three course meal was excellent value and we all left wanting to return. You must go and experience for yourself.

I really hate going out for meals in France. It is so difficult to get vegan food, or even to explain the concept. I had resigned myself to eating salad and chips for the week. La Marotte is a delightful restaurant, with an interesting menu of beautifully prepared dishes, and kind staff. I had French onion soup, Senegalese peanut curry, and chocolate orange mousse, all plant-based. We were a table of 11 in a full restaurant. Great job, Guys! Merci beaucoup. A bientôt!

Love everything about this restaurant, the ambiance is welcoming, the staff are attentive, and the food is beautifully served and of a very high quality. It's clear that the menu, presentation, and ingredients have been well considered. Original flavour and well sourced, conscious ingredients. Favourite restaurant in the valley by a long way.

It is a very small place and for this reason it is often difficult to make a reservation. The main characteristic is the care in choosing the raw materials, which are prepared with care, but in a simple way. There is a menu with appetizer (which in the Italian menu is indicated with "first courses", don't be fooled!), main course and dessert, which I would recommend. The choice is very wide and the foods are all freshly prepared. The portions are not excessive, fortunately, and even those who are not particularly voracious manage to leave nothing on their plate (which would be a real shame). The choice of wines and beers is not very wide, but of good quality. The price is adequate for the quality. Attention: they only accept cash for payment.
