Dropped in late at 3pm just before they closed. Had a quick coffee and cake. Amazing coffee, better than most places in Melbourne. I had a lamington which was vegan and gluten free. The apple, cinnamon and almond cake (I’m told) was delicious. Customer service...is 10/10. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable. Will definitely come back for lunch. Can’t wait !!More
Stopped in for Sunday breakfast & we’re lucky to get a table for 4. Lots of table turnovers. Nice menu with plenty of options. Friendly staff & good coffee
Had lunch here twice on a recent visit to Woodend. Central location, popular and inviting. Interesting French style menu and great cakes cabinet. Gluten free options. Friendly and quick service. Enjoyable food and coffee at a reasonable price. Our go to place for lunch in...Woodend.More
I stopped there with a friend during a day out, in the beautiful region of Macedon Ranges. The day was cold but the food was very hearty, people very welcoming and serving very good portions. French cafe with a nice fireplace and nice atmosphere. You...can also taste wines of the region. This is a must when you stop at Woodend.More
A beautiful, friendly, inviting cafe. The offerings are influenced by French cuisine, country style cooking. Husband and wife team Thierry and Sue are the greatest hosts. Sue is a welcoming presence at front of house, while Thierry mans the kitchen and cooks delightful treats, wonderful...breakfasts, lovely lunches and decadent cakes. Perfect poached eggs and the Choc Raspberry cake and house made choc coated freeze dried strawberries are well worth dropping in for a visit! Coffee is always consistently produced by their barrister Michael. No better cafe in Woodend! My go to place in Woodend.More
Driving from Melbourne this cafe sounded like the place for us for brunch. The beautiful old building was bustling and we were greeted by the owner and a waitress straight away. The pies and treats on display all looked so appealing. We ordered a fresh...juice which was yum and a long black. I’m such a coffee snob and this was the best coffee I’d had in ages. We also has the chili scrambled eggs, adding prosciutto and my fiancé had the poached eggs with homemade baked beans and chorizo. The only complaint is more chorizo would be fabulous! It was all so flavorsome and fresh. We loved the multigrain bread too. Thank you for the lovely experience as we don’t go out for brunch often. You can even reserve a table which is wonderful! You could tell by all the locals that this is a loved place to frequent and pick up yummy take away pastries.More
I rarely write a negative review on Trip Advisor, however on this occasion I felt the need. We had booked a table for lunch. Upon entering the front door, there was the usual QR code check in information, plus a sign stating that the restaurant...only accepted vaccinated patrons and that proof of vaccination was required. We were greeted and led to a table near the front window. The patrons were sitting very close together and I asked whether we could sit at a table that had further distancing. I was led to the back of the restaurant and told that we could sit at one of three tables (which had bench seating running along the back wall for all three tables). I asked whether the tables next to us would remain vacant for social distancing. I was advised that it could not be guaranteed and depended on whether people turned up or not, but that was the only other option in the restaurant. We sat down and within 10 minutes we had people sitting at the tables on either side of us. I would guess that there would have been approximately 1 metre between each table. I started to feel very uncomfortable as the patron next to me was coughing and masks were removed for ordering/eating. I asked if we could be moved to the front of the shop whereby people had left and there were tables that were further spaced between patrons. The staff member was hesitant and said that the tables were really for 4 people and we were a table of 2 and there could be a chance that a table of 4 patrons "may" arrive (but there were no bookings). She hummed and hawed and then agreed. We sat at the table which had better social distancing, Our vaccination status was never checked whist in the restaurant, nor was any other patrons' status when they walked through the door whilst we were in the restaurant. Further, the restaurant was hot, the cooling was struggling to cope and the one patron toilet was not clean (one toilet shared by males and females). I also did not like the fact that you had to enter the kitchen area to access the toilet. I ordered a breakfast style meal with egg, hollandaise sauce with caramelized onions and bacon. It was a nice meal and cooked well.... but it was all overshadowed by the unsafe and uncomfortable experience I had in the restaurant and wouldn't return again on this basis.More
Please note that when you came to Paysanne it was the first time in 2 years that our density limits had been completely removed by the Victorian Government, so we did not have to space our tables 1.5m apart. Our industry has been decimated but...More
Didn't disapoint. Went for breakfast after reading reviews and was very happy with service and food. Ordered non standard breakfast without any problems. Judging from reservations on all tables would recommend booking for brunch/lunch.
Warm cosy atmosphere with real home style food. The owners are friendly and hospitable. Paysanne literally means "country-style" which matches the laid back approach to genuine, hearty and classic French-inspired home cooking. Everything is made from scratch, including stocks and delicious sauces.
We enjoyed scrambled chilli eggs and poached eggs with bacon, tomato and mushrooms with our morning coffees. Food was great and service was super friendly. Happy to visit again next time we're in Woodend.
Really honest food that caters for vegans/vegetarians (I'm neither of these) and everyone else. Delicious and would recommend above all other cafes in Woodend. A great place for a coffee/morning tea or lunch with friends and a very good source for catering for takeaway that...you can offer friends with dietary requirements. My go to place.More
Really great Breakfast menu (not all day) but there is then a brunch lunch menu which is awesome. Ate here twice last weekend. Once for breakfast, then for lunch the next day.
This was a surprise. The food range was very wide with a distinctive French influence and some classics served with generous quanty. Service was friendly and prompt even during a busy lunchtime. It's nice to have a glass of wine from a useful wine list.
Had breakfast, and coffee here this morning. Lovely clean place, with a well stoked fire. Food was fresh, simple, and tasty. Coffee was super hot, which I like.
