Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Java Cabana can only be described as “Funky.” It’s a cool little spot in the Cooper-Young district that is good for hanging out and relaxing over a cool drink or a cup of coffee and a cookie. There’s not much to say about the drinks...themselves, they’re good, but no better or worse than those you’d find at any other local spot (but certainly better than a corporate chain like Starbucks), but the eclectic ambiance is fun. Be sure to check out the thrift shop in the back!More

I went to school in Austin, Texas, and my husband and I always joke that I end up finding the “Austin” part of whatever city we go to - Cooper Young is definitely that, and Java Cabana is the best part of it. Comfortable, eclectic,...inexpensive and welcoming. I got chai tea and my husband got an old-fashioned soda, and it was honestly the highlight of our visit to Memphis. Any time we get back to Tennessee, I will be making the effort to come see Java Cabana again.More

Refreshing coffee shop not like any Starbucks. Warm and relaxing, actually a little quirky. Wife and I stopped in for a great cup of coffee and snack. Service was friendly and welcoming.

Right in the middle of Cooper Union is one of the undiscovered gems of Memphis; This beautiful, friendly, fun, off-beat and fabulously kitchy coffeeshop has everything most mainstream coffeeshops lack - but I can't give it all away - you gotta get over there to...be wow'd!!!!More

Stopped in here for a short break, and really enjoyed ourselves. Got in a game of chess, had some great coffee and lemon bars, and got to chat with the staff who are all very friendly. Great place for coffee!

I ordered a macchiato and started to look around. This little place should be located in Portland:) It has a great atmosphere and for those with ADD, this is your home. My macchiato was a bit over steamed. I give the pull a 7.5. The...roast is a bit darker than I appreciate. Please adjust your steamer.More

Great fresh coffee! Owner is one of the baristas and made us some amazing coffee. Some interesting speciality coffees on the menu we will try next time we are in town, like the Sweet Jane...caramel and coffee combo looked yummy. The winning surprise for me...was the gluten free blueberry muffin. They are homemade, normal size muffins, but they have a very moist, almost undercooked center. I have NEVER had a GF muffin that moist and tasty. Wonderful place!More

Excellent coffee and welcome, lovely people and vibe - cool tees too! Thanks again for a proper coffee! This place is the best for a good, European style coffee in Memphis, that we found - and God knows we tried!

A fun eclectic coffee house that's the cure for corporate coffee chains. The furniture and decor is colorful yet fitting. Warm and friendly service. A must-see in Memphis.

Just looking around the shop was enough entertainment for my husband and me. From a cute vinyl record and book collection to posters of upcoming local concerts, this place is fun and completely connected to the cool community it resides in. I got the funky...monkey latte and was not disappointed. It had great flavor without being overly sweet, and the girl that served us was adorable and fun to talk to. Overall, great stop for coffee and conversation.More

I dropped in here to get a latte. The only weird thing was that they didn't have skim milk, just 2% and almond milk. I don't know if they were out at the time or if that is a regular thing. The coffee was good...and reasonably priced.More
