Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to Memphis, TN for some seafood and fresh Crawfish, man did we find the right place. Look at their website for current specials, 4 lbs for $20. I did order 3 lbs at $ 8.95 lb went to sit down and wait for order to be ready and some real nice people said to me "Did you get the special?" Already paid, so I said no I'll get the special next. My spouse and I love mudbugs and they did them right. Fresh and boiled perfectly, with corn & red potatoes (just a few) ask for seasoning on the side, they give you as much as you want or need. I did encounter a new employee at the register when I ordered the special I asked her " Why didn't you tell me about the Special?" Her answer was you never asked. Glad I didn't tip her, usually I wait until I have eaten and see how the service and food is when paying up front. Megan saved the day, and Francisco took care of us from then on and saved the day! Will go back tonight as the special is still on according to their website. Definitely recommend this place as it's clean and just ask for Megan you'll be taken care of. Naturally I tipped both her and Francisco.

Don't be put off by the cafe style decor, or having to order at the counter. The fish/ seafood served here is excellent and plentiful and the place is always busy with locals which as always a good sign. Read the menu and decide what you want before stepping up to be served or you will find a very long queue behind you. Another great find if you want local grub.

My family and I went April 7 we ordered what we usually order grilled trout ❤, grilled salmon❤ and fish tacos❤, they include grilled vegetables and what you would call a bean rice mix. Now to be clear we been eating here for years, I've left reviews about the Flying Fish before which were great 4+. But they've done something the bean rice mix recipe (whatever they call it) my wife was the first to notice the change. She first thought that it was Rancid. They're putting so much beer in it that it tastes like bottom of the trash can old dark beer, when I inquired at the counter the guy was a little smug and said they "haven't changed anything" and "that the guy that makes it has been there since the restaurant opened" well that's all well and good BUT, it's a good idea every now and then as a restaurant to sample your own food ! It did not taste right it's way too old beer tasting and they have more or less ruined what used to be consistently great.

We hadn't planned on what or where we were going to eat this particular evening in October 2019 and we had walked past Flying Fish a couple of times so we opted to give it a try. It wasn't busy but they have it set up where you queue up and order at the counter. We went with a 4 shrimp, 2 catfish combo basket and a starter of crispy (fried) calamari. While waiting for the food you notice the interior is bright and filled with a sea motif. There are tables and banquettes. You get your own condiments. Our food was decent, nothing to get too happy about but they didn't screw anything up. The combo plate came with fries and hushpuppies. Not sure if I would visit again.

Food wasn't great and seems overrated... its basically self service and the fried stuff seemed quite dry inside. To be fair, I'd recommend the fried shrim tacos and the grilled salmon with the garlic butter.

Sorry folks but I cannot give this place a good review at all. We went hoping for whole fish- it’s on the menu but no dice. You place your order at the counter & get buzzed when it’s ready. We both got the catfish filets which were ok. The coleslaw you have to pay $2 extra for which we did but it was awful—basically shredded cabbage & I guess mayo. No onion, relish or even salt or pepper that we could tell. My biggest complaint? The place was dirty- floors unswept- tables not cleaned. I cannot recommend this restaurant & honestly, I’m not a picky eater. Disappointing experience.

Fun spot. I always feel a bit of pressure when I have to walk up to the counter and order first and then sit and wait for food. This place has a lot of choices too. Grilled, fried, spicy, salads...yes salads. Our favorite item was actually the fried pickles. The oysters left a bit to be desired, but everything else was really good. Yes, even the salads. Plenty of different hot sauces too. I always love my condiment choices. Wish I tried the desserts.

A local recommended this place as we were walking along Main and he was spot on. Shrimp and catfish were fresh tasting with light breading. Okra was great and if you like red beans and rice, order it here! Will definitely return before we head home.

On 2nd Street in the heart of Memphis the Flying Fish is perfect if you are looking for a basic, no frills meal. On entering you can stand in line at the counter and when it is your turn make your order and pay. You are then given a pager device with your order number logged in to it. Go find a table and wit until the pager buzzes and then go back to the counter to collect your food. The fish we had was fine but the other meal a jambalaya was not the greatest of its kind that we have had elsewhere, still for a self service cafe I guess it was acceptable.

Visited the Flying Fish during a "sights and Sounds " tour of 5 states with Titan from the UK. Just round the corner from the hotel we stayed in (and Beale Street) it has a really fantastic and friendly feel to it. The welcome from Meghan was great and the choice of food on offer excellent. Had the Jambalaya with catfish which was fantastic A really atmospheric place to eat at very reasonable prices Can't recommend it enough. Worth searching out

Awesome food. Great music (even though it wasn’t live!). We stumbled on this place our first night in Memphis. We were walking down a street looking for BBQ and we saw a sign outside: “Wednesday - All You Can Eat Catfish $17.95.” It was Wednesday, so we walked in! Such a great place! Short wait for food pickup, which was fine, because we were working on 18 oz. Mango Margaritas!!! Really enjoyed it!

In Memphis, you gotta eat at Flying Fish. Just off Beale Street and across from the Peabody. We had the fried combo basket with catfish and shrimp. The breading was crisp and light. The fish and shrimp were tender and flavorful. Order the red beans and rice as a side. The BEST I’ve ever eaten!! The frozen margarita was fun and delicious, and they didn’t skimp on the tequila. Definitely going back to Flying Fish every time we’re in Memphis.

My husband and I loved this place! The food was excellent and the staff was super helpful in helping us decide what to get. I must say that the Gumbo is the best we have ever had! I also loved the lemon pepper veggies on the side of our grilled fish which was mouth watering as well. If ever in Memphis again, we will be sure to make a stop here for dinner again!

This restaurant is decent, No freshly squeezed lemonade only by fountain, shrimp was heavily breaded with cornmeal(yuck) . Tables were rocky which is annoying while eating. No staff never checked in while we eating . I wouldn’t go back
