About
Established in 2002. "Look Good. Eat Good." are the words emblazoned on the front windows at the Beauty Shop. This hip and trendy restaurant in the Cooper-Young district of midtown Memphis does both, as it conjures up images of a '50s-style beauty shop, formerly Priscilla Presley's curl-and-dye spot. It's a camp wonderland where the façade is Jetsons-era Vitrolite, and choice seating is offered beneath hooded Belvedere hair dryers. Nostalgia is served with a sense of humor here. The beauty shop flashback comes complete with original mint green wash basins filling in as sinks behind the hand built bar, made of tiger maple wood. The terrazzo floor is original. Glass brick stalls serve as intimate

The Beauty Shop is a great experience in dining. Almost all of the food selections are unique and different from any other restaurant. If you want a change of pace, and to try something very different, this is the place to go. The setting is...campy in a good way. Service by Jocob was great, with considerable effort to describe the food and assist in making a meal selection. We were able to get a very good bottle of wine at a good cost. All the food was great and not anything we had ever found in any other restaurant. The only downside was that we order strawberry cake to go, but when we got to our hotel, we discovered red velvet cake. While the cake was OK, not having the strawberry was considerably disappointing. Because of this dissapointment, we cannot give an excellent rating. We don't know when we will come through Memphis again, but when we do, we will come to Beauty Shop for a meal.More

Absolutely loved this place. Two weeks into a three-week roadtrip around the south, I was desperately craving a salad (!) and The Beauty Shop was the perfect lunch stop. The food was incredible (I had the chicken and crispy noodle cabbage carrot salad, my husband...had the grilled cheese). Service was a bit mixed - our waitress seemed to get a bit frustrated with us for not making a quicker decision on what we wanted (we'd only been sat down a few minutes and it wasn't busy). The decor is stunning and obviously a great backstory to the shop. Would recommend.More

If you like trendy and hip places this is it. Very cool atmosphere, an old beauty salon apparently where Priscilla Presley would get her hair done in the day. We were seated in a booth which was perfect, secluded so we could talk and be...heard. Other seating was more open where you may have trouble hearing each other but would be very energetic if that is what you are looking for. The food was great! We started with the brussel sprouts and guacamole and chips, excellent we devoured the chips and asked for me. Our waitress was amazing so helpful and very southern LOL!!! Felt like I was in an episode of Steel Magnolia's. Our mains were just as awesome as the apps and who could resist dessert. I even had an old fashioned ice cream float. Great evening had by all.More

Food is very good and service is cheerful and pleasant. Recommend the watermelon wings. Glaze was spot on both for flavor and texture. It helps that it came with an ample supply of warm wet naps. I ordered a side of truffle fries which are...nothing special and could have been skipped.More

There was six of us, but we only had the Jerk Chicken sandwich (four) and the Beet & Orange salad (2). Both of these were excellent. I did enjoy the salad very much, but it is not very filling.......We did have the homemade guacamole which...was terrific but pricey. Additionally, we got one order of the pork dumplings and unfortunately, they were barely eatable due to being oversalted!.....This establishment has a wonderful menu and the service is fantastic!More

I absolutely loved the Beauty Shop! The décor is vintage and futuristic at the same time. I FELT like I was in the south. they use the original sinks at the bar and you can sit at an old fashioned bubble hair dryer. don't be...afraid of the food! It sounds very over the top but there were basic options and all delicious. What I really loved about the food was the portions. they are very small! So you never feel stuffed or forced to finish everything. I thought my friend and I would share our entrees because we couldn't decide what to get but when everything came out, sharing we were NOT, haha. But in a good way. we had: The Beignets: set of 4 (sharable) and were soft, and pillowing. the powdered sugar melted into whatever they cooked them in so it turned into almost a little frosting (royal icing). My friend had the Eggs Benedict and she enjoyed them. I had the biscuits with sausage gravy. The gravy was so good, I started eating whatever was leftover with a spoon because I didn't want it to go to waste. It was, however, a little spicy so I opted to get a crepe for dessert. a basic chocolate, just enough to get the spice out. It was delicious. Our server was very charming. And he was very funny when I ordered my crepe. He placed two forks on the table (one for me and my friend) and I said 'i didn't think I was going to share' and he quipped back; 'the forks aren't to share, it's to battle to the death' and then he walked away. The restaurant is in a nice little spot of town and the menu was decently priced.More

Atmosphere and building seemed run down. Crowded and uncomfortable seating. Not intimate. Just cramped. Cute idea for a restaurant. But it was a miss for me. Don’t know exactly what I expected but this was not it. Service was okay. Took awhile for entrees to...arrive but waitress was friendly and attentive. Menu interesting but actual food was a bit of a let down. Our appetizer of truffle fries was cold. I was underwhelmed with the overall dining experience. Also, there was a 20% gratuity added to our check. That’s just a pet peeve of mine. That’s not gratuity if it’s a mandatory charge. I should be allowed to choose what to tip my server.More

So glad hubs and I were able to sneak lunch in at this awesome and unique spot. Our server was fantastic, everyone was nice actually, and the food and ambiance was amazing. Their lunch menu is great. When on travel, it's hard to try to...eat healthy but this spot had some unique Thai-inspired flare. I started with a Thai iced-coffee and the Thai Fried Dumplings. Both were very good. My husband chose the Grilled Cheese Sandwich of the day that had bacon and fruit jam on it and was served with house chips. I went with the sermon grain bowl loaded with veggies, an egg and I added Jerk chicken as a protein. Noms! All were delish. Hubs also added the Oy Vey fries as well and they were heavy and delicious with thick steak fries and cheese. I ended with one of their delicious gelato flavors - they have a lot for dessert. This is a really cute and different place. Great, healthy and fresh menu but also the Beauty Shop theme. We sat at an adorable table where it looked like I was about to dry my hair. Plenty of street parking and a paid lot attached.More

I loved everything about this place!!! We had a reservation for Saturday brunch. The decor, the theming, the staff… all on point. We sat inside and got one of the hair dryer chairs. The outside seating options inside the glass boxes were very cool, although...we didn’t sit there. The food and coffee was GREAT. :) I would definitely go back!More

We welcome kids! We do not have a separate children's menu, but we have several items on each of our menu that suit pickier eaters, and more adventurous eaters will find plenty of foods they'll enjoy.
