Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I came here b/c this restaurant received high marks from several websites (including the coveted Trip Advisor!) and I wanted to know if this Memphis bbq was worth the hype. I certainly hope that this restaurant does not represent some of the best bbq that...Memphis has to offer. Coming from Texas, which is home to some of the best bbq in the world, I was sadly disappointed in Central BBQ. The brisket was shaved thin, which is a weird way to serve brisket in my humble opinion. The ribs were not very "meaty" and the sausage tasted like it was store-bought from the local supermarket. The cole slaw was bland and the mac and cheese was horrible. The baked beans were the best I've had in a long time and their bbq sauce was actually quite good. I would not eat bbq here again. Very disappointed in light of the reviews and awards this restaurant has received.More

Good place but we may have ordered poorly. Both of us had the pulled pork. It was good, no complaints, but nothing special. Slaw was the same, good but not great. The ribs looked very good. Next time.

We went to visit the Lorraine Motel and when we got out of the car the smells from this restaurant were amazing. So after checking out where MLK was shot (definitely add this to your list) we ventured over to the restaurant because the smells...made us so hungry. The food was amazing! We got a sampler app with all different smoked meats and got a meal. It was delicious! Also bought some BBQ sauce to bring back home!More

Went to pick up a bologna sandwich and a drink. Paid my bill at 12:20 and sat down to wait . At 12:50 I asked for a refund due to my lunch hour being over. Unacceptable service. I won’t be back.

While planning a couple days stop over in Memphis we saw that Central barbecue was often getting great reviews. During the 2 1/2 days we were in Memphis we ended up eating there twice and taking some with us when we left town, The system...of ordering as you enter is very efficient and let’s large groups get served quickly. On the first visit, we had a delicious full rack of ribs and pulled pork nachos. I’ve had some great barbecue and this is definitely at the top. Our second visit was to get ribs and pulled pork for the friends we were going to visit in Louisiana, but we also had to have some more other fine cooking - a loaded baked potato and Caesar salad. And added surprise was to be one block from the historic Lorraine Motel in the infamous balcony in front of room 306.More

We visited Central BBQ twice on a recent trip to Memphis. The first was on a food tour and we sampled the ribs and nachos. We enjoyed the food so we returned for lunch. The ribs are very nice.....tender but not too much falling off...the bone. The sauces are good too. The service is good and prices are reasonable.More

Was told by my nephew this was the best BBQ joint in Memphis. It did not disappoint. Exactly what you would imagine, casual, cool atmosphere and TV's galore to watch your favorite sporting event. Location right across from the Civil Rights Museum. Everyone raved about...the dry rubbed ribs and slaw, pulled pork sandwich and amazing home cooked potato chips, to die for. The pulled chicken was just pulled chicken nothing special. A great stop for lunch before our flight home!!!More

We had lunch at Central BBQ after seeing the Civil Rights Museum. The interior is funky but clean. We had the pulled pork sandwich w/slaw and the pulled pork plate w/baked beans and fried onion rings. I was very happy with the sandwich and slaw...but found chunks of grizzle and fat. The plate was great but we could not finish it. I enjoy the vinegar BBQ sauce with the pork. We would come back again.More

One of my favorite bbq places. Love that it's no frills, but you get plenty of food at a reasonable price. Pulled pork was great as was the mac and cheese. Always visit when I go to Memphis

After more than half hour in line, we finally make our order and they were out of ribs. This is one of the menu highlights, but no one told us before we reached the counter. Plus, not friendly at all.

The worst BBQ I’ve ever had. My brisket was dry and flavorless. The chicken was fair. We only got one salad out of 3 we ordered, and my entrée was missing sides. Being a take out order, it was not worth going g back for,...but at $70.00 for three entrées I expected more.More

Great, authentic TN BBQ! Did not disappoint. Very popular place but line does move. Prices reasonable. Also has a number of good dessert options.

My family loved the bbq after stopping through on the way home from a trip. The pork sandwich with slaw on top was very good, as well as the brisket nachos and Mac n cheese. I was worried after seeing a couple of the bad...reviews, but I simply disagree with them. I love BBQ and have eaten the at best places in Kansas City and St Louis numerous times. It’s a bonus that we could then walk across the street to the historic Loraine Motel site.More

We stopped here for lunch whilst staying nearby. It was quite quiet so service was quick and there were plenty of tables available. The food was very good and reasonably priced. No complaints!

We stopped here for a small lunch, which consisted of a pulled pork sandwich, along with cole slaw and kettle chips. Typical BBQ. Nothing fancy or special. Just good food.

We walked from our hotel but it seems there was plenty of parking near by. The museum is just across the street and would be closed at that time on a Sunday so that could work.
