Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Where do I start. Uncomfortable seating. Stone faced waitress who did not care, did not pay any attention to us, gave us old bread, did not bring plates for the bread and overall did not visit us much at all. It was a struggle for...her to bring us some butter for the break. My Steak tasted a bit like dirty dishwater. Not good.More

Unfortunately, this neighborhood restaurant which was my parents’ favorite, has been ruined by racist Chef Ivan. He got aggressive at the end of our meal at 9pm on Wednesday night when my Egyptian father calmly reported to the waitress that he was disappointed in his...meal and asked to speak with the manager. Our waitress disappeared and another waitress came with a dessert menu and offered a complimentary dessert. My father declined because he didn’t want anything but to report the issues in the hope that they can improve. So, he asked again to see the manager. Chef Ivan came out and was very aggressive in arguing about the issues with his meal, which took over an hour to arrive. My father explained that his soda was flat and a replacement never came and his side of tomatoes never arrived. The short ribs were a boneless chunk of tough meat that could not be cut without a steak knife. He explained that when he reminded the waitress to replace his flat soda, she said they would have to refill the carbonation cartridge the next day. Chef Ivan insisted that the meat was indeed short ribs (my father has ordered that dish there many times before and knows it was not), the soda was not flat and then he called us YOU PEOPLE twice. When my wife asked what he means by that, he said RUDE. Braden, the manager, promised to talk to the owner about the chef’s behavior. She brought us the bill and we paid in full. My father gave his business card to follow up and has not heard anything from the owner Jose Gutierrez two days later. Blaming the customer because the restaurant cannot keep up with the “chaotic” pace of business is bad enough, but referring to customers as “you people” is racist and unacceptable. We will not be back.More

Tomato soup was very good. Halibut was perfect Kielan pie (is that how you pronounce it?) was just divine. Not to be taken for granted, especially if you come from Europe.

We met the chef at Cocozza in Harbor Town in Memphis as she was honored for her painting that was revealed at a private event. She invited us to try River Oaks where she is one of the chefs. We loved it. During the last...couple of months, we returned a few times. When I asked my wife where she wanted to celebrate her Mother's Day dinner, she chose River Oaks. We started with sides of angel hair pasta made freshly. OMG. I had crab cakes and a delicious salad. My wife chose the grouper and I loved my filet. We share bites (surf and turf). Sue enjoyed her Prosecco from Italy and I loved my Meiomi Pinot Noir ...More

This is a bistro (no tablecloths, lively bar, outdoor porch, and a bit noisy). Know where you are headed. The food was excellent. I went for the golden beet and farro salad with Brussels sprouts with an exquisite piece of salmon and a nice glass...of Malbec. Didn’t get near the rich dessert menu. Service was adequate.More

What a gem! We stopped on the way from Dallas to Rileyville VA and happened upon River Oaks for dinner as it was next to our hotel. It was amazing! We had the halibut with vegetables and it was superb. Tender, moist and flakey, the...fish was perfectly prepared and the vegetables crisp and tender. The wine list is expansive and the service excellent. We are planning our return trip around eating here again.More

We enjoyed the food and the service. Nice ambiance and the lack of music was appreciated. Clean and tidy - will certainly go again. Problem with the reservation - it seems that it can only be made by phone and they seem to have lost...ours, but they did fit us in.More

My husband and I came here after I read a review last week. The restaurant had been on my list of places to eat and after seeing the glowing review, we decided it was time to go. The venue is lovely and our server was...warm and friendly, although she was a little slow to check on us when we needed something. The food was delicious with lovely presentations from the kitchen. They do have talented chefs here, but we both felt there is room for some improvement. The menu seems to be made more for the chef and kitchen staff than the patrons. Soups are only those that are listed for that day. There should be more choices, at least 3 every day. We would have also liked some type of bread offered with the meal. The Petit Salad was very modest with only greens and a light dressing. There should be more veggies added, and homemade croutons would have really improved this simple salad so much. I don't think any type of bread exists in this restaurant. It may, but we didn't ask because we figured it would have been offered without us mentioning it. Keep in mind this is the South and bread is considered a staple. My husband had the fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. It was good, but not worth the price for such a basic meal. I had scallops with angel hair pasta. It was very good and the scallops were seasoned well. The seasonal vegetables were added with the pasta underneath. There was probably 2 tablespoons of veggies. I would have liked a little more. At least I got 4 large scallops to eat. All the desserts looked wonderful. We shared a slice of key lime pie and it was a good choice. It was a nice evening, but we won't be back unless we try the lunch menu which is usually a better value and we'd be getting sandwiches with...Bread.More

The service was GREAT, the food was AMAZING, the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate. Pandemic be damned, the seating was well spaced so that everyone was comfortably seated at their table. We'll definitely be returning whenever we're in town💙💙

We tried their curbside "to go" service and it was touchless throughout. We enjoyed two burgers with bleu cheese and pomme frites; both were delicious. They curbside service was seamless; they have a designated parking spot, confirmed our name and put it in the trunk....Just like in the restaurant, Jose and his team provide great food and service!More

Okay I must confess that I go here too often! I have only been there at lunch. It is an expensive lunch, but there are no better dishes anywhere. There is always a fresh fish special and it never disappoints. Their salads are great as...well. I hear the sandwiches are delicious as I have hosted business lunches there and no one was disappointed. You will love this place and go again and again.More
