Not great value the room was basic, its an old building so floors very uneven and everything slopes including the bed which was very uncomfortable. The noise from customers and children running around outside just below our window meant sleeping was impossible till after 11.30 when the pub closed. The breakfast in the morning was limited to either continental or cooked, with anything further you asked for chargeable, again not great value when paying £180 a night. Only positives, the Location was handy for shops, restaurants and the train station and the staff were all very friendly. In all honesty overall I couldn't recommend it. I wouldn't stay here again.

Not enough staff, staff were good but just not enough to deal with a full restaurant. Food was OK, but as with almost every time we have been here in the last two years, the first thing you are told is what is not available from the menu, one time we were there, they were out of potatoes (there is a super market about 200 yards away, that sell potatoes!) Last twice they had ran out of Pizza! We had to ask three times for our table to be cleaned, some member of staff had set the table, but had not cleaned away the mess left by the previous customers. There needs to be better training of staff, we were shown to our table, was not asked for a drinks order, was not given menus, staff were run off their feet but don't know why when they were taking us to our table they did not grab menus for us, and the first thing they should be doing is drinks orders. The food was ok and it was hot and quite large portions, we did have to wait for about 15 minuets for a second bottle of wine and two cocktails! The restaurant really needs to get more staff and to train them on how to deal with customers, we have been coming here since it opened as a restaurant, I did used to play pool in the old bar so I have been giving money over the bar since 1980, it was and could be a brilliant place, but the lack of well trained staff and a menu that is constantly not available.

I am writing this review to compliment this restaurant for the quality of the service we received. It would have been five stars all day long were it not for the fact that the menu wrongly described the main which my wife chose. She would not have chosen it had the inclusion of kedgeree (from an alternative menu) been included in the description. Just a mix up I guess. My steak was vastly improved on the advice of staff member Laura who explained that rib-eye is much better cooked medium rather than medium rare as this allows the fat within the steak to render down. The steak was transformed from being chewy and not so tasty to succulent and bursting with flavour, enhanced by the beef dripping sauce which I selected after being allowed to sample it before deciding. We also received complimentary coffee in light of the menu mix up. I gained the very strong impression that the staff, and Laura in particular, do want to hear of any problems regarding the meal in order to make improvements. Just the attitude I like to hear. We will be back quite soon I feel. The restaurant also has a very nice ambience which adds to the experience.

The decor and cosy vibe is lovely. However the staff and quality of food completely let it down. We hadn’t visited in a while due to us visiting previously and experiencing the same issues but thought we’d give it another go. We experienced the same. The manageress is extremely rude and her manner is not welcoming in the slightest. Our food was £20 per plate and it was luke warm and just tasted like a microwave meal. It is sad because I recently visited the Titchfield Mill Vintage Inn in Titchfield and the food and service was outstanding. It’s a real shame Balloch can’t match this.

Lovely restaurant and always nice to see it being pet friendly. Waiters and waitresses were lovely and attentive however the food for the price could be better. The steak sandwich was more of a snack and little sauce on it made it dry. The Mac n cheese was dry like it was left in an oven or grill for too long leaving half the pasta tough and all mostly dry. The bechamel sauce was non existent either and there was no seasoning.

I suppose it's a Scottish thing, if you are asked how was your meal you reply "good thanks". So my experience of Balloch House, my wife ordered prawns for a starter and they didn't have any, fine so we ordered two soups which were very bland, incidentally there is no salt or pepper on any of the tables, by the time we got some of the waiter the soup was cold. Very disappointing. Mains, I ordered beef and ail pie but no beef left, so got a chicken pie instead, the pie was very drie and came without any gravy, the potatoes were lumpy and veg cold. When I asked for gravy I was told it wasn't part of the meal and I'd have to order it. My wife ordered the signature meal, a burger, she had to leave it because of the amount of salt in the meat. We ordered a bottle of white wine,£22 ( it was a special occasion) which was warm, cheap and tasted like vinegar. Now I'm a typical guy, not too fussy, but this place was really disappointing, so much so that I've found myself writing my first ever review to stop anyone else wasting their time and money.

We were staying nearby at the Bruach Lodge for 4 nights while touring the Argyll area, and The Balloch House lodge/restaurant/pub in nearby town of Balloch seemed like the perfect place to start for our month long visit to U.K. and first dinner. It is a very charming building next to the River Leven that exits the southern end of Loch Lomond. We actually ate there on two occasions as the flooding rains that were occurring at the time limited us to the area, and since we thoroughly enjoyed out first meal there, we decided there was no need to shop around for another place. The atmosphere is old school U.K. with fireplaces, old wood paneling, thick walls, and beamed ceilings. A nicely varied menu and very attentive and cheerful service. We could have stopped after the starters as portions were larger than expected! I had their Signature King Prawn Cocktail with bloody mary Marie Rose sauce, piled on shredded lettuce with chopped tomatoes, avocado and sourdough bread. Their must have been 30 something prawns (small) in the mix. Very flavorful and refreshing (I was surprised as I was expecting something more like a typical shrimp cocktail). My wife ordered the stone baked garlic flat bread. It was hot, delicious, and the size of a personal pizza (7-8")! But we were hungry enough to order a main, so I got the traditional Fish (haddock) and Chips, accompanied by their smashed green peas. All were very goo!, better actually to some others eaten over the next month. My wife got their Pie of the Day (chicken that day), and out came a 8" round puff topped crusted pie with tender seasoned shredded chicken in sauce on the inside, and surrounded with peas, carrots, potato, and onions on the plate. She broke through the crust and stirred in the veggies as she ate the pie. Excellent crust, and fresh flavorful veggies. A definite comfort food dinner on a chilly Scottish night. The prices were refreshingly very reasonable, if not low, considering the quality and volume they served. Our second meal, I got the Pie of the Day (beef & lamb) and she got the Seared Fillets of Sea Bass - both terrific.

We did enjoy our experience as a whole, but my requested rare steak came out very medium. I did inform the server but didn’t want to send it back as I hate food waste and it was still a good piece of meat! Hopefully kitchen will be more careful next time. Nothing was taken off our meal, at over £80 for just two steaks, a pudding and 4 drinks a gesture for my meal not coming as asked for would have been much appreciated, especially as I didn’t want the kitchen to waste another steak. Our server was a young blonde girl who was very attentive and polite, we stopped in after our walk in the afternoon and the service was what made us try dinner there.

I never write bad reviews but I am compelled to do so as our experience was so awful! Which is a pity, as the setting is beautiful and the menu looked lovely…. We booked a meal online and waiting 15 minutes before we were even seen to be seated. When we sat down, we ordered a round of drinks but the waiter got our order wrong and then argued with us when we politely pointed this out. The food was clearly bought from the local coop - we ordered pate and it looked as though it had been emptied from the packet onto the plate with a little bit of garnish on top! The main course had obviously been reheated and the bottom layer of our food was cold! We ordered dessert - hoping for a better experience and my sister’s banoffee was smothered in dark chocolate sauce with mint on top! Hardly what was described on the menu!! The icing on the cake was at the end of the meal when we paid and the waiter added a tip to our card that we hadn’t agreed to - we didn’t realise until looking at the receipt when we got back to our cottage. Unbelievable! All in all the worst dining experience we have ever had!

Went for lunch, have to say very disappointed. After waiting 30mins for food to arrive, found portions very small. Only noticed after my son had finished that salad which was part of his meal never arrived. When I asked staff we found the only option was a takeaway in a box, very poor customer service.

We made a booking online. We were advised It was just as well as they were busy and we were shown to our table and then nothing happened for half an hour despite us going and asking for menus twice. After that the service greatly improved and the chicken schnitzel meals were great but the steaks were very tough and full of sinew. The salad was a very limp bit of lettuce. We were generally very disappointed in our experience there.

Come on chef you need to better your steak pie in red wine gravy. Awful meal. Could not find the meat other than about ten very minor size cubes of meat in a jelly like gravy? Really disgusting. I can buy a ( full to the brim) beef pie from my butcher for a quarter of the price charged for this dish. Will not be back until you provide value for money and decent food. Should help sent it back but it upsets everyone else's meal and evening. Nice hotel but please improve your meals both in quality and quantity.

Our welcome to Balloch House was a warm one, I recognised the manager from a previous visit, he was chatty and friendly. We were served by Megan, who was also friendly and attentive and made sure we were served quickly and our drinks refreshed. It would have been a 5 star review if my Green and Grains salad had been as described. I have had it at another Vintage Inns before and it had grains, seeds, pomegranate and mango, whereas this time it was heavily padded by lettuce. It may well be that it's a variation between premises, it was just a bit disappointing by comparison.

Having a day in Balloch so we went in here for food. Waitress was slow, inattentive and clearly her heart wasn't in it. We ordered wine and she forgot to bring it. After about five or ten minutes we had to remind her. We had the scallops to start. Bad decision! They were poorly cooked, fatty and tasteless. I ordered a steak, it arrived on a cold plate with a few onion rings, half a tomato and a small bowl of chips all of which were no more than slightly warm. With the cold plate the food became cold very quickly. The steak actually tasted OK but it was tough and had a lot of gristle. My partner ordered a fish finger sandwich. The fish in this was quite disgusting. It was cold, stodgy batter on doughy bread with hardly a hint of fish inside. Three or four Bird's Eye fish fingers would have been much more satisfying. All in all this was a poor representation of a meal and it wasn't cheap. I've eaten here several times before with mixed results but this has really put me off. Doubt I'll ever chance it again.

Popped in for Dinner whilst staying in Balloch. Our food came and mine was a beautifully presented and tasty sea bass dish but sadly it was Luke warm. Partner ordered the lamb rump and pie. Again beautiful presentation,Very tasty but chewy rump and again Luke warm. We had waited 35 mins from ordering so just ate it. The fish dish wasn't very filling sadly. The next night I fancied a drink in there and ordered an espresso martini at £8.50. I ended up leaving it it was vile. Again looked good but tasted cheap and harsh. After speaking to a number of locals they individually advised to avoid. Asked why there or pulled a face of distaste. Lesson here...get recommendations. It isn't cheap to eat out so you at least want hot food and to feel satisfied. Sad as the place itself is nice.
