Thankfully, our Scotland Travel Expert Mark Allen took us here to get warmed up after touring Balkaneil on a cold, blustery and rainy day that we were probably ill suited for clothing wise. I usually don't take foodie photos but the cocoa was so over the top, I couldn't resist. It was delicious as was the latte, flat white, and pastries. Drinks and snacks for three ran about $26.

Having walked across Faraid Head in gale force winds and rain, Cocoa Mountain was a welcome treat. Great cup of hot chocolate topped with molten milk AND white chocolate drizzled over. I bought the hot chocolate chaser £6.95 with 4 hand picked chocs of my choice. No sit in available and card payment only but understandable with the C-19 beast around. A must stop if you are in Durness

First of all I'll address some of the negative reviews based on my own observations....(these are probably from the crowd of folks that have avoided Benidorm this year, cluelessly rented motorhomes and left their crap all over the Highlands) Toilets: Yes, they were closed due to Covid, get over it. Tables: No, there aren't any currently inside, it's the Highlands, who wants to be inside anyway when you have such great scenery outside. Staff: Ladies we encountered very friendly and chatty about local beaches. Hot Chocolate: ABSOLUTELY DEVINE! Very likely does deserve the title of the best hot chocolate, yes, it is more expensive than a McDonald's hot chocolate but for sheer hot chocolate pleasure I don't think it can be beat. Grab a croissant, don't sit inside, stroll to the nearby beach, sit on the sand and take in the amazing scenery whilst being warmed by a delightful hot chocolate and savour the whole experience.

We have visited Cocoa Mountain on numerous occasions over the years and prior to our last visit this week it has never been a disappointment. Clearly the stress of dealing with many more customers in light of pandemic has had a negative impact on staff and supplies. We asked for savoury options but the server snapped "we only do chocolate as a specialist chocolatier!". We advised them that as recently as 10 months ago they were serving sandwiches too, and that the offer of only 3 chocolate flavours at 11am did not strike us as sufficient for a cafe that was specialising in chocolate. Most people visiting would similarly be disappointed by what was on offer here. The hot chocolate was served in disposable cups and it was very tasty, the service and lack of choice in Cocoa Mountain would put me off making the trip back to Durness and I couldn't recommend this venue to friends now. Try Meet and Eat Cafe for a lovely lunch and welcoming staff

Bought two Cappuccinos served in tiny disposable cups at £2.95 a time. Plus two small raspberry muffins and a bar of chocolate all totalling out at over £16. Take it or leave it, couldnt care less attitude from staff members. Seems Coronavirus is negatively affecting the owner of this place and her staff. My firm recommendation, avoid unless you want to be disappointed and be ripped off and taken for a ride. No warm welcome here for sure!

On the 10th December 2020, I ordered an expensive box of chocolates from them, using their online shop. The chocolates were a Christmas present for my mother, who lives alone and due to Covid-19 restrictions, was unable to see much of her family. The chocolates were to be sent direct to her. The chocolates were, according to the company's confirmation, dispatched on 17th December, 7 days after the order was placed. They did not arrive in time for Christmas, so on Christmas Eve I emailed them, asking for an explanation. I have yet to receive a reply. Nor are they answering their phone. And as of today, 30th December, the chocolates have still not arrived. This will be the last time I use this company, who can't even be bothered to reply to emails and to answer the phone. Avoid this company and get your chocolates from more reputable sources.

Arrived to a very unkept building with what looked like a ‘for sale’ sign in the window from a distance. Front of shop all overgrown, not a great first impression. Shop uninviting and a little grotty, tables all pushed to side with some very overpriced chocolate for sale. Toilets closed ‘awaiting a plumber’, having read some reviews since returning home, seems like they have been waiting a long time?! Staff not overly welcoming either. My friend decided to buy a hot chocolate, which was poured out half way back to the caravan site as it wasn’t very pleasant. Given this place was recommended we were very disappointed and would neither return or recommend. I appreciate covid restrictions could have had some negative impacts on this business, however taking a strimmer to the front area, a clean and a spruce up would make a great start! Some work to be done I think.

We have been here twice before over the years & always had a really enjoyable experience however last week when we visited was very disappointing in comparison. The girl at the till was not friendly or welcoming at all & it felt like such a rush/hassle while my daughter was choosing her chocolates. There were no tables inside & big pieces of tape over the cushioned bench along the wall. (There is enough space to safely have some tables available as there are much smaller places providing this option safely.) There was also no toilet available. I understand these are challenging times however when we are paying almost £40 for 5 hot drinks & some chocolates we really should have a friendly service, access to the toilet & been able to sit inside rather than outside in the wind & rain.....

We stopped hear as rated by a friend - I am not a massive hot chocolate fan but the chocolate mocha was delish if not expensive. The cost is so high as you can not sit in or even use the toilets DUE TO COVID- other places on the route allow this. Probably would not go back.

After reading about this place online we were really excited to visit. Arriving around 10:30, they had already run out of chocolates. For two mochas, two croissants and a small bar of chocolate, it came to just under £20. The mochas didn’t taste exceptional in any way and definitely didn’t justify the price.

I love hot chocolate and looked forward to having one at Cocoa Mountain. It cost £4.50 and I thought wow this is going to be something special. The reality was there was nothing special about it at all. It was a greatly overpriced, ordinary, not very strong hot chocolate ( it was hot!) J.Jefferson

I ordered a coffee but was told minimum card payment was £5 and they weren’t accepting cash . I didn’t wNt anything else so had to leave it . I understand these are difficult times due to Covid however as a solo traveller I feel a bit more compassion could have been displayed

I can’t understand how this place is still attracting customers- apart from the fact it’s the only place open for miles around. Overpriced hot chocolate..would have probably been passable if it was hot. Person making the drinks was rude to those waiting ages and he didn’t seem to want to be there. From the temperature of the hot drinks maybe he shouldn’t! Had a GF cake option on a tray next to gluten containing products with no regards for cross contamination. One toilet working only and it was filthy….tables not cleared etc…would not visit again..an expensive and disappointing experience.

Due to Covid restrictions limiting seating numbers all drinks were served as take away. It was a bit chilly to sit outside drinking thHot Chocolate. This place was by far the busiest outlet as it has a reputation for exceptional Hot Chocolate drinks. Neither my wife or I are huge fans of Hot Chocolate but did try it and found it reasonable enough but we are not best judges.

We stopped here on our NC500 trip due to all of the reviews we had read. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed, set in a strange sort of industrial estate with a shabby surround, cocoa mountain seemed a bit out of place. They also didn’t have any usable toilets which isn’t great for customer service. The hot chocolate wasn’t very nice but the one redeeming factor was their lemon chocolates which were very tasty
