Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bar looks nice, nice furnishings, but absolutely zero atmosphere, sometimes the bar staff are there, sometimes not and you just have to wait, and wait, and wait

Ate lunch here, and have to say thoroughly disappointed. We had a selection of : Prawns (tiny tasteless little prawn in huge amount of batter), toastie (how this could be tastless is beyond me, but it was) and chowder - unusual to say the least. Table were kept dirty even though plenty of staff on that day. Not great service and certainly would not be back. Didnt stay there so cant comment on the rooms

Myself & friend were staying in the adjoining hotel so we decided to dine here. I hate to be harsh, but I'd have gotten better fish & chips from my local takeaway. My friend opted for a chicken dish...and it looked like something from a deli counter. The prices were staggering for the quality of food and the presentation of it. Additionally, we bought a bottle of Chilean Sauv Blanc, which is usually a safe choice. I'm no connoisseur, nor too fussy...but I left two glasses in the bottle. I won't be dining here again.

Pulled in for lunch on a lovely day. It's a lovely spot overlooking the pier. Inside we were told that they were only serving soup & chowder & the takeaway menu. But you couldn’t have soup or chowder if you sat outside?? Also the area beside the dinning area was nearly empty, but you couldn’t have food there?? We sat inside, regrettably, as there was a very strong smell of cooking oil. Even our clothes smelt after we left. The service was up & down, 1 staff member was good, the rest, poor. Our drinks order sat on the bar for around 10 minutes before they brought them over. Then the food arrived in takeaway boxes!! Is this acceptable in a restaurant? The burger was close to being cermated but the saving grace of the whole lunch was the fish & chips. They were very good, really tasty. But, 4 people, 4 takeaways, a couple of beers & a couple of colas, €103. Outrageous!! Was embarrassed to have brought visitors there, in my own country.

Was told kitchen was backed up with orders - too me it seemed very strange everyone else was eating but us ! Finally got our meal after 60 minutes. Salad had a hair on it so let hungry! Very disappointing ! Will never return

The steak was good, unfortunately the other dishes were not! However the major issue was their adherence to COVID regulations. It was extremely poor, even by the person in charge. No prior booking necessary, some staff members did not wear a mask, others had visors, social distancing was nonexistent, the bar area was a free for all........ Overall very poor compliance with regulations and wouldn’t inspire confidence.

We spent a very very cold afternoon on the beach. It was great, but it worked up a big appetite! We went to Quay side which was quite busy so we did wait a bit but it was well worth the wait. Delicious food! Well worth a visit.

Absolutely terrible. Opted for the bacon and cabbage and the cabbage was clearly off. It had gone past it's best and had brown bits which was very off putting.

We called in to The Quay Bar after a walk on the beach. We were delighted that both oat and soy milk were available for coffee, the hot chocolate was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Spent a week at the Pier Head hotel recently. The Quay was a good place to have a gin and a laugh. Especially if Liam or Evan were behind the bar. A bit rough when the sewage smell backs up though...

We’ve been travelling Ireland, not once being asked for a covid cert. The manager saw us park up in our camper, once we got inside asked us if we were dining inside, (v wet night) so yes. Asked did we have our covid cert after a while which didn’t seem right, surely that should’ve been asked first. They had one customer in their bar and turned away two hungry people. He then proceeded to watch us in our camper. So we moved. Very rude man. Lovely area, unfortunately the welcome was that bad from this restaurant that we left. We understand covid regulations, but the manager could’ve been nice about it and not a cheeky git 👌🏼
