Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped in for a late breakfast after riding our motorbikes down from Karamea. Really friendly service and a great breakfast to fuel more fantastic West Coast riding. Love the theory of starting with a big breakfast and take out anything not wanted.....I had everything. Excellent...amount of bacon was a key to success. Coffee was solid but not spectacular :-)More

Returning from Denniston stopped at Drifters for lunch. As soon as you see the food on display - you know this will be great food. A good choice available, from cabinet food to meals. Went for the flat bread, whitebait sandwich, followed by coffee &...scone. Seated in the ample outdoor area, our coffee soon arrived - great coffee. This set the expectations high for the food - was not disappointed. All fresh ( the scone was just out of the oven) - the whitebait was to die for, good sized portions This was the best food we had on our Coast visit.More

Shirley whipped me up a yummy sandwich, then chatted with us about the incredible Old Ghost Rd: then returned my wallet promptly, when I accidently left it behind in the sofa!! We loved the New Zealandy friendliness of your café Shirley - a great finish...to our bike-packing trip. Hope the flower pots happen - they'll look fab outside on the pavement.More

Stopped by for a coffee on the way to Karamea. Really nice coffee and friendly service. Located on the main highway but the day we visited there were very few cars passing. Great craft shop (Torea Gallery) next door. Wife bought two beautiful silk and...Marino wool scarves.More

Called in for breakfast before heading home to Christchurch after a few days on the coast. We chose the 'big breakfast' and were not disappointed. Fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and potatoes served with bread. A very generous portion and delicious. Ordered tea for two...and it wasn't a problem asking for it to be made strong.(Some cafes charge extra for more than one teabag!) The lady serving us was lovely and gave a genuine welcome to us and other customers arriving whilst we were there. There was a very good selection of cabinet food too. It's not open everyday so plan carefully!More

We dropped in here on our way back from tramping the Heaphy Track Our whitebait omelettes were fantastic with other options on the menu equally tempting. Flat whites were generous Very friendly place and definitely worth stopping here In fact Granity itself looks intriguing and...we will return for a closer lookMore

It´s a nice place for a cup of coffee or tea. Yoy can sit outside in the shade or inside on a comfortable chair. The service is perfect, the flat white was awesome.

I've been to this cafe several times over the years, and have always liked the location, and the fact that the menu is a little more sophisticated than in other parts of the Coast. However, these days, there seems to be problems with opening times...- went there a couple of times to find it closed. When we did manage to eat there - on a Sunday afternoon - many of the items on the menu were either not available, or were running out! There was only one bottle of low alcohol beer in the fridge, and very little else available. As it was summer, and therefore the busiest time for them, it was a little disappointing. But I've always enjoyed it before, so I'll reserve judgement, and will give it another try next time I'm down there.More

My first taste of the local whitebait fishes, great coffee, and enjoyed the cake later in the tent. Friendly locals, dogs and people wanting to inform me on the railways, mines and places that were once part of a bigger place, but never to small...to stop off if I ever pass that way again. Thanks!More

Wanted to stop somewhere different and this was the place. Good coffee and home made baking. Had sausage roll and chocolate layer cake with cream and ice cream. A nice coffee to complement it. Go on. Give it a try.

Just out of Westport on the Karamea Highway you will find Drifters Café in the once boom town of Granity. Drifters is a useful stop for folk to take on some fuel and drink and to sit out in the sun and gaze at a...West Coast small town whose heyday is well and truly gone but there are some nice reminders of what it once was – a Coast Mining Town Drifters set back from on the East side of the Highway and on its rear boundary is the railway line. If you luck in you will be reminded that the Coast still digs stuff out of the ground as 1600 tonnes of carbon rumbles by courtesy of Trans Rail and the Stockton Mine. The interior has some handsome wooden furniture and outside there are some tables with shade cloth. A friendly sheepdog was on hand to meet and greet us last time we visited. The cabinet food has all the usual suspects and the cafe, (which is licenced), provides a range of short order foods. A heroic sized flat whites were produced by mine hostess who was agreeable enough. Prices seemed reasonable. Upside Good outdoors seating Friendly staff Clean toilets Declaration of Interest - Have visited the Drifters on two occasions when travelling through to Karamea Would I go back – yes, in my opinion it is a bit more pleasant to stop here for a coffee than in Westport.More

Went for a drive and had a great morning snack at this wonderful cafe. My husband and I were out and stopped in. Was a lovely day, stopped for coffee and cake, gluten free options available. Wished we had a bigger appetite as the fish...and whitebait meals looked amazing. Still had a small snack and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere - will be backMore
