Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food is excellent-we loved everything we had-fried green tomatoes, salmon, shrimp and grits, catfish, local brews on tap was a plus ! Chill atmosphere, great service, def suitable for kids and couples alike. Two levels, restaurant on the lower and covered rooftop seating upstairs. We...went two days in a row, live music Friday and Saturday beginning at 6:30-guitars/keyboard, both nights the entertainment was excellent. Directly adjacent to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, we love the Whistle Stop !More

We stopped at Whistle Stop with our friends who had recently moved the Travelers Rest. The food was good home style. We really enjoyed ourselves. The chicken salad is the best. Our friends had pot roast. We will definitely good back when we visit again

Good and hearty American food. The fried catfish and shrimp grits hit the spot. Good portions and cooked just right. Nice atmosphere - open to the outside. Hopefully the heaters keep you warm in coolers temps. Have a full bar for drinks and a good...beer selection. Had live music on Friday night and keeps things lively. Staff was super friendly. This is literally right on the Swamp Rabbit Trail - so walking, hiking, or biking makes a lot of sense.More

Had lunch at the Whistle Stop in Travelers Rest SC and it was a definite throw back to earlier times. The fried green tomatoes were excellent, the chicken salad very good but the strawberry cake made the visit very memorable! Great service by Brandy who...never let our glasses get qempty and who checked in on us to make sure everything was just right! It was just a fun stop while visiting a friend at Furman University. I had no idea how close this town is to the campus! Lots of downtown places, bars and cafes but friends had told us that the FGT (fried green tomatoes) were great and they were. I would easily go back, if you go, get the cake.More

I have been to this restaurant multiple times for lunch. The shrimp and grits are my favorite. Service and the quality of food has always been excellent. The only negative is the prices are high. $21 for a hamburger? I had the shrimp and grits...and a piece of pie the other day. With tip, it was $40. I have to rethink whether a $40 lunch is necessary.More

This place was a delightful surprise! We stopped here for dinner on a whim while traveling and absolutely adored it! We have two young boys, so the train theme was super fun, and we sat on the patio and enjoyed live music from a fantastic...musician as we enjoyed dinner. Everyone's food was very good (I had the burger that has fried green tomatoes on it! yum!), and although we did not partake, we saw that they even have a little walkup ice cream stand, which is perfect as there is a walking/biking trail that runs right behind the building. Even the bathroom was adorable, filled with nostalgic art. Wonderful, most perfect family restaurant!More

Overpriced cheese cake. It is displayed in a nice desert cooler for good marketing. Publix is much better.

Fish plate and veggie burger ordered. The veggie burger was pleasantly spicy, just right. One of the best I’ve had. The fried fish was also good. I ordered a draft beer. It wasn’t as cold as I like, which is why I’m giving 4 stars....Staff very friendly, attentive.More

I ordered the catfish and my wife got fish and chips. One was $17 and one was $22 but the fish looked exactly the same. It was the same, actually. The catfish was bland and undercooked and actually gross. The fried okra and french fries...were good, but who can't fix those? Service was great, however. Prices were high. Won't be back.More

Were here on a Saturday afternoon and sat downstairs in the side room. Lots of nostalgic items in the room and the decor and art were very cool. We ordered the daily special of chicken and waffles, potato soup and the stew meat soup and...we shared an order of mozzarella sticks. Food was hot and tasty and reasonably priced. Service was good but it took over 30 minutes for food to arrive. Neat spot and would recommend but just do not be in a hurry to catch a flight at the nearby airport.More

We were initially seated at the front of the restaurant, in the room with the mini train that drives around on a track hanging from the ceiling. Our two year old was very pleased that they turned the train on for her. The doors were...open, so it was a bit warm where we were seated. Thank goodness, Wendy was our server. She saw our daughter’s cheeks getting pink and that she was becoming fussy and asked if we’d like to move to the back, where it was cooler. She also brought her a cup of mandarin oranges and a small duck toy to play with while we waited on our food. And the food? Delicious!! Everything was amazing - especially my shrimp and grits and the fried green tomato appetizer! Our girl was so happy once we got situated in the back, and we got to enjoy our dinner, instead of suffering through with a fussy toddler. We were so grateful to Wendy for giving us that good time! All of the staff were wonderful and the atmosphere couldn’t be more cool if you are into old timey decor and trains.More
