Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had the Fried Green Tomatoes and She Crab Soup, both very good. For entree had Braised Beef Short Rib, delicious. For dessert, had the White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie - I normally prefer chocolate desserts but this one was highly recommended. It was good, and...the two of us finished it all, but not sure I'd get again (but if you love banana pie and short bread, and looking to try a different dessert, I'd say it's worth a shot). Not a wine drinker, but they have a cellar and their selection is huge.More

Very nice place. Friendly fun service. Good food. Great outdoor seating. On Main Street. Nice wine selection, but don't order the tart wine.

Enjoyed an early dinner on a FRI evening with two friends of ours (their first visit). Starters included the she crab soup, beet salad, and burrata salad. Entrees: short ribs, scallops, shrimp and grits. Shared a slice of the white chocolate banana cream pie. All...very good, along with the service from Jennifer.More

Took my girlfriend to this location for her birthday. Menu was very weak and the main course was a fish. I asked them what the hell was I served. A kids meal from McDonalds was more. The best part of the evening was the two...glasses of wine that eased the pain. It only took 142 dollars to figure out that I'd never dine there again, and that my girlfriend is a big cry baby.More

Our food was very good, the atmosphere enjoyable and staff nice. We had She Crab Soup, Charred Brussels Sprout salad, the pork belly special app of the day, with short ribs and sword fish. My husband was particularly happy with the sword fish, since it...is very difficult to hey fish cooked perfectly most places. There was a minor mix up with our drink order. At first the server was kind of off, but they warmed up. We would go back again.More

We didn’t have a reservation and the restaurant was packed. We were lucky and found a table within a few minutes in the non-reservation area by the bar. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were outstanding....Even though the restaurant was busy, our server took good care of us and the food arrived as soon as expected for a busy night. All in all, a great place to go for a night out. Tip of the day. Make reservations on weekends or holidays and this is a go to place downtown Greenville and it’s always busy.More

Soby's was highly recommended. It didn't disappoint. The service was attentive and well-intended. The food was very good and the prices were more than fair and reasonable. The wine list is just crazy. One of the biggest wine lists I have ever seen. And some...of the prices are crazy expensive too. While you really have to look to find some values, there are indeed values. Like the Hermann J. Wiemar dry riesling from New York at $80 per bottle. There are multiple vintages priced at $600+. I don't know who is buying those wines. If I'm buying a $600+ wine, it's going to be at a restaurant with white tablecloths and a dress code. That's probably my only complaint. No tablecloths and no dress code. I was really surprised to see t-shirts and shorts with sandals.More

Been to Soby's a lot, first bad meal was last night, so sad. My undercooked salmon was like sushi (bleeeech), tasteless black (ugh) rice and Brussels sprouts were a huge disappointment. Generally the meals here are excellent and I bring my out of town guests...here always. Will have to rethink.More

The service was excellent! Our food was fantastic. I had the short ribs and my Mother-in-law had the shrimp and grits. They made her birthday celebration special and offered her dessert on them. She picked the white chocolate banana cream pie and it was delicious....Light and not too sweet., bonus it was enough for 2 :)More

We have not seen this level of service since before Covid. The waiter (Donnie) was attentive without being over bearing. He explained very well what was on the menu and what he thought was good. He also explained where substitutions were allowed. The food was...great and served in a timely manner. The Pimento Cheese appetizer was large enough for two with some to take home. The crab cakes were awesome as was the Braised short ribs.More

We had a meeting scheduled in Greenville and arrived late from LA. Our hotel suggested Main Street. We stumbled on Soby…such a treat. The ambiance is very cool, old Mill building. The wine list amazing (and we are California wine snobs). Craft cocktails well done...and terrific food. We had she crab soup and butternut squash soup to start, then crab cakes and snapper for entre. We shared and everything was great . Solid friendly service. Enjoy!More

Restaurant Week visit. Starters: she crab soup and charred brussel sprout salad. Entrees: fried chicken and grilled coulette steak. Dessert: brown butter pecan pie and vanilla bean cheesecake. Food and service wonderful as always. Highlight for me was to meet Mr. Carl Sobocinski when we...arrived - I talked with him a minute, expressed our love of Soby's and his other Table 301 restaurants.More

For management and other servers I would give this a 0 star, but for our incredible bartender I still gave 4 because she deserves 10. A make server came to confront her in front of customers and the manger? indulged this man in his childish...behavior despite the fact that many customers were still around. I don’t know exactly what the sad mad was upset about, but our bartender was extremely kind, attentive, and made a fantastic drink. 10/10 for her and booo for the dudes throwing a fit in the corner. It seems her other bartenders had her back which I appreciated. If nothing else, she was the only one person involved who seemed to think about keeping the customer out of the drama.More

Absolutely, bar area could be a little noisy... but if you sit upstairs you'd be fine - you'd just have to keep toddlers away from the stair/railings
