Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Appetizers were great but dinner was not flavorful. No alcohol, but can byob. Small place, so may need reservations. Supposed to be Turkish, but all the waitstaff are Asian.

My daughter and I decided to eat here after reading previous reviews. We ordered pomegranate tea (watered down and no flavor), hummus (it was okay and the best thing we had), and chicken kebobs (they were inedible—the cubes of chicken were so rubbery). We had...dinner reservations, but a lot of people poured in because of a concert. Most did not have reservations, but they sat them anyway (a table of 10-12, a table of 6, a table of 5, and a bunch of two tops). This caused the servers to be overwhelmed. They were working so hard to keep up, but it was impossible when 25 or more people are sat within 10-15 minutes. For people who did plan on a nice meal, they are not properly taken care of (I don’t blame the servers for this) and the kitchen can’t prepare the food properly. Absolutely awful. This was one of the worst meals I have had at a restaurant—ever.More

We ate across the street in their small coffee shop location. It turned out to be an enjoyable experience. Our waitress was very charming and accommodating. I would highly recommend this coffee spot if you are ready to try new breakfast options.

Wow! Excellent service, clearly the whole staff cares. Several groups appeared to be locals, everyone seemed to be having a great meal. Food was exceptionally good. Separate (extensive) menus for food sensitivities (GF and DF in our group), and servers very attentive to those needs....No liquor license, but a complementary class of red or white wine with your meal if you ask.More

I travel extensively for a medical team, and happened across this little place. At first I thought it was not open, however there are two locations right across from one another. One specifically for breakfast, the other for more formal dining. The waffle with fresh...fruit was amazingly lite, yet filling. The Sultans Coffee was authentic, and brewed exactly as I remember from my trips abroad. Everything was very bright, clean, and pleasing to the eye and aesthetically plated. For the business traveler, I highly recommend, as it was an unforeseen treat.More

Try the Turkish Breakfast for Two. Enjoy the cheery yellow walls and stained glass parrot lights and the lovely turkish light fixtures. Enjoy coffee or tea from a nation that does both well. Busy popular spot.

Alihan's is not as good as I remember it to be. During the most recent visit the food was overall quite mediocre. We were not crazy about the atmosphere either. On a positive note, the servers were nice and helpful.

Good food, pleasant staff, lovely location. We were staying in town overnight at the Renaissance Hotel and saw that this restaurant was nearly across the street. It was comfortable and quiet with both inside as well as alfresco seating. The wait staff weren’t many but...they were very kind polite and attentive. The portions were quite large and the food generally delicious. My only concern was that I wasn’t sure that all of my chicken was done. I would definitely return.More

The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere in the outdoor area is cozy with comfy seating. We had the hummus and they provided veggies for me because I am gluten free while my husband had a delicious homemade bread. The sea bass filets were...delicious with a generous salad. My husband had Iskender kebab, which was an enormous serving that he said was very delicious. We would highly recommend this restaurant.More

As a Turkish person, I have never had a doner like Alihan’s doner and Iskender kebab. I can say they were the worst. The meat did not taste and looked like a Turkish doner. The ingredients and texture of the meat were very bad. Also,...they were dry and some pieces were burned. When we complain to the waitress, she said she will talk to management but we did not get any feedback. The side salad had no seasoning and sauce. Rice pilaf was tasteless too. I am giving it 2 stars because the atmosphere was good.More

My husband and I stop at Alihan's for dinner when we have tickets to an event in the cultural district and, after trying other nearby restaurants, we believe that we will be hard-pressed to go anywhere else. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, the staff...is beyond friendly and accommodating (and wearing masks, thank you!), the menu is diverse and reasonably priced as well. The best stuffed grape leaves and falafel I have had in the city (as appetizers). The grilled kebabs are delicious, and served with generous portions of rice and salad (my only complaint there is that shredded salads are more difficult to eat, for me anyway, than a chopped salad would be but perhaps it takes less time to prep it in that way?). The Turkish bread is heavenly, as is the olive and walnut dipping oil. This is a restaurant that knows what it can do well, and does it consistently. We look forward to our return! BTW, parking in the adjacent garage is a deal at $10 on an event night! Great food, convenient parking, and just steps to Heinz Hall (a block further to the Benedum). :)More

We had wonderful takeout of falafel, hummus, and grape leaves. The flavors were amazing and satisfied our craving for great Mediterranean. Service was wonderful and the food was ready for takeout. Highly recommend!

The food was wonderful and the service was excellent! The marinated lamb kebabs were delicious. We were able to walk in after a Steelers game without a reservation and were promptly seated. We will definitely return if we are back in Pittsburgh.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed having dinner outside in downtown Pittsburgh at Alihan's mediterranean. The service is quick and helpful, letting us sit inside while waiting for our outside table. The food was excellent and the house wine just great!
