Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A longtime friend and I agreed to meet for lunch in Oakland. We arrived early at our planned restaurant only to find it didn't open until noon. Drat! Jan suggested we walk back and eat at Lucca Ristorante, which we had passed along the way....Neither of us had eaten there before. We were so happy with our lunches: I had the house salad with salmon; Jan the harvest salad with chicken. We shared a couple cannoli for dessert. In addition to the delicious meal, we were so pleased to have such a fine waiter serve us. Jan mentioned a couple times, "He is so nice." He was knowledgeable and informative as to the menu offerings and made us feel like valued patrons. I commented, "I was never so glad my original restaurant choice was closed." We will be back.More

Service was ok. Food was mediocre at best. Our seating was curious as we’d asked to be seated outdoors but told there no availability even with plenty of open tables, some not even set. I ordered bolognese that was described in the menu as, “Veal,...pork and beef bolognese with Parmesan and San Marzano Tomato Basil Sauce and Fresh Mozzarella.” Instead it came with a brown sauce and chunks of stew meat (?) and mushrooms. Average would be generous. We’d ordered cocktails. They were served after our entrees were delivered with the explanation, “oh, the bar wasn’t stocked, sorry your drinks are late.” As we left, it was hard not to feel frustrated at seeing all the open tables on the patio. Instead, we’d been seated in a dark dining room empty but for us and one other couple.More

Luca is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Our daughter went to school at Pitt so every time we were in the area, we went to Luca for a special night out. We have been on the road three weeks traveling with our 14...pound golden doodle, two weeks ago we made a reservation for Luca, and in the comments we told them about the dog. We asked for outdoor seating on their patio, and although they did not specifically say they were pet friendly on their site, they did not call us to tell us that they were not……until 4 hours before we we’re supposed to arrive. They did reach out a day or so ago to confirm our reservation, so we figured we were all set. We are now left scrambling to find another restaurant for this evening. Sad to say, but because of the way we were treated today we will never go back to Luca again.More

I was unsure what to expect, as the 4.0 rating here normally makes me avoid a restaurant. However, as a parent of a new student in the city, I was looking for a nice restaurant for dinner with my wife and on the parent social...media groups, Lucca kept coming up. Cait was our server, and she was attentive and caring yet not intrusive. The best part of all, as you would hope, was the food. We tried four main dishes over two meals (loved it so much we came back the next day with daughter in tow) and four appetizers as well. The Brussels sprouts app is unreal. A little more deep fried than I expected, but delicious and huge compared to what I find at most places. The caprese salad was fresh and delicious. The meatballs were delicious. And we had a crustini dish that was great. The salmon was perfectly cooked, the and the tenderloin papardelle dish was one of the best dishes I've ever had. The truffle papardelle was also great, and we had it on the second night with gluten free penne and it was still delicious. The only dessert we tried was the blueberry brulee cheesecake, and the crust was less crusty than I prefer in a cheesecake. But, that wasn't worth removing a star for. Cait is an asset to the restaurant and we hope to be able to have her help us when we return to town in the futuee.More

Loved this restaurant. Dustin, our server, was kind and attentive. One of us has dietary restrictions, and he was well-informed and helpful. Our meal was delicious. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Had an 8:30pm reservation on a Saturday in which we had to wait for our table. However, plenty of open tables, but we all understood they may have been short staffed. Male bartender was great and mixed great cocktails while we waited. Restaurant ran out...of bread... Italian restaurant ran out of bread at 830pm on a Saturday. Our server was very kind and tried to provide us what she could to the best of her ability. Italian Wedding soup was lukewarm at best upon arrival. Beef Pappardelle was great except for the beef. That was over cooked and was very hard to chew.More

I want to be as fair as possible in giving this review. My wife and I were on time for our reservation on a Friday evening, and waited approximately 10 minutes to even be acknowledged while we were waiting for our table. Our server, Jake, was...very friendly and did a fantastic job delivering the food and keeping up with drinks. My wife ordered the Frutti di Mar con Rigatoni which states in the menu comes with a rose sauce, and I ordered the Seafood Manicotti, which states in the menu it comes with alfredo sauce. While the appetizers only took 20 minutes to come out, we waited for 50 minutes for our entrees. When I asked what was taking so long, they told me the manicotti was frozen, and had to be thawed out. Once that arrived, my manicotti was in red sauce, not alfredo. I called over to Jake, who went back to check to see if this was correct. The bartender whose name we found out was Dustin, ridiculed us out loud for the whole restaurant to hear, saying that the alfredo is in everything, and we didn't know what alfredo really was. I was super disappoined, and asked that they just take it back. I was uninterested. The banter and heckling from Dustin behind the bar continued until I asked Jake politely to give us our bill so we could leave. My wife and I frequent and review restaurants every weekend and were really disappointed with how we were treated by the staff, excluding our server Jake who did his best to take care of us. This restaurant came recommended to us by a friend, but have to say we were extremely disappointed and disrespected. More

...this ain't it. Lifelong Pittsburgher here who visited for the first time ahead of an event at the museum. Everything was average tasting -- the negroni was meh and the bread didn't seem that fresh. I ordered the alla chitarra and everything was terribly bland,...and I actually chuckled when my husband's short rib risotto arrived because the beef was in one large rectangle and so overcooked it looked like a dark chocolate candy bar. Ultimately he didn't eat it. Why didn't we say anything? Apparently all the reservations arrived at the same time and the staff was overwhelmed. Our server did his best but was visibly stressed out (very sweaty) and he apologized for the delays in getting the courses out, so there would not be enough time to get anything new even if we wanted it. The kitchen was behind, and we know that was not his fault. Because we felt bad for the server and needed to be out at a specific time, we chalked it up to a lesson learned and moved on. Better places to go for the money.More

We ate lunch here on Friday before visiting the Museum. The restaurant is quite convenient. We shared a bowl of Italian Wedding soup and the soup was excellent but only lukewarm. Similar issue with an excellent cup of coffee but also lukewarm at best. We...both had the chicken piccata. My wife thought it was great and I thought it was okay. The serving size was quite generous. Service was okay. some of the restaurant furniture was pretty worn. This fest, with tip was $54.00More

It pains me to write this review as this restaurant used to be one of our favorites when visiting our daughter at Pitt, but something has gone terribly wrong here. They must have new owners, Chef or both, but we had a reservation for our...family as a party of 6 and it was the worst meal we have ever had. Not one person ate more than one or two bites of their meals. We had to send everything back because it was all cold (not warm but cold). They brought all the food back pretty quickly and surprise still cold. I had a Chicken Saltimboca and I am not sure what they served me but it was not Saltimboca and had no prosciutto or any cheese. In addition it had potatoes for some reason. When we called the waitress back for the 3rd time it was clear that she already knew everything was terrible, and this must have been the theme recently. She just apologized and took everything away uneaten, but they still charged us for 1/2 priced meals. We could not get out of there fast enough so didn’t really complain and have tried to forget the experience for the last month but it still haunts us. Avoid this place like the plague and just go to the Union Grill instead.More

I was visiting Pittsburgh and wanted a good Italian restaurant. Read multiple reviews and looked at different menus. I chose Lucca in Oakland. I had read showing up early was a good idea. So, my Mom and I dropped in around 5 PM. Sat at...the bar. It was early. Met the staff. The chef came over and talked about some of the dishes. Sounded great. We were not disappointed. My Mom loved the calamari and the shrimp scampi. I asked the Chef to spice up my Frutti de Mare. De-lish. I would go back again. Big shout out to Dana, Christianna, Haley, and Chef Jonathan. Great experience. Thank you.More
