Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everything about this place is wonderful. Shame that these recipes are going to go by the wayside because of a greedy landlord. There aren't many places in Oakland to get good beer, let alone good food to boot. Fuel is an institution. I'll miss the...Bayou Blues sauce, the sweet potato fries, and the chipotle polka the most. Devastated but glad to finally review even though they'll be closed in a week.More

Enjoyed several meals at Fuel and Fuddle while visiting a patient at UPMC. Was not disappointed with any of the appetizer, entree, or beer selection that we tried. Service was great.

Ate here last night after the hockey game. The pizza was "meh". The toppings and flavor were good but too much burned crust on the bottom didn't make it enjoyable. The salad was great. Also, we got a fish sandwich and fries. The portion of...fish was very good, well battered and fried. Maybe too much bread/roll however for the amount of fish. It was all very well seasoned, just less roll would have been so much better. The place was very busy and pretty wild, but worth a second look on a future visit to the city.More

Ate supper here prior to concert at Petersen Center (2 blocks away). Packed to the rafters with patrons (got seated relatively quickly). Enjoyed the food. Plenty of food for the price. Would eat here again.

Cool atmosphere, laid back, relaxed, great service, drink selection is excellent and the food was incredible. My wife and I were ranting and raving about everything, even the little side salads we had were top notch (the balsamic dressing needs bottled and sold) the food...was fresh, and perfectly cooked. If you like a fried fish sandwich the Moby Dick is great, flaky fish and crispy batter. The pulled pork is perfect, tender, flavorful and not drowning in sauce. And the brownie dessert is unreal. Highly recommend. We live 2 hours away but would drive to the city just for this place.More

After two years, I finally made it back to Pittsburgh ... and found some interesting changes. Specifically, at some point during COVID it was decided to close off a section of Oakland Avenue to allow some restaurants to overflow out into the street. What a...great idea!!! And for this place, it definitely elevated the experience. As in the past, the food was always good (I went for a burger this time), but now you have the option to sit outside and avoid the energetic sounds from the inside. And the service was great too. I look forward to coming back and sampling more of the menu.More

We got a few sandwiches and the chicken quasadilla and they were huge! It took me a few days to eat my pulled pork sandwich. The sauce they sent was delicious but the pork was a little too spicy for me! Would order again!

We went for dinner here our first night in town as it was close to the hotel. We shared a little pizza and a steak wrap with fries. Both were very good. Our server was a bit forgetful but friendly enough. Popular place for the...nearby university students not too rowdy at the time we were there (8 pm).More

While the beer selection is good, the food leaves a lot to be desired. The pizza crust was good, but the toppings weren’t. Everything was just so-so. We won’t go back.

We visited Pittsburgh for a Water Polo event, and visited this location because they had a basement to seat the team and parents. But as the last five people arrived, they announced that they had no more room even though they DID have room but...didn’t want to add seats. So we split up and some of us ate upstairs. The food was OK but the beer selection was good. Poor management decision on the seating accommodations but at that point we were committed. On our way back to the hotel the next night, we stopped for a drink. Mind you, this was a group of professionals from Judges, to Attorneys, Architects, Engineers, and I only mention that for professional context. While standing in the bar area, the manager Megan said aloud “can you get your ass out of that mans face”. Literally, that was a quote from the Neanderthal. First, no one even knew that a table had been seated right behind us. Second, if the patron had a problem, they would have said something and we would have offered to buy them a drink out of decency. But instead, Megan the Manager decided to make herself look unprofessional, and even the bartender (who did a great job) was embarrassed, and everyone left. I would never visit that place again, nor will any of the parents or college students that were part of our group of 20. Places can’t survive on a beer list alone and I suspect this place will close if Megan remains the Manager. Invest your money wisely in other options, there are many much better in the area.More

Second visit to Pitt and wish I’d found this in the first trip. Great food selection—lots of things I’d order next time, including the apps. I don’t junk the menu linked here is complete, way more options on the real menu. BBQ sandwich was great,...mixed fries are a cool thing. A few local beers to choose from. Server was great, really enjoyed our evening there.More

Was spending the weekend with our granddaughter at Univ of Pittsburgh and took her out for dinner. Being a bar, it was very noisy, as expected. Didn't have a wait, which was a bit surprising for a Friday night. I had Cajun Rosemary's Breasts, which...could have been spicier. When I see Cajun on the menu, I expect it to be Cajun, but it wasn't very spicy. It was very tasty and a good size chicken breast. My wife had a plain burger and it was cooked just the way she likes it, as did our granddaughter. We all had a "huge" portion of French fires and sweet potato fries. They didn't skimp on them. Waitress was very friendly and provided excellent service.More

Ate at the bar on family weekend at Pitt. The place smelled of grease since they cook behind a counter in the main room. Food was ok, we both got sandwiches and had a beer. Not sure we'd go here again though. Seemed really busy...though.More

Most of my visits here are usually to fuel up either before a concert or before hitting the Natural History and/or Art Museum across the street, but, every once in a while, I'll stop on a random day. The food, beer, and service is consistently...good. Stay for a drink and barhop, or stay for an hour two; always a good time either way.More
