Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is really amazing with a great menu at reasonable prices. The place is neat, hygienic and the staff are extremely welcoming and great at service. One of the best for Indian cuisine!

I was visiting Pittsburgh for a concert and spent the morning/afternoon visiting the Carnegie Museums. I was looking for a place for lunch where I could relax for a little bit and charge my phone since I was staying at an airport hotel and would...be out all day/evening for the show. I was seated right away and ordered one of the lunch specials and samosas. The food was delicious and they were happy to accommodate me to sit by an outlet to plug my phone in while I ate. I always appreciate friendly service while traveling and would certainly return if in the area again.More

We ate at this restaurant about 17 years ago when it was called The Star of India. We specifically went looking for it on a recent visit to Pittsburgh. We knew the approximate location, and when we got inside we knew it was the right...place. The waitress told us she had been there for 30 years. She and the two waiters that checked on us were all very friendly, and the food was as good as we remember. If you are in Pittsburgh, in this area, you definitely need to stop in for lunch or dinner. They have fantastic food, generous portions, and staff who are great!More

Nice service, walls, and furniture. Unlike traditional Indian restaurants that cook the food for each dish together, this one cooks the meat, vegetables, and sauces separately and then mixes them up to serve. I don't think that is as tasty as cooking the whole dish....The vindaloo was tomato-pasty -- no subtlety. There is variety of sauces and Tandoori, but not the tens or more of actual subcontinental dishes that I've seen in many other cities. Fast. TV is in the bar and was not blaring - Yay!More

Got the Railway Lunch: small portion of a tasty lamb curry, very fresh small salad, rice, generous portion of naan. Quite good. Also had an interestingly spiced Darjeeling chai served hot in a juice-type glass (refills included). Quite good, and came out fast. Very friendly,...hospitable waiter. With tip bill came to $18. I would definitely eat here again, and try out some more of their interesting offerings.More

The 2 samosas were large and had a nice filling; they came with two sauces as expected. My main entree (chicken biryani) with a medium spice was hotter than I expected -- my lips were burning. The rita helped cool the lips. $19 plus tax...seemed like an average price these days. Service was average.More

Delicious meal. The atmosphere inside the restaurant isn't that great but definitely worth going for good Indian food. Or do takeout. Lunch is way less expensive.

Stopped by to try out a different Indian restaurant aside from our 'regular' places. Unfortunately our experience wasn't good and we regretted not going to one of our usual places. Pros: 1)Décor was inviting. 2) Owner was trying and seemed to care about and adjusted...the bill to accommodate for their shortcomings but we would not go back here. Cons 1) Ordered wine and it had gone bad (waiter mentioned that that bottle had been opened about 10 days ago) 2) Wait staff repeatedly forgot what items were ordered and needed reminding, as well as reminders for boxes to pack up our food and fill up on water. 3) When packing our food to go, I had asked the waiter if they had any clear plastic containers to take home a dish that had a lot of gravy. His response was 'well, I can't give you that, but you'll have to ask 'that lady over there' if you can get one. He then did not proceed to ask her or follow-up with us. 4) Our waiter was not professional, was not familiar with items on the menu and really shouldn't have been working here. We would not go back here and it's unfortunate that the service and quality was lacking as this is a prime location for a restaurant.More

I was in Pittsburgh visiting my son, a grad student at CMU. He spent the morning grading papers and was starved by 2:00 when he was done. We strolled down Craig Street (very near both CMU and U Pitt, and the Carnegie Museums) and decided...on Yuvi India. For $9.99 each, we feasted on 2 of the lunch specials which included a salad, a big cup of basmati rice, a bread, and the main dish. Too much food for me to finish, and satisfying for my son. Lunch ended at 3:00 before reopening for dinner at 5:00, I believe. I'll definitely go back on my next visit.More

We have been this place a few times. Modern , nice decor . Lunch more people , wait staff more attentive. Dinner only a few tables usally one waiter. Service ok. Odd at times. Once on a day it may rain , I took an...folded umbrella that was completely dry We were the only two people there , the waiter took my umbrella and place this outside the door despite I told him this the umbrella was dry there just in case , very strange behavior ! We come for goat in bone curry , tasty , chewy and we requested mildly spicy. . Always good . Add some India bread . For the sake of goat curry , we hope they stay open !More

A quick lunch a bit different from the usual hamburgers, hot dogs and ham & cheese sandwiches. I tried the Tandoori Lunch/Indian BBQ. Very tasty and worth trying again. A simple, convenient break from walking in the city.

We were hungry after a busy day and parked on Craig Street only to find that the kitchen was closed at our destination restaurant. We looked across the street and saw Yuva. It was still open and since we love Indian food, decided to give...it a try. We each had a glass of a delicious Shiraz wine with a bowl of chicken dhaba and garlic naan. The sauce was aromatic and deliciously spiced. We asked for hot and the heat level was perfect. The meal was served with a small fresh salad and a mound of rice. Oddly, the rice seemed to me to be Uncle Ben's Minute Rice. I haven't had that in years. The texture- to me- is recognizable. It was good but odd. The service was very good. The price a bit high but we will go back as we loved the dhaba.More

We had lunch here and the only comment I would make about it is that they use all chicken meat. In the UK I am used to having breast meat only. Wasn't a problem but though I'd mention it. Other than that a tasty curry...with good fresh naan bread.More

We were the only two in the restaurant for a majority of our meal. We didn't get there till close to 9pm on a Friday. Food was quite tasty and priced quite well. I would recommend to anyone looking for good food.

I placed a takeout order from Yuva through GrubHub. It said the order would be ready in 30 minutes and so I arrived 20 minutes after I ordered it, expecting to wait a few minutes after I found a parking spot (no easy feat on...S. Craig St.). When I got inside and told the lady at the counter that I was picking up a takeout order, she said they still had not received it. As I was calling GrubHub customer service, she "happened" to find it as I got through to an agent and rushed it to the kitchen. I asked the agent to look into it and admittedly the order failed to be delivered the first two times, whether due to a failing on GrubHub's part or Yuva's part, I do not know. However, it was confirmed that the order had made it through ten minutes earlier. At long last, when we had our food and made it home, we tried the food and were utterly disappointed. The samosas were poor compared to others I have had, a tough maneuver to pull off given they are usually frozen samosas anyhow. We also had bhaigan bhartha and kofta curry (known at authentic Indian places as malai kofta), both of which were a major disappointment. I have had malai kofta at many different Indian restaurants and this was the least flavorful I have ever experienced. The bhaigan bhartha, on the other hand, was charred so much that the smoke level nearly exceeded every Scotch in existence. We requested that both be made spicy and neither were. I will certainly never be going back. I highly recommend Taj Mahal on McKnight and Taste of India near the Children's Hospital if you want actually good Indian food.More
