Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I took colleagues and a special guest here for lunch. It was busy but there were plenty of tables available. The hostess was rude and as we were preparing our order, which we didn't seem to be doing fast enough for her. She took out...a bottle of cleaner and began cleaning the counter. She practically tossed the beverage at my guest. The food is OK. My guest said the potatoes were overly salted and I could see the salt on them so I have no doubt they were. Staff walks around like they don't care. The music is so loud that conversation was challenging at times. I would love to say I won't be back but It's the closest place to take a guest.More

Excellent all around! Restaurant was packed for Sunday morning brunch. We were called promptly when our table was ready. Friendly, quick service in a nice setting. Food was fantastic! Harvest Burrata salad was so delicious!

I’m a regular and a faculty member who often takes guests to The Porch. Had a lovely solo dinner up until the point that the chipped water glass cut my lip. I brought it to the servers attention who immediately notified the manager. The manger...Sam approached me and asked me if I was ok. I responded by saying “well, my lip is cut.” She asked if there was anything else she could do for me. The honest answer is…anything. I did not feel comfortable asking for a reduction of my bill or credit toward a future visit nor should I have to ask. This would be a basic accommodation in any restaurant. Waited around for about 10 more minutes to allow time to rethink the response. Nothing. Maybe lost an on-campus regular.More

Apparently it was “not that busy” during my visit, but it sure looked busy to me at 2pm! There were people waiting when I walked in! I sat at the bar since it was just me. All the food that came out of the kitchen...looked GOOD! I had a full view of the kitchen and server area. Place was clean. All I ordered was the Beef Dip for lunch. I liked that you had a choice between fried carbs or a salad side! It was my first visit even though I had lived in Pgh forever! I just don’t wander i to Oakland if I can help it because it is a college area so parking is at a minimum, mainly street! I would go back and try something else too!More

This place seems to be part of the University crowd. Quick service, friendly staff and good food. If you’re out on a walk, drop into this place. Worth the visit I.

There of us dined here two nights in a row. Salmon was excellent. So were the Brussel sprouts. They even made a good martini, which was a surprise for a university area place. Menu had a nice variety.

Lots of out door seating. Under a tent away from the actual porch. No dogs allowed. Won’t come back. Not pet friendly. Or even accommodating as it was raining, no other outside options available, sparsely seated with plenty of room to sit in the corner....Zero flexibility for an hour.More

I was dining alone and asked for an outdoor table. The hostess seated me outside at a small table in the corner against the restaurant, despite many available tables on the patio in the open air. i asked for one of those and she said...no. I could only have a small hightop table so i said okay. It took forever for my order to be taken. Ordered the NY strip steak, medium rare and asked a question about the menu description of airoli on the side, as i wasn't familiar with it. She snaps, "it's like mayonnaise". My food is brought and the steak was red raw meat from top to bottom. Outside layer was browned. I have never sent a steak back in my life, even when they have been over or under cooked a bit. I'm not hard to please. But i was not going to eat a raw piece of meat at the Porch. I had to flag her down after sitting for 10 minutes and asked for the steak to be cooked longer, medium rare. She said "Oh, so you really wanted a medium steak" looking at the uncooked steak. She takes it away and returns with my steak, which is now cooked all the way through with not an even hint of pink. Never checks on me at all or asked if the steak was okay. i just decided to eat it and get out of there. Nasty waitress then brings me a bill and i just gave her my card without looking at the bill since i did not want to wait forever for her to come back for my card. She returns with the bill for me to sign which shows a charge for two steaks. Ten minutes later she comes by and i point out the over charge on the bill, and she says oh i gave you the wrong bill, even though my name is on the slip. She returns with a correct bill and i paid and couldn't leave fast enough. Next day i look at by bank account and both charges are on my account...one charge for the double bill that i never signed for and one for the single bill that i signed. I did get that rectified. Just a terrible experience and to have a place hold it self out as upscale, but rude, untrained teenager is your server and an obviously inexperienced cook....or annoyed that i sent my raw meat back so he scorched it. Not a good experience, at least for me. Seems like a table for one is very frowned upon here. Won't return with my family for my husband's birthday dinner that i was planning after checking out the place on my own.More

We stopped here while walking to Phipps Conservatory and sat on patio overlooking the park. I enjoyed the smoked salmon wrap special. We just had to wait a bit longer than expected for our food.

Food was ok. As a single female business traveler, I am aware that I occasionally get treated differently. It was obvious here. I arrived early (5pm), asked to sit outside and was not given any of the open tables in the porch but seated by...myself under a tent, which was quickly filled up with large parties. It was loud and noisy. As for the food, it was ok but my side salad that was ordered never arrived.More

They had taters that were excellent. Also had...cocktails and beer. Good set up in a good spot right on campus at Pitt U. I herd this is where the students go with there parents. Good service. Clean. It seems like you never know what you are going to get while going out to eat these days. So many places are short staffed or everyone is still learning to do their job it is a coin flip how the dining experience goes. Well...our dining experience tonight was excellent at this restaurant. We started with the brussels sprouts and shrimp fritters for our appetizers and we could not decide which one was better. For our main dishes it ranged from the salmon to the beef dip and a few others in between. All meals were enjoyed. For dessert everyone shared the tiramisu and cheesecake. The foodies in our group were impressed. Our server was very attentive and the food was brought out at a good pace.More
