Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’m extremely disappointed in our Mother’s Day experience this evening. There are many great steakhouses in Pittsburgh to enjoy, and this is not one of them. Not only were the sides underwhelming but our waitress forgot to enter them so we didn’t get them until...after we finished our main course and nothing was offered for the inconvenience. Waited a long time for drink refills as well. There is a reason reservations are easy to get. Don’t waste your time and money.More

Horrible experience. Waited 30 minutes to get bread. Waited another 50 minutes for a seafood tower which was rubbery shrimp and lobster, unshucked oysters, uncracked crab (with no tools) and cold toasted bread. Yes, we ate it because it was $139. On the website they...listed $55.00, it was market price on the menu. Steak was OK but asparagus for $13 with raw garlic on it was disgusting. Our poor waiter did not demonstrate his ability to work in a high-end restaurant. He did not know the wine list and was unaware that he was expected to fill an empty glass if there was to be a generous tip in his future. It was amateur night and children could have done better. The manager offered apologies but nothing else. We provided feedback because he asked and he said that they were having staffing issues. We agreed and it showed. Avoid Sullivan's at all costs and go to Eddy V's, Eddie Merlots or a drive thru. We spent $400 for the evening for 2 and that was a waste of time and money. After giving feedback, the manager had the audacity to say see you next time. The place was very empty and now we know why.More

In town for hockey and went for dinner on a Sunday. Restaurant was empty for a Sunday. Nice atmosphere and great service. Ordered cheesesteak egg rolls, beef Wellington bits, filet mignon sure thing, wagyu bone in strip with Brussels sprouts & plenty of wine. Enjoyed...the food and service.More

Very friendly staff!!! Loved the ambiance. I wish the food were better . Drinks were perfect. The beef Wellington app was mushy and fatty The burger bun was super dry. The burger itself tasted great! You should always butter and toast a bun though Steak...was tender . Go with a filet . You can't go wrongMore

Selected restaurant because it is within walking distance to PPG Arena. Had dinner with friends. Service very slow; arrived at 5:30 because we had a 7:30 Rod Stewart concert at PPG. Did not arrive at concert until 8:00pm due to slow service. Food very average...to below average. The martinis we ordered, lemon and also blueberry lemon were delicious. Two of us had a wedge salad and unfortunately there were whole shrimp shells on our plates as if they were from someone else’s appetizer; yuck! The shrimp shells were certainly not a part of our salads! We made the waitress aware and she was appalled. We each ordered from the Pre Fix selections. I ordered the 6 oz filet and it was so tiny and not very tender. The dessert was a banana bread pudding and it was okay. The manager did come out to apologize about our salads and did take money off of our bill. For some reason they were not able to use my debit card, but I was able to use the same card the next day at Walmart! All in all a disappointment and will most likely not return.More

We came for happy hour but will probably never return. There were four of us; we ordered food from the happy hour menu. They brought the food for two of us; at least 15 minutes went by before they came back to tell us they...were out of one of the items and my meal was still not ready. Our friends were finished with their meal before our food arrived and magically, the item that was gone was served (with only 4 instead of 6 items). They did comp us with another appetizer. The drinks were ok, although the dirty martini was not cold and had too much salt on the rim.More

Stayed close by in downtown Pittsburgh. Went for dinner. Place was EMPTY on a Friday night at 5:30 which should have been a clue. Literally only 2 people at the bar and no one at tables. Appetizers ( Oscar Rockefeller) arrived cold. Sent them back...and again arrived luke warm. Bacon was basically raw and spinach was bland and barely warm. Told waitress to cancel our entree and left. Very sad for a name brand restaurant in a downtown area.More

Possibly the worst steakhouse meal ever! Arrived at the restaurant and a delivery guy was delivering pizzas! Girls at front desk were not real interested in seating us and when one of them was checking our coats her vape pen fell out of her pocket....Not a very professional staff. Definitely need some training. Oyster Rockefeller were just ok. Shrimp and lobster bisque was lukewarm. My husband’s steak and mashed potatoes came out cold. The only good thing was my crab stuffed shrimp was delicious. Still not real hot but good. Cheesecake was in pieces and looked like someone just dropped it on the plate. Kudos to the manager, Scott Watson. He came to our table to apologize and engage in a very nice conversation. He took my husband’s meal and dessert off of our bill. Not sure we will go back. Plenty of other better steakhouses in the city.More

Any time I see a one-star review of a restaurant I always read it with a grain of salt, because the reviewer usually had some type of personally bad experience (e.g., lost reservation, rude staff, bad meal, etc.). This place was a s$%%$$ show from...the minute we walked in the door, and checked virtually every box for me. Reservation for New Year's Eve was pointless. We should have known what we were in for when we walked in and saw about 20 very agitated people crowded around the hostess stand waiting to get seated. We were able to get two seats at the bar and glad we did - we sat for over an hour past our reservation time and gave up on a table. Decided to eat at the bar - another hour and fifteen minute wait for our food. The steak (which I assumed was going to be the highlight of the meal, considering we were at a steakhouse) was undercooked, fatty, and had virtually no seasoning. This restaurant was understaffed, disorganized, filthy, and had rude staff (with the exception of our very friendly (but exasperated) bartenders). I can't say enough bad things about this place, and would strongly encourage anyone considering a night out at a steak house to consider one of the other options in downtown Pittsburgh.More

The place had no heat. They knew the situation but management decided to keep the place open and keep their customers freezing …. Ignoring the fact that they will never see them again…That place should of been closed. We had to eat with heavy jackets…..And...spend over $150 per person. Our service was terrible. 30 minutes to get a drink. We had to go to the bar to get our own. We were in a hurry to go to a Steelers game but no luck with the service. Never ever again…. My husband and I went here for date night and thought it was awesome. Started in the bar for happy hour. The cocktails were truly amazing. And the bar staff was great. We also had the beef Wellington bites, which were delicious. Then we went...to the dining room for dinner. Our server was great and the atmosphere was too. The shrimp and lobster bisque was excellent. So was the Cajun ribeye. We will be coming back again!More

There are 7 steak restaurants in Pittsburgh... hopefully we have only 6 soon. From the time we arrived at the bar, I knew we were in for a real treat. The bartender/servers were fine, it was not their fault, but management has greatly failed to...train them. The steak, which was suppose to be a prime cut, was so tough we could not even cut it. I ordered a powerhouse and maybe had 6 bites. Our friends had steak and had the same issue. The lobster tail came out way undercooked. We sent it back and they sent the same one back but it looked like it was microwaved. To top it off, all the sides were served cold.More

Sullivan’s is the steakhouse on the ground floor of the landmark US Steel tower in downtown Pittsburgh. It’s a chain that competes against Capital Grille and Eddie V’s. Unfortunately, Sullivan’s was a complete swing and a miss. Wine list is mass-market grocery store brands at...very inflated prices even by restaurant prices. My glass of wine wasn’t brought out until after the appetizer arrived. The appetizer, a shrimp cocktail, was beyond pathetic. The four shrimp were served at room temperature on a bed of wilted iceberg lettuce. Zero effort made whatsoever at presentation. Capital Grille and Eddie V’s would serve on ice. The shrimp weren’t jumbo sized either. For the main course, I ordered the 6-ounce salmon from the signature lunch menu. The waitress said the chef recommends medium. So I went with medium. The salmon came out in a lemon-butter sauce and was cooked raw. Not even medium rare. The interior inside was pink and uncooked. Only the outside of the salmon looked cook. After one bite even the waitress recognized it wasn’t right. The replacement took 25 minutes. It was okay but by then I lost my appetite and just wanted to leave. Oddly, bread wasn’t served until halfway through my main course — the second iteration of the main course. It wasn’t just me. Some of the neighboring tables didn’t get bread until they were almost finished with their meals. Despite a spectacular location, everything about Sullivan’s was horrible. Outback would have been better. I will not return.More

Went to Sullivan's for the first time and have mixed reviews. The drinks were very good as was our server. We went on a Sunday evening so the place was all most empty, so I am not sure why they would have issues. My wife's...entry was luke warm and was supposed to have lump crab meat on her filet. It was not lump crab meat and the sauce was below average. My steak was OK, the shrimp stuffed with crab meat were cold and very small. Overall not very special for the $230.00 we spent. It was out 30th wedding anniversary and they were aware of this prior to our arrival. Their competitors, Hyde Park and Capital Grill have always offer a free dessert or glass of champagne when celebrating a special occasion. Sullivan's did not. Do not think we will be going back.More
