Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Typical Bavarian style German house, with all of the German specialties and then some. The food was great, with many choices. The beer was also great. The service was even better. Typical family style seating, which is also a fun change of pace. We'll go...back for sure, a really fun restaurant with the family. The accordion player was fantastic and got the crowd going!More

They also have an accordion player that plays a few nights a week. The waitresses dress as beer maids, but I'm not sure why the waiters don't wear lederhosen. I found the food creative. The reuben balls were even better than I hoped for. I...don't recall how the parking is because I walked there. I'm pretty sure there's a parking deck nearby. It was a nice area. They have indoor and outdoor seating.More

This a great place for German food, a nice ambiance, and great lagers! Thursday nights is College Night and it gets quite lively - but don't forget to make a reservation!

Our first time here. Very cool! Loved our waitress. Loved our beer. Loved our food. Old style German setting. Music was the cherry on top. Can't wait to go again. What a gem!

Food was great! We had pretzels, potato pancakes, wurstplatte, weiner schnitzle and a Bavarian cream puff. Our server Leslie was cordial, attentive, and swift! She made our meal a real pleasure!

This is an update to my last review in 2020. We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were able to make a reservation. There were plenty of seats at 5:00 pm. The food is good and is pretty authentic German food if...you've ever been to Munich where the original is. There are a lot of beer choices. Service was friendly and quick. They had a singer and accordion player who played the traditional toasts and tunes. People seemed to have a lot of fun, which was infectious. Prosit!More

Hofbrau in Pittsburgh has gone down hill since we were here last. Every time we've been here, which has been many times, I've mentioned to the waitresses and staff about things that could be improve, such as: men's room door on backwards, no paper towels,...no actual variety of German beers that are widely known in Germany. The house Dunkel, the only one here that's not pee water, has the stolen taste of Straub and is weak. I've told their biermaster about it in the past, but was only greeted with a stupid look in their eye. Where are the lady waitresses at that are in all of the pictures at the real Hobrau, dressed in a dirndl?? All we got were skinny dudes in checkered shirts with black pants n sneakers. Is this an attempt to pay homage to the Bayern colors or something? Well, Hofbrau Pittsburgh crossed the uncrossible line today on my wife and I's 14th anniversary; they've dumped their wide selection of closer ethnic foods and put burgers on it, then dumped the only thing I ever come to eat here, something that I ate daily in actual Germany; leberkase. Hofbrau Pittsburgh HAD leberkase with a fried egg on top, hot sauerkraut (in Bavaria, they eat it cold and it's not vinegar based btw), and red cabbage. The skinny dude waiter didn't even know what I was talking about. You'd think your waiter (should be a waitresses in a dirndl) would speak a little GERMAN in a GERMAN restaurant, or at least be privy to actual GERMAN food and bier and know what you're talking about. Way too expensive now, take a look at our simple bill! Also in Germany, you normally have 30 different choices of mustard, not 4, and it shouldn't cost $2 for a squirter of house mustard!!! Yes, just for this much in a little cup cost $2..... 🤯More

We stopped into Hofbraushaus on a whim later on a Sunday evening. We were seated right away, and our server was awesome.

Out of this world. Best German food I have ever had at a restaurant. My mother and I both loved everything about it. When I saw this place both my mom and I thought let’s try it. The second we walked in we know it...was the right choice. It felt like you were a bier Haus in Germany. Little pricy, but worth it. Glad we did not go to the Cheesecake Factory.More

If you like German food, I highly recommend this place. I went both times with my family of 7 and everyone enjoyed themselves. Only complements on the food. This is the second time I have been here and it did not disappoint. I had the...roasted pork shank with mashed potatoes the first time and the Munich sampler (jagerschnitzel, grilled bierwurst, and bratwurst, with german potato salad and imported sauerkraut the second time and they were all excellent. Good beer selections in huge mugs. Tables are picnic bench style. Service was outstanding. The restaurant was very clean for a big place with a lot of customers. Big parking garage down the street at reasonable rates. Get there early and walk down by the river. Can't wait to go back.More

when in Pittsburgh I try to get here for a meal and some drinks. As always , the food , drinks and servers were amazing. Sat out on the deck with a party of six, the waitress was attentive, pleasant and helpful. Refills came quickly...and food came out hot and exactly as expected, Delicious. It may not be Munich, but Pittsburgh definitely has a fun , tasty lil piece of Germany.More

The baked scalloped potatoes or Au Gratin potatoes were hard and warm. The entrees were warm too. One thing is good - Bavarian Cream Puff. Unfortunately, we will not come back.
