Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While walking downtown on my last day in Pittsburgh I allowed myself to be distracted by this little patisserie. The shop was busy but not crowded and one of the first things I noticed (besides the smells) were how happy everyone was. The atmosphere was...one of relaxed joviality, shared by customers and servers alike. We were greeted by a friendly worker and encouraged to try same samples (cinnamon rolls and a lemon dessert). We ended up getting the tarte aux framboises (raspberry tart), for just under $6. It was quite delicious and I was very pleased with the experience and just wished I had known about this place three days earlier.More

We went to get lunch to eat on the run. A coffee, sandwich and pastry. A great deal! Street parking can be challenging, but well worth the walk to the patisserie! I got the Turkey & cheese sandwich on baguette, and the raspberry macaron omg,...so good. Go, just go there! We will definitely be back on next visit to Pittsburgh.More

We went to this bakery after watching the video recommendations on YouTube. This bakery did not disappoint. They are experts in getting a good lift in croissant-like baking and in choux pastry. I highly recommend their almond croissants.

The baked goods are excellent but I strongly resent being asked to tip 20% to an assistant who has placed four croissants in a bag. If the staff need to beg for tips, the management are not paying them enough.

Was not expecting much as I always seem to be disappointed in bakeries. These are honestly the best baked goods I have had in a very long time! I Don’t remember what this was called in the attached photo but this could not have been...more moist and delicious! We had a few other things as well everyone of them delicious!More

I’ve been a customer for the last 5 year at the Lawrenceville location. There croissants are second to none. My favorite cinnamon rolls and raisin rolls are out of rotation. Waiting for their return.

Lovely selection. We go there often. Disappointed with the staff today - he added incorrect tip amount! Not cool dude.

I've been coming here since they opened over 15 years ago. The breads are good; the pastries (from croissants to special orders like tarte tatin) are fabulous. Please note: this isn't a restaurant. They often have sandwiches, and they carry coffee, but they are not...a cafe. You can't sit down, and the store is small. Mt Lebanon has had a branch for a few years, and I believe that there's a new shop in Hazelwood.More

Along the well-worn potholes on Cochran Rd, across from the Dollar General, down the hill from the prestigious Mt Lebanon High School, sits a quaint French bakery; which (like most Pittsburgh buildings) was upcycled from a vacant shell. The bakery in question is La Gourmandine....With locations in both Lawrenceville, Hazelwood, Downtown, and Mt Lebanon, it’s clear to see that the market for French cuisine has been steadily growing in various Pittsburgh neighborhoods these past few years. For good reason, as well; I mean, who doesn’t love flaky, light croissants for their Saturday brunch after a rough work week? I’m a huge sucker for pain au chocolats, or as we Americans call them “chocolate croissants”. It’s like a croissant with the upgrade of having a little piece of chocolate in the middle of it. It’s a win-win! I’m also a big fan of their Marquise, a pastry with chocolate mousse and sponge cake. If you’re looking for something more savory, I definitely recommend their quiches. I personally prefer the Lorraine, which has the bacon.More

I’ve been here 3 times now. I’ve had croissants, quiche, chouquette (like donut holes but much better), & Paris Brest (pastry puff with cream), and all are outstanding! It gets busy and the items can run out, so plan accordingly. Enjoy!

Very good French pastries and selections, it definitely beats the ones in the Washington DC area ! I also found Teisseire French Grenadine Syrup there and should have bought more!

They have lots of sweet and delicious options here. We got there around 11:30 on a Saturday, and the line was just about out the door. Some of the items were a little depleted, but we were able to snag some delicious treats before heading...out. I highly recommend the tiny chouquettes (little puff pastries), the mini-lemon pies and the apple tarts.More

This little bakery, knocked it out of the park. Sure , there are many things that made our quick weekend in Pittsburgh a blast, but the Almond Croissants are the best I’ve had anywhere. Exploding with almond flavor ( was that the eensiest bit of...almond glaze on top?) The bacon French loaf was remarkable as well as their little butter bites they offered to taste. This is is a “choose and go” place, not sit down. Very friendly, they know what they’re doing. On Butler St., which a lovely street to stroll, even in the rain.More
