We travelled down to Thredbo for the weekend to check out the beer festival and stayed at The House Of Ullr it is a very cosy place with a great view of the mountain and the staff are very welcoming and so helpful.
The Mad Mexican is on point with their food it's my favorite place to eat in Thredbo and with its new renovations it's second to none to dine at down here I highly recommend coming to see Aaron and his staff to stay and dine at The Mad Mexican trust me you will not be disappointed...
Cheers can't wait to come back down

I had one of the best experiences at The Mad Mexican over the weekend. I was one of the performers at Bluesfest and also a Celiac. My food options in the village were very limited until I found The Mad Mexican. Lots of delicious Gluten Free options I was in heaven I think I order one of everything and it was all good I highly recommend the Japanese Chicken soft tacos and the salmon tostadas. It was so great I came the next night and even though the kitchen was closed they made food for me knowing I had limited options elsewhere. I will recommend these guys far and wide for great food and drinks and kind funny and lovely service. Thank you for fuelling my weekend madness. Eat here is bloody great.

A must do!
Our waitress Sydney and the barman from WA we nothing short of amazing. Usually stickler for only classic margaritas…but these guys swayed me with a strawberry margarita! Who would’ve thought!?
Food wise- the’ tuna tostaditos’ is the pick of the menu. Well priced and easy eating. Buenos Dias! I will always be back.

Food was amazing - service was not.
Our entrees came before our drinks.
We also made clear when ordering that we would like entree before mains but everything came at the same time - before we had been served drinks also.
We asked for a wine list and the printer was broken so we had to go to the bar to find out which wines were available.
The kids meals came with ice cream which we had to ask for a dessert menu and no one came back to take our order. The kids still didn’t receive ice cream.
We would have ordered dessert for everyone and more drinks if the service had been better

Reviews on this site and previous experience of the restaurant by members of our party suggested we were in for a treat when we booked dinner. On arrival, we were treated by the barman as if our presence was an inconvenience, and that finding us a table (which we had booked) was a chore. The menu was absurdly limited with only a very small number of options, few of which resembled Mexican food. The special nachos were overcooked and lacking in any substantial flavour apart from a few slices of jalapeño. As part of our weekend in Thredbo, we dressed up and were looking forward to a special meal out at a highly recommended restaurant. Our experience could not have been more disappointing.

The smallest portions I’ve ever seen, kids meal would barely sustain a 2 year old. Maybe they got confused and some food slid off the plate but the adult serving was more akin to a kids meal. The taco, soft shell only, was bland and boring not that there was enough on the plate to really get a taste. I’ve eaten better Mexican in a food court and as for a Mexican restaurant only offering soft shell tacos, no burritos, no fajitas and no real flavor I’m amazed this place has any positive reviews at all.

We have just finished our meal at this restaurant, the service was extremely slack, the food was below standard, our meals took forever to be served. There was a complete lack of customer service from the staff, nor did they care or apologise for anything. Do yourselves a favour and don’t waste your money or time going to this restaurant.

We love Mexican food and based on previous reviews we were looking forward to a lovely meal for our first night in Thredbo. Unfortunately we found the food to be bland with very small serves. The tostadas were stale and the fish tacos were heavily battered rather than spice dusted and blackened as is usual. Service was fast and friendly but unfortunately this didn’t make up for the disappointing food.

Whilst the location for this restaurant is fabulous and the potential for a great experience is high, our meal was average and the service simply terrible - drinks trays left on the table, one meal missed, no cutlery/serviettes provided. I felt we were a hindrance to the wait staff. I hope this review results in a different experience for future guests.

Hi Natasha
We appreciate your feedback, but when you tell us every thing was great when it wasn't... we cant fix it. next time let the venue know your not happy before writing a bad review. Because the service we gave you & what you wrote we think are 2 different things.
Kind Regards

Healthy serving sizes, with some variety, for example, the Japanese Fried chicken has pickled ginger and fish roe, making it authentic and TASTY! The corn chips are proper blue, so that’s a win as well.
Normal Thredbo tax with price, but the Taco’s are loaded which helps. The cheeseburger taco should be called the sloppy joe, but was still nice.
Make sure you book online to ensure a table.
Good bar next to it, and the location is central.

We have eaten many times at the Mad Mexican and have always enjoyed it previously but not so much this time. We booked with friends. We booked for 8pm because not her times were available. From the minute we walked I the door they did not seem happy we were there. We wanted to order the jugs of margaritas we had had previously, sadly, no longer available. Now you get single glass for $21. The menu was limited. We had someone who couldn’t eat capsicum who literally could not eat anything there (and they would not even make a salad to accommodate). We had to ask for cutlery and a forgotten meal. We definitely were embarrassed we recommended our friends eat here. We won’t make this mistake again.

Good quality modern Mexican with fresh flavours and thankfully free or an excess of melted cheese. Pricey for what you get but it is on the mountain. Soft shell crab taco didn’t have much crab but the other tacos were excellent. Good selection of beer and wine. Nice ambience and fit out.

Went for dinner on Saturday 22 April which was their last day before a 6 week break before the winter season. It was a shocker. Limited menu and no beef for anything. We had corn chips and guacamole to start and most of the chips were broken pieces. Then we had four quesadillas which were the worst and least appetising we have had anywhere in Australia, the US or Mexico. The impression we were left with was that they were just running out of food on the last day and if the customers suffered then so be it. As my 11 year old grandson said after I paid the bill “Poppy, that was a rip off”. It was!

The best thing about Mad Mex is the experience of great tapas style Mexican food that you can share with friends.
Next is the tacos, each taco is paired to match the main ingredient to bring out the individual flavours. After choosing your fave - beef, pork, chicken or fish, Try the vegetarian taco for how creative Chef Jack truly is.
If you want spice add your own Tabasco or Habanero sauce.
Grab a Paloma and some starters to share, corn ribs, chilli lime chicken wings, pork quesadilla, sweet potato fries.. the one not to share and have all to yourself - Jalepeno Croquettes.
Finally one of my best experiences which I will do as my first thing when I get back to Thredbo is a glass of red and the Dulce de Leche tart
