We arrived in Thredbo on Friday afternoon and not having been here before we didn’t realise that almost all of the restaurants are booked out in advance. We stumbled across Berntis and made a booking due to limited options. I’m glad it worked out this way because the food was amazing!! Husband had the Wagyu steak and I had the chilli prawn linguine. Entrees we had the duck spring rolls and garlic bread. Husband said best steak he had eaten in years. Service was great, our waiter was attentive and helpful. Nice view tucked away towards the bottom of the village, great mix of 80’s and 90’s music at the right volume to not be offensive for dinner. We went early so it was happy hour which also meant hubby could try a few different beers for a decent price. Only disappointing part for me was the limited options of desserts. Originally we had thought we would have the Zacks grill dessert menu but being summer that section wasn’t open. Would definitely recommend!!

Lovely spot for a casual meal with a view. The waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My hubby likes his steak cooked well done (sacrilege I know), but the young man attending to us steered him towards the wagyu instead, which is cooked medium-rare. It was sensational ! And the beef ribs/kimchi/slaw with bau buns, OMG just SUPERB. Would love to return someday.

Delicious, good quality meals

Really enjoyed our meal here. We were initially disappointed that our first choice wasn’t available (the restaurant had run out of pork ribs) but our second choices didn’t disappoint! Definitely the best quality restaurant in Thredbo village, with good service and a great view of the mountain. Highly recommend!

Terrible service and food

We dined here on a quiet night nice Decor and feel however staff are clueless and rude. We ordered the Thai green curry and was honestly terrible had no flavour just tasted like chilli when we bought this up with staff she said oh just share the other meal than. Didn’t offer any alternative or solution, she came back to clear the table and saw we did not touch the curry and said again I hope you shared the other meal, why would someone order 2 meals just to share 1??? No compensation offered the girl didn’t want to talk she just wanted our money very disappointed and will not be returning or recommending

My review for this restaurant is a mixed bag. The food is very good and on the most part the staff are all friendly and create a great atmosphere. However we were a table of 8 and only 7 of us received our meals. On two occasions I asked the staff where the other meal was and on both times was advised that they would look into it. Zac the Owner (I assume) came over to the table and advised that it would be another 5 minutes. Note by this time the rest of the group had already had their meals for at least 10-15 minutes. The following conversation still leaves me flabbergasted. I said to Zac that I thought it was very poor that everyone at the table was eating bar one person. This was not said aggressively or rudely. Zac replied "their is 50 other people in this restaurant and that we were not the only people here". A friend dining with us turned to Zac and said no mate I'm not copping that, this is a restaurant and you serve all guests at the table together. (I will add that my friend was raising his voice as the previous comment from Zac had already left a bad taste). Zac looked at my friend and said "You are F##king lucky you have a reservation and are eating here". Honestly I still can't believe that that is how he speaks to his guests. The female manager came over and explained there had been a mix up in the kitchen and the meal had gone to another table. No problem these things happen but had Zac just said that in the first place this review would be completely different. The total lack of respect for other people and not to mention we had an 8 year old sitting at the table with us leaves very little to be desired from Zac.

Hope Berntis improves staff training.

Having issues with this restaurant despite telling waitress no chill or red pepper, steak came with both. Even customers at table next to us said “we heard you say no chill or peppers” staff said next time put it on your booking. Now my friend is going to have tummy issues for the next day or possibly two. This issue has put a dark cloud on our beautifully cooked meal. Won’t be returning anytime soon. I enjoyed the eggplant entree and my kids the steak. The chef went out of his way getting truffle oil and Parmesan for our fries. Lack of communication between staff and kitchen has let this meal down. Guess we’ll just get over it.

Wanted to really like this place. We booked this place for a birthday dinner and thought it would be nice, but boy we were wrong. Everything was overcooked. The worst being the $110 steak my partner asked for to be cooked medium/rare ,it came out well done and tasted terrible. I ordered the cutlets, each one had a different level of being cooked one rare and two others well done. For desert we had the cookie dough dumpling which ended up being burnt chocolate in a spring roll. im still wondering were the dumplings and cookie dough went? This dish was very misleading. The waitress emma was amazing . But we won't be back just for her service.

Overpriced for what you get

It wasn’t dreadful, but I just couldn’t justify going back there for average (or bad food) at such high prices. I had a very average prawn linguine for over $50 (prawns were good but the taste was a bit bland). The three pork rib meals our table ordered (over $60 each) were all extremely chewy which the kitchen apologised for. We were offered a couple free entrees which went some way to making up for it although they are only about a third of the price of the meal they’re replacing so I wasn’t that impressed with the gesture. The chocolate lava cake was nice but super light on ‘lava’. Seems like the kitchen generally has a problem with overcooking food. However - the hanger steak and beef ribs were great! Final surprise was that in addition to the weekend surcharge, we were also charged a card surcharge when cash isn’t accepted. 🤨 Service was great though, and we liked all the servers, especially the female supervisor who was very professional.

Staff were a no show so we left without eating

My husband and I had an 8pm booking at Berntis restaurant. We were there also the previous evening and had such a lovely time and meal we booked again for the following night. What a disappointment that turned out to be. We waited half an hour and not one person came up to serve us, I think the staff must have forgotten we were there. So we just left and because it was a late booking we were unable to have dinner last night. When we left and paid for the one beer my husband had we were told it had been very busy. Sorry, but that’s not a good enough excuse to leave your customers sitting at a table for half an hour without at least taking their order. While the food and outlook is lovely the service leaves a lot to be desired. We are both very disappointed in this experience.

Awful- simply avoid

Awful Experience. The food quality, coupled with its overpriced nature, left much to be desired. Despite the high prices, the dishes lacked the expected standard, which was disappointing. Service was noticeably slow, hinting at a lack of preparedness for the Ultra Marathon Weekend. Some of our food was forgotten and mains took over an hour and a half to appear. Moreover, pricing the ribs at $60 in a setting that doesn't boast fine dining attributes is simply outrageous. The uninviting behaviour of the manager overshadowed any potential positives, making us feel unwelcome. It was apparent that his limited skills in handling busy nights significantly impacted the overall dining experience. He was simply rude not flustered. For a more pleasant and reasonably priced meal, the Mexican restaurant next door offers a far more enjoyable dining atmosphere.

Honestly one of the worst dining experiences we ve had in many years. It was almost comical, if it had not been the for the hefty bill and the wasted opportunity to go elsewhere for our final night in Thredbo. Our arrival was met with staff who completely ignored us then pointed towards a table that I’d booked weeks before, after reading positive reviews. The food was average - don’t bother with the garlic prawns swimming in a pool of tasteless cream. The ‘sourdough’ it claims to accompany it is nothing more than dinner roll from a ‘cook your own’ section from coles. Our kids selected pasta from the kids menu, which included a soft drink and an ice cream. Restaurant tried to charge us for the drinks and never cleared our dirty plates, get the kids their dessert or ask if we d like another drink. I ended up just hot footing it to the bar and requesting to pay. There are some fabulous places to eat with wonderful staff in Thredbo. Sadly Bernti’s isn’t one of them.

extremely poor experience

Overall an extremely poor experience. Initially we were told a few menu items unavailable before ordering. Then when we ordered we were told the kitchen declined to cook the tomahawk steak as we had a late sitting and it took 1-1.5hours to cook. A few minutes after we had ordered the waitress returned to tell us several more menu items that we had ordered were unavailable. We were then served a wrong order by a waiter. When we gave it back to the waitress she told us since it had already been put down on our table she couldn't take it to the other table so she may as well leave it there. After the dish was sitting on our table for a few minutes with us all talking and reaching over it the waiter came back and took it. When the waitress told him he couldn't take it as it's on our table. He said "yes, we can" and directly put on another table. Finally, when the bill came we had been overcharged about $300. After The manager corrected the bill and I paid for it all he said was "do you need a receipt?" Before I left the restaurant I said to the manager "you really should apologize", he asked why he should apologize when the reason they gave us the bill was for us to check so they could fix it. The manager only apologized when my son reminded him that taking a dish sitting on our table for several minutes before giving it to other customers directly was a very wrong thing to do, especially during Covid.

Amazing Weekend!

We ate at Berntis and enjoyed the experience so much we returned the next night! The Calamari and 250gm ribeye were standout dishes along with one of the best spicy margaritas ive layed my lips upon . all though quite expensive once the food came we understood why, it was extremely busy, but the staff seemed to work like a well oiled machine both nights! hats off the the bar staff and manager Si you made our weekend and we will definitely be back!!!

We were in Thredbo to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday and we chose to eat at Bernti’s restaurant. I’m an oldish lady so I can’t eat too many calories so I ordered the tofu plate and my husband ordered a steak. He was drinking beer so asked for some bread to buffer the alcohol while we waited for the mains. The beer and bread came out promptly and we waited over half an hour for the mains until I finally asked for our food. After a further ten minutes, our food finally was served. My husband’s steak was perfectly done and he loved it but my tofu dish was awful. It looked like it had been cooking on the grill for all the 40 minutes. It was strange because the table next to us came in after us and was given two courses before I had any food at all. The main waiter tried to make it right, he offered me other food, drinks, dessert free of charge, but I was so hangry that it was a very negative experience. I’m still upset two days later in part because i couldn’t sleep I was so hungry. The restaurant seems set up to serve food a man would like but not what a light eater would like. My advice would be to hunt down the waiter after fifteen minutes and make sure that your food is coming—don’t wait patiently.

Overpriced but nice

Service was impeccable - thanks. Food was good, not fantastic, but good Extremely overpriced for what it is. 150g steak $59 to $330 for a Tomahawk. Really?? $450 for 5 mains, 2 desserts, I large bottle of sparkling water and a non-alcoholic beer. It was an enjoyable evening. Would I return? Not until the pricing was more realistic. I am fully aware that Thredbo is expensive, but it is Thredbo, not Aspen.
