About
Our restaurant is a reflection of Rick's passion for seafood and the coastal lifestyle which he has enjoyed for most of his life. As Rick says: "nothing is so exhilarating as fresh fish, simply cooked". He believes that fresh seafood should speak for itself. While he enjoys occasional fine dining, his food is much more about what he really likes to eat: a plate of Clyde River oysters, a pot of Illawarra prawns with mayonnaise, a mound of spanner crab, a slice of blue eye or a perfectly grilled sand whiting. We like our service to be informal but observant and we have a local team who will greet you with a warm, genuine welcome.

Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy the food. Was looking forward to something special but got average. Didn’t finish one of our mains as lacked flavour.

30 years wedding anniversary, First all upon arrival on time at the restaurant, we were told to wait in a holding area, in my book not professional for a what i call an up market restaurant, after a short wait we were shown to our...table, order a pre dinner drink, waited for a while no problems, then lady i thought was a lady in charge came to take our orders, i asked the lady that on line it was advertised asJervis bay mussels as an entree, if it was available and was told no because they did not order enough so it was not available and it was served only with the seafood soup or the seafood linguini, now the restaurant was quite full last night, don't you think being a local produce they would of made sure there was available stock, anyway i ordered the sashimi instead and my wife ordered the octopus as entrees, my sashimi was warm, felt like not being fresh and my wife octopus was so small two bites and it was gone, we ordered snapper for myself and seafood linguini for my wife, when it arrived my wife linguini looked great and a good size meal and then mine the snapper looked i must say not appetizing at all ,small piece very pale looking served on a small bed of spinach, maybe a crispy skin would of looked better, the taste was fine but not exceptional as you expect for a restaurant with that reputation and price tag, sorry but being a local and having dined in a lot of local restaurants it was well below par, sorry but i will not be back and will not recommended this restaurant to anyone. p.s there was a young English lady who looked after us and she was greatMore

Went to this restaurant whilst staying at Soldiers Point (5 minutes by car). We went with my sister and brother in law. It was an amazing setting, not far from the sea and beautiful restaurant. However, the food was OK but not what I would...have expected from this chef. My sister and I had the fish stew, which would have been great had it not been for the chef leaving the gritty vein on the prawn, which made for a gritty soup at the bottom of the bowl. I queried this with the server and he went back to the kitchen and returned to say they apologised for this error and would give us free desserts as a compensation. My husband and brother in law also had fish courses but with pasta, which were fine. The desserts were pleasant enough, maybe I was expecting too much. It was an expensive meal and I have had better quality for less.More

We had been meaning to eat here for years, and when we finally got here we enjoyed our lunch. The food was good, the staff were friendly, and were very helpful (for example adjusting the air conditioning, which was too cool). It was a pricey...meal, probably a bit too pricey, but the view is lovely and the location good. We walked out the front afterwards and discovered a lovely little cove. At the back is a suburban housing estate; it's a bit of a surprise to find the restaurant in such a setting! Definitely worth a try if you can afford it, for a special occasion.More

Very disappointing and didn’t live up to expectations especially compared to other franchises we’ve visited and the fabulous celebratory meal we had in Padstow. Food was mediocre and it seems bannisters is trading on the Rick Stein brand without the experience or quality to back...it up. I gave feedback on my main course which had a sauce that was overcooked and oily and completely overwhelmed the fish which was well cooked. Side beans which are pricey came out a while after the mains. Permanent manager was off and the stand in didn’t seem too bothered at all in-spite of our waitress’s best efforts. She took off water and coffee off our bill which were the only things that were ok. I rarely leave a review but if you can’t manage feedback at that standard of restaurant, it’s a poor show. Summary - your money is probably better spent elsewhere.More

My recent dining experience at Rick Stein's restaurant in Australia was pleasant overall, but it fell slightly below expectations. The flavors of the food were generally good, especially the sashimi made with local fishes, which was amazing. However, the barbequed Nelson Bay Octopus starter was...overcooked and rubbery, not up to the standard expected from a seafood restaurant. When we mentioned this to the waitress, we didn't receive any acknowledgment. The main course, particularly the Steamed Whole snapper fish dish was perfectly cooked and tasty by it was overshadowed by excessive soy sauce, giving it more of a soup-like consistency. Additionally, although it's a seafood restaurant, my husband opted for the Riverina Scottish fillet Steak, which unfortunately was only average in quality. Overall, while the experience was enjoyable, there is room for improvement to fully meet expectations.More

Absolutely gorgeous the food was excellent with a good choice of menu. All of the staff were excellent and the beer and wine selection good. We had our meal as part of our booking which gave us a 2 course meal. Sadly no room left...for dessert. The meal did not include sides. Which is strange as would have just had the main meal did not include anything else. Minor issue though as really enjoyed our night. The setting is beautiful but I would liked to have seen table clothes on the tables to make it feel special. As it’s the same room we had breakfast in. Maybe that’s just a UK thing.More

I had the lobster thermidor which was amazing and my husband enjoyed very much his prawn and...lobster pie . Not cheap but worth it .More

The venue is delightful being bang on the sparkling waters edge. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Where it disappoints is the seafood and quality of some produce. The billed ‘freshly shucked’ oysters were clearly not freshly shucked lacking oyster liquor. The garden salad with...brown tipped lettuce leaves was lacklustre. The fish cake entree was a remarkably meagre serving. Fresh sourdough bread is doled out by the slice which is strange as it’s served with two ample pots of butter. The sashimi seafood included sludgy sea urchin, falling well short of the hoped for ‘slippery yet creamy, buttery texture with a fresh salty seafood flavour & clean finish’.More

Wonderful evening with excellent seafood and attentive service in the beautiful location of Bannisters at Mollymook. The only drawback was the price (very expensive for what is quite a casual restaurant) for a very limited menu selection. If you love freshly shucked oysters and scallops...order those: they were the standout. Wine list very good, and service was excellent.More

The cooking here has been recently sneered at by one national reviewer as having become "overipe". However this high end dining room is delivering ANYTHING but 'past tense'..in fact the room itself PLUS the finely-wrought kitchen work, combine to posses many many desirable traits missing...from newer players who may be more likely to play with dubious ideas of fusion in a musically over-loud and unrefined atmosphere for an even higher pricepoint. We dined on two consecutive nights finding the menu changes daily -- happily noting in fact it was reflecting the local catch. How good is that ! I picked up a few of Rick Stein's published recipes I'd known about being staged--& one starter in particular I was utterly delighted with >> the thickly-sliced Ulladalla fresh-caught tuna sashimi slices briefly marinated in a passionfuit & lime dressing. Nothing ripe about (nor even vaguely dated) about THAT dish! Huh! Two different types of stunning oysters (local of course !) as starter were a joy on night one ! ...but my husband's marvelously-handled snapper filet + greens, together with my seared tuna on the same first night that were delivered to me on a bed of shaved fennel with sliced beans were both simply ..masterful. Its true this was absolutely unremarkable cooking at one level..but it displayed classic kitchen techniques, respectfulness of superior products with just that edge of the combination of seasoning & presentation to make it so delightful it was ...near flawless. The second night's variations we chose were no less beautiful to eat & enjoy ... given the quality & consistency it only remains to quibble about a few irritating lapses in service & maddening lack of attention to detail such as empty pepper grinders (BOTH evenings!) & water refills being consistently achieved..not hanging offences. But they always let the side down, don't they? The dining room itself is an utterly delightful space with appropriate seaside decorations that mercifully avoid all the usual ID cliches. Highly Recommended.More

The dishes lacked flavour. The mains seafood curry was quite bland and the chicken dry, The entree soup was not what I expected either. Rather watery and the side accompaniments brought out separately without explanation. I expected more from Rick Stein, my favorite celebrity chef...ever! Better food and value at Mollymook Golf course bistro.More

Magical location, our room was beautifully furnished with natural fibres and colours, very understated with much flare. We dined in both The Pool bar and Rick Steins restaurant. The food in both locations was perfect. The staff were very helpful and all very friendly. A...small lift would be appreciated to access the downstairs pool bar area as well as a wheelchair access bathroom in main restaurant. Small additions that would make a huge difference in the lives of some guests. Just a beautiful location with a very casual and relaxed ambience. Thank youMore
