In the lounge with access to both the “Happy Hour” and the restaurant menus. We ordered from both. The house-selected wines were excellent (and a bargain); the Clam chowder, crab cake, salad, ceviche and fries - ditto. We’ll be back.

My girlfriend and I went to dinner at King Tide, as well as breakfast the next morning. We stayed at the adjoining hotel and were glad to find that this restaurant is much better than several other experiences we've had where any given restaurant is attached to a hotel.
We arrived at about 6pm on a Tuesday and were shocked to find that the restaurant was extremely busy-not a table to be had. MAKE A RESERVATION! We sat at the bar for dinner instead.
We ordered oysters, ceviche, the bread, and another dish or two so we could split everything. Everything was delicious even though it was quite pricey. The service was a bit slow, but I do not hold that against the restaurant since they told us up front that they were short-staffed and it was clear that the bartender and all servers were working hard. I would definitely return if I'm in Portland again.

Wesley our server was friendly and extremely accommodating. He was able to modify a dish to my wife's liking. Wesley also brought a extra bottle of water to our table because the 🍸 cocktail she had was spicy hot. As for menu and food, we thought there would be more seafood choices. The ceviche was very good and when asked Wesley brought more plantain chips. My brined pork chop 🥩 was moist and tasty. My wife enjoyed her seafood risotto, but thought it was average tasting. The chocolate mochi cake was good, but we liked the toasted marshmallow ice cream 🍨 better.

I booked a table for five at this place about a week prior to my trip. I was given the option of an outdoor table or indoor table. I chose outdoor because it's by the river and because my family is still not really eating inside at restaurants but outside whenever we can. We got to the restaurant about an hour early and checked with the hostess to see if they could seat us early. She couldn't but she was very nice. She said we could sit outside. And that we could get drinks at the bar and take them outside. We let her know that our reservation was for 7:15 and that it was for outside. She said okay and that she would let us know when our table was ready. At 7:10 my husband went inside and she said yes your table's ready it's inside I don't have a table big enough for five outside. Why was I able to book a reservation for a party of 5 outside if they don't serve parties of five outside? But what was more frustrating is that we sat there for an hour because when we told the hostess that we had a reservation for 5 for outside for a little later she said okay. She did not say I'm sorry we won't be able to seat you outside at the time. If only she had said that we would have been able to decide whether or not we were comfortable eating inside and wanted to eat inside given that it was a nice night and outside is by the river or if we wanted to find somewhere else. Instead we sat there for an hour and ended up not being able to eat there because not only did they give us a table inside and tell us that they absolutely couldn't seat five people outside they gave us the worst table in the restaurant. My family and I are all very careful to treat restaurant staff properly because we realized that often people are short with them and nasty with them. At no time was there any contention and the hostess was polite it was more the lack of efficiency than anything else and the blatant disregard for the type of reservation that we made. I will say however that the bartender who served us the drinks that we ordered to take outside was absolutely amazing unfortunately we didn't catch her name but she was seriously one of the best bartenders I've ever had. In the end we decided to leave before ordering any food because our table was crowded and uncomfortable and right by the door which meant everyone coming in was not just walking past us but literally shimmying past us. It was almost like they stuck a table there because they needed a table for a larger group. I wouldn't bother with this place.

First the positive; Our reservation and request for an outdoor seat were fulfilled, and we were promptly seated; the outdoor seating offers a nice views; the raw oysters, as you would expect in Oregon, were fresh and tasty; the seafood in the entrees we ordered were nicely prepared and not overcooked. The negatives: We did not receive our first glass of wine and oyster appetizers until 30 minutes after we were seated, plus they did not deliver oyster forks with our oysters; they were out of our first wine choice (bottle), so we went with wine-by-the-glass; our table was cheap and wobbly; my risotto was too salty and bland, however the seafood it contained was very good; the prices were too high for the food, drink, and service provided. I guess we were paying for the nice view. We would not go back if we visit Portland again.

Restaurant inside the Riverplace Hotel
so we decided to give it a go
Smallish dining and bar with a large patio overlooking Tom McCall park and the Willamette river
Not a complicated menu but focus on seafood…. we decided on spring risotto and mussels with a local brew, wine
Portions were quite small , the spring risotto was brussel sprouts and sweet potato (hardy spring since asparagus is fresh right now). the mussels were fresh delicious but covered in a pile of fries ….. all tasty but lacking in presentation
Service was a bit off as well having to get our waiters attention a couple of times
Will be dining elsewhere tonight

We are regulars at the hotel and eat here often. The food is excellent. We've never had a disappointing dish. We highly recommend the Seafood Risotto and the Grilled Branzino for dinner, but any of their seafood dishes are outstanding. You can't go wrong with their seasonal starters either. Try the farm tomatoes when they are on the menu. You won't be sorry.
But the food is only part of what makes this place special to us. Most recently, I was in PDX for serious eye surgery and couldn't risk being exposed to viruses. Even though it was cold outside (mid-November) and the restaurant wasn't serving outside tables, Christopher went out of his way to set up an outside table for us with a heater and blankets. He makes us feel like family. That's the kind of treatment this place offers. And he's not alone. Sarah has always been equally friendly and helpful. They know how to choose good staff.

Stopped here because of the reviews. Almost turned around because it was in a hotel. I am glad we didn’t as it turned out to be one of the best seafood dinners we had ever had. The chef makes tons of fresh sauces that are stellar. The food was cooked superbly, the Octopus was some of the most succulent and tender I have ever had and the squid ink chip was it was awesome, we wish we had a basket of them. The bartender was new and a didn’t quiet know the menu; however, the chef came out and was a joy to talk with. The place wasn’t packed and it should be. Highly recommended.

We were in the mood for a seafood-centric brunch. Shame on me for obviously not looking at the Sunday menu for what is claimed to be an awesome seafood restaurant in Portland. The only seafood we could get at 11 AM on a Sunday was Eggs Benedict with a small amount of Lox Smoked Salmon. No other seafood on the menu. Bummed. But I'm still giving it 4 stars as the location near the river is great and outdoor seating is plentiful if not too cold or too hot and food was good but pretty hard to screw up breakfast food.

I don't understand the good reviews, which I think are why our host chose this restaurant. Its in a hotel. The restaurant seating area is small and rather tight. The menu is mall and there were very few fish or seafood items. Way over priced. Even the dessert was disappointing. And it is hard to reach if you don't have a car.

We have gone to King Tide many times but went today and it has really declined in quality. The menu is nothing like it was earlier, very short menu with very very few options, we considered getting up and going away but decided to remain. The food we got was OK but not great. Something bad has happened to this restaurant and we are not going back.

We went here specifically because my daughter wanted an Acai bowl for breakfast and it was close to our hotel. Her Acai bowl was okay but the rest of us enjoyed our food immensely. Nothing too fancy just well done and delicious. We were there on a weekday morning and it was dead inside so our food came super fast. Service was great, the server knew a lot about the menu so we could make a choice based on our dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy).

Outstanding service and food. Stephanie, Sarah and food manager Liza were all outstanding. The employees care about their guests and about the service. The food (one of us ordered Branzino dinner and one ordered prime rib) was delicious. We will return. And hotel that the restaurant is part of (Kimpton RiverPlace) is first class all the way.

Four couples dined here. We had a great waitress that was the highlight. The food was not bad but definitely not great for the price. The oysters were outstanding as well as the calamari. The tiramisu was horrible and the worst presentation and taste of this dish I have ever had. I guess my complaint was not good enough for a credit as one of our group did receive this for the tiramisu. They also do. It take more than three credit cards per table! He craft beer was good but I would never return.

While visiting Portland, had a wonderful lunch at King Tide Fish & Shell. The avocado toast was so much more than avocado toast! The grilled oyster mushrooms were a wonderful addition to this vegetarian entree. And the soft brioche bun stepped up the fried chicken sandwich. It's just the little ways the food is uplifted that made a difference... Plus, you can't beat the outdoor seating, with a view of the river!
