Had to wait one hour for our lunch. Two meals were ok. One roast not cooked properly so could only eat the vegetables. Disappointing. Waiters were polite and friendly.

The bat & Ball has been my go-to pub for nearly 20 years and I've recommended it to dozens of other people for the consistently good guest list of ales, great food and friendly efficient service. We visited a couple of times last year and...found them coping brilliantly with the Covid restrictions. Last night was like being in a different pub though. They clearly have a new batch of staff, and badly need to invest some time in training and supporting them - simple things like where to find the menus for different dietary needs, how to put a food order through the till, how to run and close a tab and what condiments/cutlery etc go on a table should all be covered before they go anywhere near customers. And ALL staff - especially the more experienced ones - need reminding of the golden rules of customer service. Make like a swan, keep smiling, and if there's any chaos or mistakes keep it to the back room out of sight and earshot of your paying customers! Listening to loud conversations across the empty bar, customers being dissed for returning incorrect orders and the supervisor dressing down new untrained staff for making mistakes all contributed to a stressful dining experience and we left as soon as we'd finished our main meals. Please sort your menus out too - I had to guess what was vegan from comparing the Vegetarian and Dairy free menus! I really hope this was a glitch and not a sign of a lasting change in vibes because I really love this pub.More

Have been enjoying the B&B for 12+ years and have never bothered to try anywhere else! Last 3 visits though have been very disappointing. Tonight’s experience: Even before arriving, the phone booking process seemed to take >5 minutes. After being sat at the table for...20 minutes, I went in and inquired as to where our drinks were: the order had not even been started! When it finally arrived, 2 of the 6 drinks were wrong. I appreciate these are not normal times, but more training of the [new] staff is clearly required, allowing the pub back to where it used to be. We’re going to give the Spotted Cow a try.More

The Bat and Ball has been our favourite pub for ages be it the Tuesday Quiz or just a place to go for a nice meal / drink with friends. This pub has a lovely garden for summer and a warm interior for winter. The...perfect place for food or trying local ales. Have yet to find anywhere that competes with great staff and classic English pub food.More

Had lunch today with some friends. The service was so slow. We waited well over an hour for our food and even then they forgot our son's chips which I had to ask for twice. We would have ordered puddings as the food was nice...but we wanted to get out before nightfall. This is the second meal we have had there where we had to wait a long time for. Won't be going back in a hurry.More

I dined here with my family yesterday. We were 4 adults and 3 children. We chose the pub due to its more rural location, a bit more hidden away from crowds. Booking was nice and easy and our table was under the canopy. We felt...nicely distanced from other diners and the one way system implemented for using the toilets was really effective. There was a slight mistake with the kids' food orders but the staff admitted fault and quickly resolved it. We all enjoyed our meals, the roast dinners were particularly nice and reasonably priced. I would recommend the Bat and Ball.More

First visit to this pub ever. Totally hidden away a lovely little place. Food was lovely but service was very slow last night we had to ask a couple of times for things. Staff were friendly and nice.

Its hard to break a good habit, so a couple of evenings before 'lockdown', we ventured down, along the path through the woodlands, across the stream - and there it was , light up and wonderful !. The hospitality was as good as ever ,...wonderful to have a couple of pints, in an atmosphere full of cheer, and history.More

We have just had a takeaway tonight which was really nice. Ordered the scampi (recommended) and chicken goujons (kids meal). Both were very large portions and we were very full after. They do take away beer aswell which was a bonus! Collection was very covid...secure. We shall definitely order again!More
