Saturday dinner for two

Dinner for two on a Saturday evening. If you want white linen, silver utensils, waitstaff in livery and a sommelier with a cummerbund this is not the place. If you want to eat good food, drink good wine and engage in some actual conversation with the hosts then this is the right place. Enjoyed the friendly and efficient atmosphere and paid the bill with a smile and a bit of a chuckle.

Hahaha! We've never had anyone put in their review that they paid the bill with either a smile or a bit of a chuckle - and you did both! I think that's a good sign! Thanks for your entertaining review. We like to think of ourselves as 'professional, but not stuffy'. In fact, the Ocean Ended trifecta that we aim for is 'stunning views, outstanding coastal cuisine and memorable service'. We start with a warm welcome and build from there. Good views and great service

We visited Ocean Ended for dinner with a group of friends in search of a good experience. We were warmly welcomed and introduced to various staff members. Let me say at the outset we have rarely encountered such high quality service. It was totally unobtrusive but every time we wanted something a staff member was there to happily help. I started with the twice cooked crab soufflé. While it was was a delicious soufflé, I think they forgot to put the crab in it. Others noted the same, but again it was delicious. For mains I ordered the free running barramundi. I don't usually choose barramundi in preference for more local fresh fish. But this encrusted and moist dish was absolutely superb and one of the best I have tasted. We all thought that the portion size could have been a little more generous for the price, but the accompanying chips were very tasty and helped to fill us up.. Two in our group had dessert and both commented that it was delicious. We thought that the beers on the menu ware well priced but the mid range quality wines were at the upper end of what we would expect to pay . All in all with a fabulous view and a great atmosphere we had a very enjoyable evening.

I can assure you, there was plenty of crab in the crab soufflé. :-) You enjoyed it so much because of the flavour balance our chef achieves with this long-time-favourite dish. During our recent visit to the Sunshine Coast my wife and I visited a restaurant which was new to us; they have actually been established for several years. As always, we have some trepidation when ‘trying out’ a new place however I am definitely pleased to say we needn’t have. Ocean Ended will be on our short list of restaurants we always visit when we’re on the Sunshine Coast in future. Why? Put simply (a) the location on the Maroochy River is lovely whether by day or night, (b) the service was friendly, professional & timely & (c) the meals were exceptional, tasty and value for money. My wife loved her entre of zucchini flowers stuffed with honey & whipped ricotta & main, linguine of crab, lemon, chilli, parsley & tobiko. I opted for the chef’s selected seafood plate followed by Tasmanian salmon and accompaniments. Overall, we had a lovely fine dining experience; as far as we were concerned right up to the very high standard we have been fortunate to enjoy in many places in Australia & overseas. We will be back!

I have nothing but praise for the owners of this restaurant because they looked after me in every way imaginable to support me through a very difficult lunch. The service was impeccable and the food lovely - the view was an ultimate distraction from disturbing company. Sometimes we don’t know we need support until it’s there in bucket loads. Over stretched and somewhat over-priced

I was keen to try this restaurant as it has rave reviews. For the period we were in Maroochydore, Sunday lunch was our only opportunity, so we booked. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking and were obliged to wait outside because it was so busy. The view was lovely but an outdoor bench would have been appreciated. Owners/staff were friendly and apologetic about being overstretched and slower than usual. Food was OK, not rave material, and prices, especially for wine by the glass, at the top end of the restaurant pricing. There was a (discovered) error in the number of glasses charged to the bill. I must say that the crowded room of diners all seemed to be having a fantastic time, with much cameraderie with the owners, so i think we were just unlucky in our menu choices and in choosing a day when the kitchen was over-stretched, as we were told on a couple of occasions.

Thanks for your feedback and 4-star rating. Like all tenants of a body corporate, Ocean Ended is obliged to follow the rules around common areas. Although it might look like we own the space outside our restaurant, we don't, unfortunately. We are not permitted to put furniture outside. That's why we carefully make bookings only when we know we'll have an open table. We apologise for an over-stretched kitchen. It happens upon occasion in many restaurants and will be happening more often in the months and years to come as the global lack of trained chefs impacts service. We do limit our bookings to ensure that service is not impacted, but obviously there was an issue on this occasion. Unlike pubs and most restaurants, we have two Enotec machines that keeps opened bottles of wine in original condition, so we are able to offer lower level and some premium wines by the glass. The premium wines are priced accordingly. Thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback.

Great food and Service

We had a great night at this restaurant. It was second choice to another favoured and expensive restaurant in the Coolum area. However the menu in the first choice didn't attract and Ocean Edge was discovered by accident. On arrival we didn't immediately realise the restaurant was tucked away at the back of a residential property. However the Maitre De was waiting and directed us to our table. From then on we immediately felt we'd made the right choice and weren't disappointed with the food, and the service. We took advantage of a special set menu for locals which was very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive and all seven of us said we'd be back again. HIghly recommended.

Thank you, Paul and Michael, for making my birthday event such a wonderful time for all 16 of us! It was an absolutely amazing long Sunday lunch in every way - glorious weather to enjoy those water views we have missed so much, impeccable service and, of course, unbelievably fabulous food and wine as always. Did I say the service ain’t half bad, too? Seriously, you are the most wonderful hosts and you always go that extra mile. I thank you so much. A fantastic Restaurant

We have been about 4 times over the past 4 years. The location is brilliant, right on the river. The service is exceptional, with attention to detail, mixed with lighthearted banter with Paul and Michael. However, the food tops it off. Today we had the prawns and the pork as entrees, followed by the steak and the fresh fish. Both dishes were presented extremely well and cooked to perfection. We finished off sharing a sticky date pudding which was soft and delightful. There are several other items on the menu, which all looked great. This has become one of my wife's favourite restaurants and we will return again soon. Thankyou for great lunch

Don't wait another whole year before we see you again! It seems you experienced the Ocean Ended trifecta: stunning views, outstanding coastal cuisine (which includes meat) and memorable service. That sticky date pudding is addictive! Incredible food, amazing views and great service

This restaurant is a MUST if you are in or visit Maroochydore! Paul and Michael are amazing hosts and make the whole dining experience enjoyable from the moment you step foot in the door. The restaurant has beautiful views and the open air setting is perfect for the Sunshine Coast weather. We had a number of selections off the menu and every dish was a flavour sensation!

Outstanding food , service and a fabulous view.

Had lunch here today. Entree was tempura zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta cheese—beautiful !! Main was fish of the day which was dory fillets—beautifully cooked and presented. Then finished with Vietnamese Style Fried Bananas. Once again delectable !! The espresso martini which I indulged in after lunch was a great way to finish.

Positano Girls’ lunch

After a 3 week trip to Italy with girlfriends was cancelled due to Covid, I contacted Paul from Ocean Ended to arrange a booking for 10 girls for lunch. Paul could not have done more for us. A special menu was organised for our Positano inspired lunch. The food was plentiful and excellent and the price was incredible. We were all greeted like old friends and made to feel completely at home. Every one of us absolutely loved the experience and we were the last to leave just before dinner! Thank you Ocean Ended for ensuring our weekend away was fantastic. I can’t wait to come back when I’m next at the coast.

A must to go!

I wish I had comeback sooner! The food and service was amazing. 3 of my friends had the seafood tasting plate for entree which was delicious and a good size (not big, just a good entree size). I had the tartare and halloumi and both were beautiful. The 2 boys had steak for main which was a good portion and did not leave them feeling hungry. Was delicious. My friend had the fish which was a good size and yummy and I had the pork belly. Tasty but size could have been a bit bigger (although it did leave room for desert). Desert was spectacular. Very highly recommended.

Ocean Ended never disappoints

Michael and Paul always ensure you have a great evening. The service is light and cheery. The food is amazing (chef is amazing). We suggest an early dinner in Summer (our 6.30pm was timed perfectly) so you can catch the beautiful view across the water to Cotton Tree before/as the sun sets (of course lunch at any time of year would also provide that). On Friday January 3 we had a small group of family and friends together to celebrate my birthday. Having “Ocean Ended” before I couldn’t think of a better place to be and the boys and team didn’t disappoint. My group sang happy birthday when the desserts came out but not well enough for the boys. So, they did it again and got the whole restaurant to join in. It was a lovely touch and made me feel very special. Thank you to the other patrons that night for helping me celebrate. We’ll be back again and again. Here’s to an amazing 2020 for us all. Cassie and crew xxx

A well-sung "Happy Birthday" is vital! Glad we could oblige :-) Paul has run restaurants for 35 years and has always hated it when places with great views have ordinary food and sometimes even resentful or haughty service. He wanted Ocean Ended to be as famous for its food and service as it obviously would be for its stunning views. He and the whole team in the front of house and in the kitchen work to providing outstanding coastal cuisine and memorable service to complement the views, making the Ocean Ended experience wonderful for the first time diners and regulars alike. We look forward to seeing you and your family and friends again soon.

New chef bringing out great food to a favourite

Just had my birthday lunch at the restaurant. The boys not only embarrassed me with a different birthday song - “when I’m 64” - the new chef made me a special main course. I can’t tell you what it was as you will all want it. I probably eat here once a month and I always go away happy and content. And it does gave one if the best views on the coast. A new menu is coming out so I will be back to try it soon.

Paul and Michael and our staff and all the other guests in the restaurant were as delighted as you were with their sing-along performance of the Beatles' 'When I'm sixty-four'! Special main courses are reserved for special regulars. It's only fitting that you were our 500th review writer just as we passed our five years in business at Ocean Ended. Great to see this fabulous coast restaurant open again. We recently returned to Ocean Ended and enjoyed the dine in experience, as usual the service was fantastic and food was fresh and tasty. Michael and Paul gave us a warm welcome after being closed due to COVID-19 lockdown. It’s been so difficult for all restaurants and now they are back up and running again, it will still be a bit tricky with the rules and restrictions . Let’s hope the locals continue to support This restaurant and help them through this difficult time. As usual, we look forward to our next visit .
