Restaurant went out of electricity when we arrived, no pizza can be made and POS not working. Normal restaurant may start turning customers away but they still seated us - very surprising. They said "we will find a way", just showed typical Maggie spirit: they will strive to survive in any tough condition. From cyclone to Covid, I had no doubt that this restaurant will endure. Good on you Mamma Roma, tough times will be over but you will never be. In regards to food, considering Covid impact and chef was cooking in dark, it was good food. Antipesto platter was delicious. They even have live music that night.

Mamma Roma is basically a pizza/pasta eatery. The night we visited, the pizza chef was off I’ll do pasta it was and very enjoyable. We were advised pizza would be available the following night so we went back again to try it and so pleased we did as it was great. I had canola both nights which is as good as I’ve had in Italy The staff are all Italian and very friendly and as an added bonus it is byo with corkage $3 per head Recommended

What an amazing meal. Completely took us by surprise. The restaurant is run by a group of handsome young Italian men, and they cook like a true blue Nonna. The pasta was definitely freshly made and the pizza tasted exactly like what you get in Rome. Needless to say I was blown away!! Then we finished the meal off with a Tiramisu that was to die for- my partner and I battled it out for each spoon full. In hindsight we should have gotten our own instead of sharing. If your staying on the island make sure to go!!

We had high hopes for this restaurant as the menu was really appetising. Unfortunately we had a few let downs. My husbands pizza was undercooked and the hot salami was far from hot. My daughters bambino pasta was so watery. Then my gnocchi had a great flavour, but the serving was so small that I was left hungry. We ended up ordering desserts which we don't normally do but we were hungry and the tiramisu was lovely.

I LOVE good Italian and hoped this was going to impress BUT i was left disappointed. The food our table of 5 had was average at best, the platters selection of cheeses consisted of one piece of bocconcini, the cold meats had basic shaved ham and salami that you would buy at any supermarket deli although the vegetables where ok. My risotto was not appealing either with so much salt i had to leave most of it and my daughters gnocchi tasted like packet mac n cheese topping. My sons ham pizza was fine though so maybe pizzas would be there speciality here. My daughter ordered a dessert and it was so hard she couldn't bite through it . Unfortunately we wont be back!

Pathetic. Writing the same review twice doesn’t make you more interesting. Actually, I like to imaging you, coping the review From your mental less friend and see your face super happy because you can finally feel to be alive.... someone.... ....someone? I should say somewhat! Hope one day instead of listening someone whiteout mouth, you can start learning to read Italian, so instead of pretending to know what you eating, start to know what you reading.

We were eager to try Mumma Roma.....what a disappointment. Ordered pasta something we loved when we were living in Bologna Italy. Well what a disappointment that was. The pasta was definitely not fresh. The Gnocchi was not light and fresh, more dense like store bought. Really disappointed with the dining experience especially when you've lived in Italy and experienced first hand the delicious food "when prepared and cooked properly"

Ciao Simone, so upsetting… so frustrating, what a beautiful place bologna, unfortunately you never learn how to write Mamma, but don’t worry, that’s ok. Regarding reading… mmm, that’s may be an issue, … there is not one single time write fresh before gnocchi on the menu, for the simple fact that we buy it from Italy. Ahahah honestly stop dreaming... We do 80/100 people at night, and also we have the cheapest price on the island to welcome people and enjoy our restaurant, anyway mr bologna, as I say previously, in the next travel to Italy, try to get writing and reading lessons … may help…

Mediocrity in excess, probably one of the worst restaurants I have had the displeasure to be a customer. The food was tasteless the waiting staff corse and the staff started packing up the tables at the same time asking us if we would like desert. We won’t be going back and we are island locals.

Mamma Roma is a fantastic restaurant in Picnic Bay on Magnetic Island. It is run by Italians with genuine Italian chefs and Italian table staff. Great food with genuine flavours of Italy. Menu has everything you would expect with a few surprises. Remember you have to book. It is BYO but if you forget, there is a small bottle shop at the hotel about 30m down the esplanade. To get there, catch the bus (good regular service) or drive if you have a car. This place's a must of are staying magnetic Island.

Best pizza for a long time - sorry coming from Europe our expectations are high and Australian pizzas are simply not the same - special requests were no challenge, extremely great flavours in the pasta sauce and delicious olive oil used fresh salad. Note they do not serve any wines and we love a good red with our Italian food, so come prepared or buy around the corner. Highly recommend for pizza, pasta and salad - absolutely yum food and really nice & friendly service

If you only try one thing, make it the entree calzone. So delicious with the perfect amount of mozzarella, garlic and salt. Mains were so tasty also, and the atmosphere (including the elderly man who was playing the accordion and singing) all combined to make it feel like we were much further away from Townsville than a 20 minute ferry ride. Will definitely be returning!

Mamma Roma is an absolute gem!! We’ve eaten Italian all over the world and have to say these guys truly know what they are doing. The appetisers, pasta and pizza perfectly prepared. An authentic experience and the atmosphere felt like we could have been enjoying a real European summers night (my wife is German). Highly recommend as one of the best eats on Magnetic Island if not the best…we will eat here again 😋

We visited this restaurant for dinner on a busy Friday night. We sat outside in an undercover arcade which was pleasant. The staff were busy but we were served promptly and efficiently. The food was excellent and service great. This restaurant was recommended to us by a prior visitor and we are very happy we visited. One of the must visit places on the Island.

The most authentic Italian meal in North Queensland. I was so happy to find this Italian restaurant on magnetic island. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again. We had the home made woodfired pizza which had the perfect base and the homemade gnocchi which was amazing. Thank you so much for your great service. Andrew
