We just arrived in Whitianga and with 2 hungry boys in tow was looking for a value for $ tasty lunch. My 7 year old picked Indian as the cuisine of the day, discovering this Indian restaurant as we strolled past with the lunchtime special catching our eye. For $12.90 you get a decent bowl of curry (chicken tikka, butter chicken or chicken) along with freshly cooked naan (made to perfection) and a decent serving of rice all served in speedy time and hot. I ordered a yellow Thai curry which incidentally is only served with rice and no naan but it was still delicious. Well worth a viewing and it’s nice to see simple food cooked really well without blowing the budget. This is top of my list for eating out in this town!

Staying in Whitianga for a few days and visited based on the positive reviews and choosing to ignore the one negative one. The positive ones were all true. We started with some onion bhaji, light and delicious. For the main I had Bhuna Lamb and my wife had Singing Chicken. The Bhuna Lamb delivered exactly what it promised, had a mild spice version and that is what I got. The lamb was so tender and the gravy flavoursome and a good consistency. The Singing Chicken was quite sweet but we balanced it by eating both dishes togethe. Coupled with a garlic naan bread, perfect meal. The wait staff were attentitive but not over bearing.

A beautiful little restaurant with a real personal touch. The atmosphere really sets the scene and then the service! It has been quite a while since I have seen the level of service offered in a restaurant out of town. Staff were very friendly and attentive, regularly checked as to whether we were happy with our meal and if there was anything else we would like. They even had the manager and chef come and check our satisfaction levels. A very filling meal of delicious content (We ate both Thai and Indian) left us no room for desert. They really add a personal touch here, one diner was having a birthday on the evening we were there and the manager brought him out a small cake all with a lit candle to celebrate the occasion. That really impressed me.

Our group was a mix of more and less adventurious diners and this Restaurant met all of our needs. The owner helped us with our selections, recommending a variety of choices that we could share. The Goat Curry was unique and excellent. I dont rememeber the other dishes but all were equally good. We did notice that restaurants close earlier than in Europe or the US so factor that in. when making reservations.

Thank you for sharing your excellent dining experience. Our Goat Curry is very popular and I am glad you tried it. It is exciting to know that all of you enjoyed the various curries. Whitianga being a sleepy little town, goes to bed early, but we always try to accomodate our guests.

Our family loves it Indian cuisine and this place serves one of the better butter chickens we have tried. The naan bread was slightly overdone, but the char added a nice flavour. We have wonderful service and exceptional food.

The one star was only given to the lovely girls that served us. Otherwise I would rate it zero. What Indian restaurant doesn't make their own naan bread???! We were served low quality shop bought packet naans that were thin and lack of texture. Like chewing on cardboard. The curry, you can't even bother making your own butter sauce???! I can even name the brand of supermarket butter chicken sauce you used and you had the guts to charge people $2+ for your curry? The butter chicken had less than 8 thin pieces of spiced chicken breast in it. The paneer curry had 10 little chewie plastic "cheese" cubes in it. The cocktails, hardly tasting any alcohol in it. What a rip off. I'm not sure how you come to ranked 2nd of in TA under the whole of Whitianga. We were starving so we did finish our meal (I mean it's not that hard to finish the so called meal when the portion is so small) and left. But if you're in the mood for a good curry, DO NOT bother with this place. You'll be in for a very big disappointment.

We ordered a takeway meal for 2. Samosas were spetacular. My partner's dish was delicious. Mine had a very good sauce, however the veggies were not great - I ordered a vegetarian dorma and the veggies were frozen (peas, corn, cauliflower and beans only). If the veggies were fresh, or at least a mixture of frozen and fresh, I would definetly give it 5 stars.

We were a large group with 3 pre set menu choices. If these were an example of the regular menu choices then I would not eat here again. We were advised that they had mixed up the dates and were expecting us 2 nights earlier (their mistake), one can only hope that the food was not placed in the fridge and served out for the correct night. The starters arrived quickly, the onion bajis were excellent but the other items left a bit to be desired, the chicken was cold in the centre. I chose the Thai curry which was very average with no garnishing, just chicken and potato pieces in a Thai tasting sauce. The naan breads were conveniently cut into quarters for us and were fine. The wait staff were very friendly, our waitress was wearing an anorak the whole night, I would have appreciated a mask as she looked decidedly unwell. It was a cheap and cheerful meal.

We like Indian and Thai food in roughly equal measures so this seemed like the perfect place to come and have lunch. The Goat curry was superb and as requested came in at more than New Zealand hot but slightly less than full-on Indian hot. The Garlic naan bread was one of the best naan I have enjoyed in recent times. It was light and hot and well drizzled with garlic. My other half had the vegetarian Pad Thai and was well pleased with the result. The service was warm and friendly and created an enjoyable interlude in an otherwise busy day. A good result all round.

We had pretty good food served by lovely staff. The portions were generous and there was a fine selection of local craft beer to accompany the food. The prices were reasonable, and we very much enjoyed our visit.

We enjoyed a mix starter and shared a chicken Jalfrezi and lamb rogan josh. We ordered medium-hot. Both curries tasty and definitely hot ! Plain rice accompanied the dishes and we ordered a garlic naan, which was fresh and homemade, very yummy!

We had lunch here because it was rated #2 in Trip Advisor. Unusual place since they serve mainly Indian food. None of us 3 like curry so we ordered no curry items. We had spring rolls and prawns appetizers. For the mains, we had basil stir fry, sweet n sour pork, and pad thai with chicken (me). n Food was pretty good Service was excellent. Definitely would return if/when we visit Whitianga again. Food was on the pricey side.

In the heart of whitianga, with only a handful of dining options, is this popular and surprisingly busy Thai and Indian restaurant which caters for both cuisines. With a full dining room, they managed to fit us in and were served relatively quickly considering the packed house. Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering and tasted amazing. I tried something different and will have it again. The range of ethnic representation within the business was pleasing to see, with having several young staff also on the team was positive. Will definitely return again on our next trip up the Coromandel route.

Was looking for a nice Indian meal but this didn’t meet our requirements. Medium had little to no spice, biryani was pretty flavourless. Gluten free roti wasn’t great either, we didn’t eat it all and weren’t interested in taking leftovers.

I am sorry for the disappointment with your meal and apologize that it did not live up to your expectations. I wish you had mentioned during your dining and we would have been more than happy to prepare another meal with higher level of spice. I hope you will give us another opportunity to prove ourselves.

Service is genuinely friendly. Great location to people watch. Kingfisher on tap all needed was a great curry. Boom and delivered. After commenting on how good it was the table went quiet as words got in the way of mmmmms and other happy punter sounds. We eat curry at least once a week all around the world and nz. Best curry on the peninsula and with surprising consistency. Can’t wait to next week. !!!!
