Called in here for lunch and should have taken the unkempt yard as a omen for our experience. The exterior might have once been a fun eccentric arty place, but was overgrown with stuff just laying around and generally in state of needing some TLC....Inside was better and we were given menus and found ourselves a table outside. We all fancied some fresh Coromandel fish, and all ordered the crumbed Fish and Chips meal. While awaiting our meal delivery we watched a family of mice climbing amongst the trellis in the garden adjacent to the restaurant door which was a little disconcerting, but certainly not the worst of our experience. Good portion and looked tasty when it arrived. However, the crumb-coat was very salty, and the fish tasted strange and slightly slimy with the first bite. As seasoned fisher-people, we could not pick the fish variety. A few bites later and the ammonia-odour of fish that is FAR too past its best by emerged from the salty coating. A passing waiter quizzed our unfinished plates and was very gracious and apologetic, immediately offering to refund the cost of our meals, which was appreciated. We retreated back to our accommodation to await the inevitable health impacts from ingesting a quantity of food that was clearly off. How the cook did not know (or ignored the fact) the fish was not fresh was beyond me. They certainly couldn't blame mask-wearing getting in the way as the entire kitchen staff were wearing their masks down around their chins which was clearly visible from the counter.More
