we ordered the oysters, randomly, even though we don't normally eat oysters. they were EXCEPTIONAL. clean, silky, really delicious. we'll be eating more oysters. the poke/tofu bowls looked excellent, but didn't get those. instead, had spring rolls, edamame/pea dumplings, and fried squid salad (no papaya available) which were all really, really good. i liked the concept of having everyone order at the counter because they had such few wait staff. they were still very attentive and the system worked well - we had time to pick what we wanted and then weren't waiting for the overworked front-of-house staff to attend to us.

While in Whitianga for a couple of nights Blue Ginger was recommended by another restaurant that was already fully booked. From the road we could see that Blue Ginger was also pretty full but we managed to get three seat right near the window. Service was very prompt - explaining the menu options and asking that we place the order up at the bar. The food arrived in no time, there was plenty of it, well cooked, very tasty and very good value for money. The restaurant is very uncomplicated, jovial and has a vast array of knickknacks, pictures and lamps and everybody enjoyed themselves. Blue Ginger has no licence but offers a mean home made ginger beer, coconut water and other special treats.

This is one of the few meals in which detailed but simple design of meals brings flavours together that explode on the taste buds. Wow! An amazing taste experience. Don't plan on eating here Sunday and Monday nights. They give their staff a breather two nights a week. They don't take bookings so don't be surprised if you are told to come back in half an hour.

The staff were nice and easy, nice menu but be prepared to wait for your food if there are busy. I believed there was a lot of takeaways that night we went as I could see people coming in and out... lucky we ordered our kids food first as our main came very late, by that time the kids had finished and we weren’t really hungry. My partner had a really good main but mine I ordered a special was a bit dissapointed, it was very blend but there was lots of fresh veges. The portions are really good so you won’t get hungry after your main! I heard the table not far from us complained about how long they waited and also the kitchen runned out of ingredients.... maybe takeaway or go early if you want to make sure you eat on time and have what you want!

Was an incredibly hot night so we opted for takeaway. They were insanely busy and had sold out of my first choice but we weren’t disappointed - best dumplings we have ever tasted and the Asian greens, karaage chicken and pork belly were absolutely divine - the best we’ve ever had in Whitianga. Oh and the staff are lovely too.

We ordered 5 different dishes online for a birthday celebration. We picked the order up at the agreed time. Everything was presented beautifully and each dish was tasty and delicious. We haven’t visited the restaurant before, but we’re now looking forward to eating at the restaurant.

Outstanding prawn dumplings and nothing else. Came in laid back and prepared to wait, but $31 and over 55 minutes seems like a long to to wait for a salmon poke bowl. Service seemed to focus overwhelmingly on takeaways and the general vibe from everyone’s faces in the restaurant was that they too waited a long time for their food. Don’t get me wrong the food is perfectly fine, but not good enough to justify the long wait times.

This place was great. Friendly host and gorgeous food. We were a bit bummed that they weren't licenced, but who cares when you are eating food like this. Seriously this was top notch, serious flavour on a different level, 10 out of 10!

We had lunch for 6 people & shared a number of dishes. The flavours were all wonderful. Slightly disappointing we could not drink wine there but they explained it is because they are Buddhist which one must respect. Our friends who travel in Asia a lot were impressed with all the dishes and we are so glad this restaurant was recommended to us.

We had a delicious lunch at Blue Ginger. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. The menu is relatively small, but contains an interesting range of Asian flavours. The prices are very reasonable. Make sure that you try the bao buns; they are special. It is most encouraging to see a restaurant like this thriving in Whitianga.

We passed this small gem of a restaurant on our first visit to Whitianga and saw that it was full which was a good sign. We each had a fusion meal which was a mix of Polynesian and Asian influences Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Vietnamese etc it was yummy. Miss it if you don't like any of the above.

This little place rocks. Best Vietnamese food I’ve had in NZ. Great atmosphere, chilled music and all dishes were superb (best pork (black) bao bun with crackling ever) Would absolutely go back again.

Very delicious food. Staff were friendly and attentive. We order the pork bao buns - I think this was the most delicious pork boa I’ve ever had! And the prawn dumplings were so delicate and delicious. Would recommend coming here

Such an awesome experience; great staff, delicious food, chill music, even excellent paper pineapple decorations! I had the Buddha Bowl and my dining companion had the Fiji Eggplant and Jackfruit curry. The Bali tonic drink made in-house was a delicious start to our meal, the mains were divine and the Little Island coconut icecream was a lovely finish. Highly recommend dining here!!!

This was one of the best meals I’ve had at an Asian fusion restaurant! Unfortunately you can’t book a table but the staff are friendly and very accommodating when you walk in. It is very popular so go early!! The food arrived very promptly and was delicious- fresh and nicely presented. I could have eaten here every night! Highly recommend.
