Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great place. The food is fantastic. Had a fabulous crispy duck and my vegetarian daughter had the moussaka. Bartender was so attentive. Happened to be jazz night-perfect

The experience is mostly about the history and ambiance, so I would suggest going when it's relatively empty. We went for dinner at 5;30 so we could walk around and examine the artifacts without bothering other diners. I did not have high expectations for the...food so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality offerings. Another surprise was the specially brewed ale that dates from Washington's time. It was terrific. Also, while visiting, check out the small graveyard down the street with headstones dating from the Revolutionary War.More

Arrived for a 6:30 reservation and we were seated immediately. The decor was cozy and pleasant. The waitress was friendly and attentive. It was a varied menu with some meal choices that you dont always see. Our table enjoyed the diver scallops, schnitzel and skirt...steak. All in all we felt like our dinner was reasonably priced and enjoyable. We did not try dessert however we sat for quite a while after finishing our meals enjoying our cocktails and we were not rushed. We noted the live music happening in the front of the restaurant when we were leaving and all of us spoke about how it would be nice to come back for it next time. We will be back.More

Fabulous dinner from the signature cocktails to the last course. Have the Caesar salad made table side! Services and atmosphere also great.

We have always loved the 76 House. Today not so much. We came for the Sunday brunch which we have had many times. This time the place was very noisy. Noisier than usual. I have to say our waiter was wonderful, quick and attentive. The...food was sub par. My daughter and myself each ordered the chicken and waffles. It came with bacon which was very good. The waffle was very thin and the chicken was thin and greasy. I think they are cutting costs and it shows. The orange juice and the soda that my husband and daughter had tasted watered down. It was a shame since we spent over $100 on brunch for 3. I do want to add how much I love the beauty of the 76 house I just wish they would focus more on the food more.More

Big history buff so this was fun, although kinda disappointed this is not the original building which burned soon after the Civil War. Food good, but not great. Great menu, service, and ambience, but pricey: $77.68 for lunch for 2 before tip.

Fabulous restaurant! I brought a bus tour group here and we had a wonderful time. The historic building is a big plus and the food was outstanding. Everyone in the tour group raved about it. The owner came out and gave us a great talk...about the history of the 76 House, which was another big plus. All in all, this was one of the tour highlights.More

My wife and i had been touring the oldest bars in north america and the old 76 came up. We stopped by and went in. Turns out it wasn’t even open for the day but the owner welcomed us in. He told us stories of...his family which was the story of the founding of america. We had drinks and excellent food. This is what it must have been like for travellers 300 years ago. Stop by any time. And try the apple crumble. It was excellent. As for the building. The exterior is as authentic as the interior. Even with updates, it’s still a step back in time. Way back.More

A deep and interesting menu and very good service, as usual. The menu changes over time it’s not always what is on the website, but there are always several items we have never seen before. The reason we come here is because it is a...magnet to bring us back to where we grew up and talk about the history of the area. The bar and wine menu could be improved, but it won’t keep us away. Really glad this place is still here.More

The 76 house is the real thing uneven floors post and beam revolutionary decor. Very authentic! The food was great! The roast Duck was crispy but moist on the inside the orange sauce was delicious but not enough of it. I should have asked for...more. The sweet potato mash was to die for. Could have eaten a bowl of it! Other veggies were great The pot roast was so good cut with a fork. Red cabbage was a great complement. Service was great. Had the bread pudding for dessert. Excellent. Hint of cinnamon in bread with crème brûlée sauce on it. Moist and flavorful. Will go back to try other things on the menu.More

First dined at the 76 House in the early 70's. Been back occasionally in the past decade. Always pretty good. Last evening's dinner was a disappointment. We had to dine early to accommodate an ailing friend, so the restaurant was 10% full. Drinks were served...quickly. Dinner was served relatively quickly. Crab cake appetizer was tiny, lukewarm and flavorless. Jaeger Schnitzel was good, but lukewarm (and too well done to send back for reheating). Spatzle and red cabbage were cold and flavorless. Rolls were "commercial" and slightly stale. Two "mid-shelf" cocktails were $37.50. Service was friendly and good, but the kitchen needs work and the food and drinks were grossly overpriced for the quality / quantity served.More

We went as a group of six for dinner and to hear a band. The service was better than average. Meals were good and the band was very good. The bill however had extra charges. It included more salads then were consumed as well as...more drinks then were consumed. There was also a sizable charge for using a credit card and a 20% gratuity, added in the bill. Be aware of what you consume and that the gratuity is already added on the bill.More

If you like historic buildings, definitely worth a visit. The food we ordered was very traditional and heavy on the breading. So come for the ambience and history but don't have high expectations for the food offering!

Attentive wait staff, delicious food at reasonable prices, and a tavern rich with history. Live music was playing the night we went, which was a nice addition to a great evening.

My girlfriend and I were followed by hostess and server outside after tipping $37 on a $220 bill. We were confronted in front of people as we did not tip. There was a hidden $17 tip that they added, so look for hidden charges when...you get your bill ( it is not the sales tax). I added a $20 tip, and that makes a total of $37 which is around the 18% required tip. Mind you, I tipped despite bad service as well as unexceptional food. Now too that with an attempt of embarrassment if front of other guests. I called the manager who was a real as*ho*e. Expect to get bad service and bad food!More
