We were not sure what to expect. My wife and I are in town to see family and friend that are here for a wedding, and we had a few days. Looking around for a good Italian restaurant and considered several. We were pleasantly surprised...that the parking lot was pretty full when we arrived just before 6 PM. We had a 25-minute wait (we did NOT have reservation!). Time was passed having a glass of wine. When we were seated, our server made sure we had bread and menus, we were not rushed, and we were not in a hurry. We ordered, ordered wine and relaxed. We were then surprised at the size of the portions, WOW! we both had the lasagna, and it was much more than we expected - sauce was delicious, not to mention the layers of goodness - sausage, ricotta, and lasagna noodles - all around excellent! Neither one of us could finish our plates and had to at least half our portions home. I would recommend them to anyone - great food at a good price - you will not go wrong!More

We have been to or taken out at Canali's for years. Never had a bad meal. The portions are enormous, but the quality is not sacrificed. Everything is fresh and made perfectly.

We have been eating at Canalis for almost 40 years. Our recent visit was after a show at Proctors on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately in the front room to the right. It was noticeably cold. Our seats were even cold. It was...obvious the heat had just tecently been turned on once staff had come in. Our waitress was excellent. Waitresses at Canalis have always been top-notch. They know the specials, the food, recommendations, the bar, every in and out. They bust their backs. Drinks came from the bar immediately. We both ordered wine. Ice waters were at the table as soon as we sat. Waitress informed us that an upcharge of $1.50 is now added to all salads. The Canalis house salad is a meal in and of itself so it wasn't a concern. We assume to keep entree costs down, the cost was added to salads. We both had a salad with the house dressing(ALWAYS!) Fresh, warm, delicious, crusty Italian bread basket came with packet butter. I ordered the Oven Roasted Chicken and spouse had Chicken Parmesaen. Both were served piping hot and delicious. Plenty of sauce and mozzarella cheese on husband's parm. My chicken was very juicy and had excellent flavoring/spices. Waitress offered another bread basket which we happily accepted and took home with our leftovers. We indulged by splitting a carafe of red wine with our meal. We were too full for coffee or dessert this trip. Never once have we experienced a bad meal at Canalis. Always delicious and we always return.More

Went here as a group of 10 for an 86th birthday surprise party. The food was great as expected. The service was beyond reproach. Kayla and her team took such good care of all of us. They all were friendly and engaging. Really made us...comfortable. They kept things moving but we were never made to feel rushed. Two of us were here from California and wish we could find a restaurant there with the same quality of service and food. Thank you for making it a perfect party.More

I have been eating here regularly for 35 years. I honestly can't remember a bad meal. Huge portions, great flavor, always cooked to perfection. If you are in Rotterdam or Schenectady do yourself a favor and get some Canali's.

My first time back here in about 10 years. The same high quality food & service. We had a reservation for a party of six on Thu 1/23/20 6:00pm. Reservations are highly recommended. Lots of large parties 6, 8, 10+ are the norm on most...nights. Our server was Ellen who keeping many tables going during this prime dinner time. Wines (glass-$7. or bottle) and several Peroni draft beers ($5). Fresh hot bread, chilled salads, & hot soups arrived in 10 minutes. Dinner came out in 25 minutes. This is fine w/ us as we're never in a hurry catching up w/ our friends. Six different dinners - eggplant parm($19), chicken parm($19), lasagna (1 lb $19), fettuccine carbonara ($19), broiled scallops w/ wine, rice, mixed vegt ($26), & shrimp scampi w/ ziti ($25). Came to the table in two consecutive deliveries - and sizzling hot. Note: many awards for their meatballs - try them. Their sauce is single sourced and authentic southern Italian. Our guests have been here many times and always plan on taking home half of these generous portions. No leftovers on the chicken parm & the carbonara though. Molto bene! This is a great neighborhood restaurant that never disappoints their long time frequent customers. The loyalty goes both ways - a win for all. They also have a bar area w/ a few small tables, takeout for all items, and they cater. I have also been here for family parties before dinner time. Open: WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY 4:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. FRIDAY & SATURDAY 4:00 P.M. – 9:30 P.M. SUNDAY 4:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. MONDAY/TUESDAY -CLOSED Thank you to Ellen and the rest of the staff at Canali's. You never disappoint. See you soon.More

Without question, one of the best Italian restaurants in the area, and maybe the State. Whenever we go and what ever we order, my wife and I always get a high quality (and quantity) meal. Their prices compare with everyone else and while some may...think it is just a bit high, it is more than worth it, as we always have more than enough to take home for another meal or two. Their main dish is huge and their side of pasta is a meal unto itself. Included with the meal is a large salad which is always fresh and crisp. with much more than just lettuce and with a tasty dressing. Their spaghetti sauce is the best: thick and delicious which is always the difference maker in Italian cuisine. Their service/friendly personnel is exemplary as well. If you haven't tried Canali's yet, you have yet to taste great Italian food.More

We were a party of 10... We had a reservation and were immediately seated... The enviroment was pleasantly decorated and we were able to speak around our table with relative ease. Everyone ordered a different entree and every serving was GIANT! Noone went home hungry,...for sure! The food was exceptional!!! Our server was friendly and efficient and took great care of everyone! Definitely a great place to dine...COME HUNGRY!!! A question below asks about 'how expensive', normally I would say yhe prices were mid-range. However, when you factor in the quality and sheer quantity you just can't beat the price point! Great Value!!!More

I thought I was back in Brooklyn where Italian food is great and plentiful. I always try the veal parm but was swayed by a garlic covered veal dish. And loved it. They have choices of pastas and homemade alternatives for the same dish. Take...the home made, everyone loved it. Meatball add one to the manicotti were great and were the size of baseballs, close to softballs. Everyone took home food, unusual in my circles. Large parking lot and very friendly staff. Clearly the best I have found upstate.More
