Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently visited for a special occasion. Nico, our server, was terrific. He guided us through the menu, explaining the various preparations and unique ingredients. He and his associates provided professional and caring service throughout the meal. Now on the food… We were expecting something special, based upon the Times rave review and Michelin listing, but were overall pleased well beyond our expectations. Standouts included the tacos de barbacoa (lamb) and aguachile de camarones starters, as well as the enmolades de pato (duck) and pollito de leche (Cornish hen) entrees. The esquites are listed on the menu as a starter, but we enjoyed it as a side dish. Delicious! Everything was first quality and beautifully presented. We look forward to our next visit and another excellent experience.

Our son and his girlfriend went to Tobala on a Saturday night after celebrating various graduations. Busy, but nowhere near full, so didn't need a reservation. Food was really quite good. However, it's also quite expensive. $15-$20 for appetizers and $35-$50 for entrees. Drinks are at least $15. Makes you think twice about going out for a casual dinner. Finally, a recurring complaint. As is typical in restaurants these days, there are lots of hard surfaces so the noise level is high. They do this on purpose, of course, because that seems to create a sense of being busy and people spend more. Still, it makes conversation somewhat difficult. Again, the food was quite good and we would enjoy going back again. However, the high price will probably mean we won't make the trip.

Visited on a weekday evening for a family birthday. The decor is inviting, bright and calming and the staff welcoming. Our server was phenomenal. They thoroughly explained the menu and were attentive and efficient. The food itself was outstanding…. Fresh, simple and satisfying. Portions were average and prices on the higher end but we were satisfied with the entire experience and will definitely return. More comfortable seating (particularly the chairs that offer little support) would be appreciated together with more vegetarian and fish offerings for the main courses. All in all, this restaurant is a welcome addition to Riverdale and highly recommended,

The food is very good to excellent Duck mole is exceptional. The corn dish is fab. But the basics need attention: Having the main course served while still eating the apps is a mistake, as is failing to provide napkins, despite asking twice. But when one makes a mistake a simple apology is appropriate but none was offered. And there’s no excuse for the bathroom not having toilet paper, nor the (very pretty) communal sink not having any towels.

Incredible food!!! Very friendly staff and beautifully decorated restaurant. We went for brunch and started off with the guac, it was super fresh and creamy. The 'enmolado de pato' and 'pollito de leche' are must tries - they really know how to do mole here, and it is not an easy prep. The drinks were delicious too, and very nicely priced which is always a pleasant thing ;) Beautifully prepared Mexican food, this place is an incredible addition to the Riverdale neighborhood and to the culinary scene of the Bronx.
