My husband and I had January and February birthday dinners at Terrapin. The Salmon and pork chop were prepared perfectly. Tender, tasty with a marrying of perfect spice balance that tied the meal together.Excellent French wines by the glass, which complement the meal. The space is welcoming and relaxed with excellent professional waitstaff (Dave and Mark) who were personable and made the dining experience even better. We enjoy eating in the upper level (3 steps up or use the ramp). Give Chef Kroner's cuisine a try. It is consistently beautifully prepared and plated.

Even though our Passports are currently not functioning, we are happy to travel some distance for a memorable meal. It must be nearly a decade since our first visit to Terrapin. Our mistake in waiting so long to return. In this crazy time of Covid, they have set up a fairly extensive outdoor and tent dining area to supplement the distinctive dining room in an old desanctified Baptist Church. Candidly, the outdoor area is a bit makeshift, but on a cool early October night that was where most of the customers were. Covid careful! The menu is alarmingly extensive, from tapas, sandwiches, burritos to a wide range of salads, pastas and mains. We both started with a cup of heavenly wild mushroom soup. Main courses of Scallops and Organic King Salmon were superb, as good as one hopes to get in sight of salt water fishing boats. The service is casual but caring. Since we were driving, we limited ourselves to glasses of decent white wine. This is truly a destination restaurant. The menu is creative without being pretentious. The focus on premium farm to table ingredients pays off in intense and satisfying flavors. The blueberries in our dessert cake tasted like they had just been picked. It can be a bit expensive, but on this instance you really do get what you pay for.

We decided to eat at Terapin because of the space itself and the fact that a scan of the menu made it seem appealing. Ended up being a very good dinner. Our server was especially helpful and gracious. We started with appetizers--Terapin is a good spot to get a number of smaller servings of things if you'd rather try a number of items rather than one entree. Duck quesadillas were very tasty and the mushroom bisque was outstanding. I stuck with shredded duck in a phylo pastry for an entree. Rich but so tasty. I had one bad glass of wine but when I switched, the new wine was very good and they took the glass of bad wine off the bill without asking. We went with a simple blueberry crumble for dessert topped with vanilla ice cream to share. The perfect tasty choice after our dinner. Very good food. I'd go here again.

We ate in the main dining room surrounded by the forceful presence of the restored historic church looming around us. It is a unique setting but could be more upbeat with better lighting. The morel mushroom soup was spectacular especially accompanied with the hot brioche buns. The seared strip steak in a fine wine sauce with side veggies was also impressive. Definitely would return to try other dishes and dine in the bistro.

Stopped in for an early lunch on a Saturday at 11:30 after several years since our last visit and it’s still as good as always. We sat comfortably outside and enjoyed the heirloom tomato capreze salad with delicious moist grilled shrimp added, steak sandwich with onion confit, blistered shishito peppers, watermelon heirloom tomato gazpacho with a clear Vinho verde “rose” and a guava peach Bellini and a starter of perfectly spiced crispy thin French fries. We highly recommend.

From the menu description and prices and the photos of the exterior, this looked like a reasonably upscale establishment, but our dinner outside on the patio did not live up to expectations. Service was brisk but not solicitous, napkins were paper, and the food is best described as adequate. You can find better value elsewhere nearby.

Hi Deborah - thank you for dining with us. We're so sorry that you were disappointed with the value you received during your visit. We offer three dining experiences within Terrapin, with dinner service in the dining room being the most upscale. Our bistro and patio are the more casual and playful dining options, and serve a more casual bistro menu (although dining room entrees are available on the patio during dinner service too). If you're looking for a more refined experience, we hope you have the opportunity to try our dining room soon. Thanks for your feedback!

After two days of hit-or-miss dining in the area, we are so happy we found Terrapin. Everything about our experience was great. From the tapas to the main courses, the food was all well prepared and delicious. Our kind young server, Zachariah, could not have been friendlier or more attentive. We were pleased that the wine list included local wine from Clermont, which was quite good. The place was packed with eager diners on a Monday at lunchtime—a good endorsement for Terrapin. It's a fun, lively, relaxed place with good food and very nice people. Kudos all around to the management and staff.

Outside tables were setup under a large tent to accommodate Covid restrictions. Our entire lunch was perfect from the food, staff and service. I started with a grilled lamb Tapas and had the crusted tuna with salad appetizer as my main meal. Both were perfectly cooked with mild sauces as not to over power the meat. To complete the meal was a key lime cheesecake - the flavor and texture was the best I have had. Thanks Terrapin Restaurant

Located in what used to be an old church which made for a memorable meal. Service was excellent, attentive but not overwhelming. Food was very good with large servings. I had the duck which was tender and very flavorful but served a little colder than it should have been. So an almost 5 star experience but not quite.

My wife and I were exploring Rhinebeck and stopped for drinks and a snack at Terrapin. Terrapin serves lunch and dinner, has a full bar, offers outdoor seating and is housed in an old church. We ordered our drinks and shared an appetizer of macadamia nut tempura calamari. The tempura was light and crispy and the pineapple dipping sauce gave the dish a different and delicious twist. Definitely give them a try.

I’ve eaten at Terrapin several times before. Friends who never been to Rhinebeck were visiting with me, so I made reservations there for one of our dinners. I’m very glad we had reservations, as they were very busy on a Saturday evening Our server was very good. Even though he was young, he was very poised and handled our many questions about the menu with ease. Everything we had was very good: from the cocktails to the appetizers to the entrées to dessert.

Soup was excellent but the rest was uneven… dessert was good but main courses spotty and service took a long time. There wasn’t much rum in my mojito either and I could have used a drink as stiff as the over $200 bill! I thought meat was tough and I won’t voluntarily be back we were 4 people but only 2 entrees ….overpriced and underserved

Thank goodness for a place that is neither a diner nor trying to be Tribeca expensive dark buzz near the Hudson. Spaciously placed tables and moderate illumination facilitate conversation with companions while we enthus about the food. The place is more interesting looking from the outside than from the table, but i was just grateful to get the combo of low noise level, interesting food and attentive servers.

Terrapin has been tired for a long time. We ate in the bistro which was filled in the late afternoon. The decor needs updating - it’s gloomy and dark with dried out floral arrangements in the windows. The service was prompt and excellent But the food was dreary. Two small goat cheese dumplings were over fried and tough with volcano hot cheese inside. Perhaps they were hotted up in the microwave. The Southern chicken plate had inedible dark boiled greens that seemed very old, barely warm mashed potatoes and heavily deep fried chicken. Did the $14 white wine by the glass come from a box? On the plus side the lightly fried calamari were delicious. Why are reviews so uncritical?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We’re so sorry that you didn’t enjoy the décor in the bistro, or your soul food plate. Our bistro was just repainted and refinished in the last couple of years, and our goat cheese wontons are always fried to order, never microwaved. None of our wines by the glass are served from a box. We’re glad that you enjoyed the calamari, and service, and we hope to serve you again soon.

Had a early diner that was excellent. Roasted rib topped with bread & melted cheese was so good. Beautiful setting & ambience in the converted former church. Server was attentive without interference of enjoyment of the meal. Easy to find just blocks from the main shopping street
