Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First off the owners are such down to earth people, they bent over backwards to make our stay great. We went off season. We arrived on a Monday and were told they close on Tuesdays during that season; however the owner Marion came back in the morning to cook us a beautiful breakfast, even though we were the only ones there! Also I had complimented her homemade pickled beets from our dinner the night before and she handed me a jar to take home with me. I do love my pickled beets and you can't beat homemade. (Pun intended) Our dinner the night before was a plate full of local perch, yummy! And if that wasn't enough, Marion handed us two of their logo coffee mugs to take home as a souvenier. (it is now my faverite mug!) Our room was very nice, clean, spacious and comfortable. Everything looked like it had been recently updated. They gave us good tips on places to go nearby. We hiked a mountain that lead to a rangers fire tower. It took about an hour to hike each way and it was definately beautiful, the view was spectacular! We didn't see a moose but did see moose tracks. Our stay in the Stillwater Reservior area was awesome and we'll be back. We highly reccomend Stillwater Hotel and Restaurant. Thank you Marion, Joe and Jess!

Made reservations for four and drove up the 10 mile dirt road wondering what to expect. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming as if we were old friends and the owners were fun to talk to. The food was amazing with more than adequate portions and the homemade desserts were sooooo good! We highly recommend the experience.

Driving the long lonesome back roads between Inlet and Lowville, we ran into a dead end on the Stillwater Reservoir, with this restaurant sitting by the boat launch. What to expect from a place tucked away so far from the noise and bustle of Old Forge? Well, the best lasagna I've ever eaten, for one thing. And after boxing up its remains - plenty large portion, enough to reheat for another meal - an out-of-this-world dessert. I opted for Kahlua chocolate mousse on dark chocolate cake. It was, as my buddy described, "pure evil" tempting in looks and taste. Wow. And the folks who served were friendly and helpful in getting us back on the road in the right direction.

Beautiful views of reservoir and nice atmosphere inside but expensive food with tiny portions. We paid $7.00 for a "bowl" of soup, that was less than than 8 oz and tasted bland. $12.00 for "crabcakes" that had popcorn shrimp in them. But the tip of the iceberg was being charged an additional $2.50 for a REFILL on an iced tea. Really??

We have been there twice good food but the owners dog kept trying to eat my food while I was sitting on their patio dining room . I thought the first time was there was just a one time incident but we went back a again and we ate on the patio again their dog came on the patio and trying to eat our food while we were eating and the owner came out and snap at my husband for feeding the dog which we were not.My husband was trying to keep the dog from grabbing our food from the table. We have dogs too and I don’t give outr dogs food from our table or let our dogs roam around the house if we have guests eating at our house . We pay good money to eat there and have a relaxing time but I am not going to eating dinner and have a dog eating my food that not sanitary st all

Hummingbirds glittering like sparkling jewels!. An amazing oasis in A nearly off the grid location. Peace , tranquility, adventure. Exceptional food and service. Hummingbird Heaven! Both of us got to have the hummingbirds sit on our fingers! Music on the deck! A great place to find. Looking for the best getaway? For your self or family? Come here for at least 2 nights! The drive is well worth it.

You won't be disappointed with Stillwater Hotel. Marian is the hostess with the mostest who can recommend wine as well as a big city sommilier. Joe's prime rib is to die for, and the apple crisp is outstanding.

Spent a long Labor Day weekend at the Stillwater Hotel with my husband, our 3 children and Mom and Dad. Rented the cottage, plenty of room for the 7 of us. Ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant every night. The filet was great, scallops and shrimp scampi, and probably the best French onion soup I've ever eaten. The food is great, and people are even better. Marian and Joe treated us like family and our waitress, Pamme, was awesome. Wonderful, laid back experience in a beautiful setting! Beautiful hiking, kayaking (flat water and white water) and fishing in area. Oh... and the peanut butter pie.... mmm... we'll be back!

Start in Eagle Bay and turn off Rte 28 onto the Big Moose Rd... drive a bumpy, rough road for about 10-12 miles ... and then you get to the DIRT road. From there, it's going to be another 20 -30 minutes on a road that might be okay... or could be total washboard, and chatter your teeth half out of your skull before you get there. WHY, one would wonder, would anyone put themselves through all of that just to get to a restaurant? Because this restaurant is worth the drive! Not only that, you are sitting in a restaurant at the head of the Stillwater Reservoir and, at the very least, you've just found a place you can tell your grand kids about: rough roads, scenic vista and, oh yeah - great food!

I've been to Stillwater a few times and only for drinks this time. Last year it was my pick for Valentines with my wife. One of the best stops whether it's the winter or summer.

We almost stayed here when we were looking for a place to visit on Stillwater Reservoir...I am SO glad that we DIDN'T!! Because there is NO way I would have spent a night there!! We stopped into the restaurant to grab a bite to eat and a drink and it was FILTHY!! The glasses in the bar hadn't been washed or dusted in probably close to a year, the restaurant was cluttered and dirty, the owner could barely be bothered with us and there was no one else in the place!! Hence some of us only got a drink and no one would eat there!!
