Probably the best value accomodation for tourists and backpackers in northern Pemba. There's 3 small bungalows available for much cheaper than the local all inclusive resorts like Manta / Aiyana / Pemba paradise. There's hot water and a fan in each room and you can have optional Breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a only a 2 minute walk to the beach and some of the best snorkeling around. They can also book you boat, flying fox, scuba (Afro Divers) and walking tours if you like. Contact Saidi direct via WhatsApp to arrange your stay +255 772 270 396. To get there you can take a dala dala from Konde for 2000 tzs. Dala dalas to Konde from Chake Chake cost about the same.

Pemba Moonlight gave us an amazing experience in Pemba, they made us love Pemba. My partner and I stayed at the bunaglows for 3 nights and ate at their restaurant every night. We also enjoyed their breakfast every morning, included with our stay. They are very flexible with timings, just tell them when you want to eat and they will have the delicious food ready! There is no menu, you must book ahead- every night they served something different from the lcoal market, made special for us. The bungalows were perfect for us. Very quite, peaceful, and share a local beach with a 5* hotel. Sunsets are amazing!! However is quite affected by tides. There is snorkeling just off the shore, just swim 10-15 minutes out and you will see coral and colourful fish. Perfect! There is a local tour guide service as well, which we took another snorkeling trip with (check out Pemba Tours). The bungalows are quite far from the ferry terminal and airport, from the ferry we took the local bus and then motorcycles and it took probably took almost two hours, a taxi is obviously a bit quicker. It's in the middle of a little local village, which was nice to walk around in; there aren't really shops or other restaurants around, aside from the two other hotels within walking distance, which make it a perfect local experience. This was fine for us, as their restaurant is amazing, then after dinner we went to one of the hotels for an evening drink. Also please know that the only ATM on the island is in Chake Chake! Thank you, thank you Said and your team, we will not forget our experience!!!!

We spent a wonderful time (22.08.2020-04.09.2020) in the moonlight. The rooms are spacious and clean and you have a small terrace to yourself. In the evening you can hear and see the bushbabies and enjoy the peace and quiet. Saidi (the owner), Fatuma (Saidis Wife) and Musa (emploee) are a great team and great hosts. We felt like we were part of the family. Fatuma and Musa runs the small restaurant and taught us to bake Cibattabread. Saidi, Sija (touristguide - Pemba Island Tours) and Musa organized excursions for us and accompanied us, the trips were just breathtaking and unforgettable. The beach is 2 minutes away on foot. The next larger city is half an hour away by moped. ATMs can only be found in Chake Chake. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive from the airport to the Moonlight, but it's worth it. We recommend the Moonlight to everyone who wants to escape the stressful everyday life and wants to enjoy pure Peace, nature and a good service. Thanks to the Moonlight team. Yours Rustam and Regina

This stay was the pinnacle of my travels around East Africa. I fell a little in love with Saidi and Fatuma who have built a gorgeous place. The bungalows are so charming, with all you need for a wonderful rest. Warm shower, comfortable beds and I even had a hammock to lie and stare into the middle distance from. The food was lovely and every need was catered for, with Sija and Saidi taking care of the excursions, although to be honest, with one of the most beautiful beaches imaginable just 2 minutes up the path, you could quite contentedly hang around the vicinity all day. With breakfasts and other meals to order, the little community that gathers around the tables in the kitchen/dining area was charming. I miss it all and will be back very soon. Thank you Saidi

Great value place to stay on Pemba where most options are seriously expensive. Owned and run by lovely local family. Bungalows are spacious and beds comfortable. Shower a bit temperamental. Included breakfasts are great. We also ate there for several dinners and good value food. Amazing beach is about 200m away. The guest house does not sell alcohol due to licensing issues but you can always walk about 5 mins to the Ayiana hotel. They are very welcoming to non-residents and even allow you to log on to their hotel wifi for a one off $5 fee. The area around the guesthouse is beautiful and there are lots of places to see on day trips organised by Said, the owner.

Wonderful place run by a lovely local family! The garden around the cottages is beautiful & already a great place for birdwatching (2 of the 4 Pemba endemics seen here) & there's a pristine white beach just 2 mins walk away. Food also very good! Said & his family are very welcoming & were always available to help advise or arrange local activities. A stark contrast to large expensive foreign-owned lodges in the area, really appreciate this place that makes Pemba accessible to those with a tighter budget!

We loved our stay at moonlight. The staff is lovely and really friendly. You can do tour with Sija who are really friendly and invested. The place is remote and very quite. If you are looking for a charming place during your trip without selling your kidney this is the place to go. I would love to come back once.

We enjoyed a wonderful excursion with Said and Ali snorkelling and to the mangroves. We also visited his apartments and would recommend them to anyone wanting to stay in this little slice of paradise. Said was very attentive to our needs and we felt very safe and looked after.

We happened to find the place by chance, and it was the best thing that could have happened! They not only serve delicious food at a great price, as they are locals they can organice you some really amazing tours. Also they have some bungalows if you need accommodation, it's just a terrific place to stay if you are into meeting the people that live there and have a wonderful beach near by. Even though they might be just starting, they are really well organized!

Pemba is a beautiful, safe, largely untouched gem. It is 100% safe - you can move around freely and explore the island at any time. To better experience the island, we chose authentic accommodation, the Moonlight Guesthouse & Restaurant. Said is the owner and from Pemba - so you also support local tourism development. We can't thank Said enough. The team at Moonlight was a real joy - always in a good mood, helpful and you can feel their efforts to make the perfect holiday possible for their guests. The incredibly beautiful beach (which is shared with a 5 star hotel) is 2 minutes away & has its own loungers for Moonlight guests. You can lie in the sun, discover fish/corals etc. while snorkeling or just take a break in the shade. Wonderful beach days are guaranteed. The food at Moonlight is a real highlight - we loved it. Every day there was a different fish - with salad & rice - you can't eat better anywhere. Top! And incredibly cheap too. You should definitely book a beach barbecue. Then you can enjoy an incredibly romantic meal right on the beach. It's an unforgettable experience. The bungalows have everything you need: fan, mosquito net, hot water, otherwise they are minimalist. The bed was surprisingly good, we slept great. The outside area is also very nice and offers seating for reading or chilling. Most importantly, it was clean and towels were provided. We were also grateful for Said's recommendation. We went on 3 trips - great experiences - from lonely sandbanks, to colorful coral reefs, to the fish market, spice farm, sailing on a fishing boat into the sunset, visiting a school. We enjoyed every second with PembaIslandTours (pembatrips.com - Mr. Sija) and were able to get to know the country and the people a little better. Highly recommended!! Thank you Said!
