Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Moving to Whitestone in the next few months and had to scope out where to get good sushi. Akiyama was on everyone’s list and they did not disappoint. Had the sushi for two and it was fresh and extremely tasty. This is the go to...spot. Go.More

My friend who lives locally suggested we meet here for lunch. We came @ 20 years ago and as soon as we entered, I vaguely recognized the place. It’s very clean and orderly. We sat right away and looked at the lunch specials. I ordered...2 yellowtail rolls which came with soup & salad & friend had a box special. My fish was so fresh & delicious- I was very pleased. My friend enjoyed her lunch as well. Staff kept refilling our green tea and the service was excellent. We will definitely visit here again before another 20 years passes!More

Along with fresh fish, well prepared sushi/sashimi and other cooked dishes, the owners are wonderful friendly hosts, providing great service. When the phone doesn't stop ringing for takeout orders, and the restaurant is always busy even on a Tuesday night - you know you've found...a gem. We have eaten at Akiyama's for at least 10 yrs, regularly every month until we moved out of the area.More

In 2000 and 2001 we used to visit this restaurant every week. Then we moved to Australia. When ever we return to the USA we visit this restaurant. It’s always as good as we remember it. Fresh, clean, delicious and friendly. Thank you.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. I have been eating here for over 20 years. It’s family friendly, the service is phenomenal, and the sushi is delectable! If you love Japanese food and fresh sushi I highly recommend Akiyama.

Amazing food, and decent service. The price wasn't bad either. Very glad we stopped in for lunch, you can't go wrong with the menu from the looks of it.

This is a small neighborhood place. Staff has been the same for years. Food is always fresh and very consistent. Their dumplings and chicken teriyaki are fabulous. Closed on Sundays.

We have been going to Akiyama for many years. The food is consistently good and is always fresh. The owners and staff are friendly and make you feel at home. I would highly recommend this restaurant for good, reasonably priced Japanese food.

Ordered delivery and was very happy with our order. The food was fresh and hot. The sushi was great and everything I would expect from an area next to the sea. We ordered from them about 3 different times while we were there. The won...ton soup was delicious as well.More

We eat here as often as we can. My husband loves sushi, and says this is the best and freshest sushi in Queens. I don't eat sushi, but just about everything else on the menu. The appetizers - gyoza, tatsuta age and beef negimaki are...delicious. The crabmeat/cucumber salad is out of this world. I've tried just about all the "non-sushi" options, such as the chicken, beef, salmon, cooked various ways. Everything is consistently fresh and delicious. The place is always full of regulars, and not hard to see why. We have been coming here for years. Prices are reasonable, service is great and all the staff are very friendly. They do treat you like family....More

Since moving here in 1995, I have tried every Japanese restaurant in NE Queens at least once and keep coming back to this one, because it is consistently the best. The food equals or exceeds the very best Japanese restaurants in Manhattan. The service is...fast and friendly, as is take out and delivery. For commuters, it is located just a short hop from the Whitestone Expressway, with easy off/on access. Try it...you will not be disappointed! Great prices, super service, great food, and plenty of free, off street parking too.More

I have been coming to Akiyama since 1996 and even if you are a new customer you will feel like family!! Your hosts Ray and Winnie will always remember you and what you like!! You can sit at a table or the sushi bar, they...have a nice selection of beer and sake. Ray is always sharing his new creations with customers for feedback. Ray and Winnie are very active in the community and raise their children here as well. If Ray serves it in the restaurant, you can believe it is good and honest!! You don't have to travel out of Queens for good sushi!!! Try the sushi martini app., it's amazing!!!More

The sushi here is the freshest sushi I have had in NY, even more fresh than Manhattan and for half the price. After living in CA our expectations were high considering CA has the most fresh fish and versatile menu, but after searching for months...we went to this little place located in a CVS shopping center recommended to us by a friend and had the best sushi we have had in 2 years for half the price we paid in Manhattan. The menu has a lot of different roll options, and when we modify different items such as add tempura bits on top or a special sauce or cucumber to the spicy tuna roll they are very accommodating. They have an only Japanese menu also, as we have noticed and have been hesitant to try any Chinese/Japanese or Thai/Japanese restaurants that only exist in NY as well! There is a wide variety of bento boxes and other traditional Japanese food, and the shrimp and vegetable tempura is very good as well! We always order it as an appetizer along with the ever too popular edamame...all for under $50 for two people including drinks, tax and tip!More
