Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It’s the only kosher Chinese restaurant in Riverdale, and so I am happy it’s here. The food could be fresher. I especially, I’m annoyed by the soup which tastes of being in the pot for many many days. I hope they don’t continue to take kosher diners for granted. We pay more- we deserve fresh food.

We order from Kai Fan frequently. The delivery is pretty quick and the food is good. The prices are a little expensive, but that's life with kosher meat. We enjoy the egg drop - wantan soup, noodles, chicken and broccoli, and many other dishes. We usually request that they add less oil - which they do. The sushi is more reasonably priced and very good.

My family and I went here for dinner on Mother's Day, because we were already in the Bronx and decided to try some place new (to us). We made reservations in the afternoon for 6:00 PM and were seated as soon as we arrived. The restaurant is a good size, not huge and not tiny, and it is clean, bright and airy. The menu is extensive, with most of the usual dishes that you see on every Kosher Chinese restaurant and take-out menu, but it also had some dishes we have never seen before. My family of four each tried something different and we all enjoyed our meals, The only appetizer that was worth warning people away from was the sesame noodles, as these were sweet noodles which doesn't work so well with peanut sauce. The scallion pancake was the best we have ever had though, so it made up for the noodles. The dumplings and soups were very good as were the entrees. I have never before had moo shu pastrami, but it was very good.

This restaurant is very overpriced.
I paid lots of money for very little food.
The cashew chicken had almost no chicken. It was mostly celery. I paid $23 for about 1$ worth of food. The lamp in the lamb curry was also very meager and tough to chew for $33!! The salad in the steak salad was terrible. All in all , it was a big waste of time and especially money for very little food. I would not go back to this place!

Here is my story: I ordered over 66$ worth of food the other night, including something called mock crab and a maki role. The crab was indeed "mock" or more like muck, completely without flavor and resembled rolled-up bits of cardboard, coated in bread crumbs and smothered in a sweet syrup. (I imagined one of those ingenious vegan dishes any descent chief can prepare these days, not glop that looked like it was poured out of a jar). The so-called "maki" amounted to about 6 small slices of mostly cucumber surrounding a dollop of fish. A small scallion pancake (nothing special here), a fish tartare (not bad but for $17 it should be), and a few sour tasing dipping sauces was what I received for this amount of money: not even enough food for my wife and I for dinner. I called to complain and was told this is a Kosher restaurant, thus the high prices (and the tiny tasteless portions? No response). I was offered a refund of 50% (also to make up for a previous occasion when they took my order and my PayPal money, but never delivered! I should have learned my lesson the.) What I got a day later after submitting a dispute with PayPal was just over 9 dollars! Seriously. This is not only an unethical establishment, but the material they churn out (I can not call it real food) could only be appealing to people completely unfamiliar with real Asian cooking. Sadly, there seem to be a few of these in the Bronx.

We are big fans of Kai Fan. It is so much more than Chinese food. The Sushi is great as are the other asian dishes. Last night, the hot and sour soup was delicious. I had the Satay Grilled chicken with peanut sauce as my main. Always great service and reasonably priced, for kosher food. Great spot for non-kosher clientele as well.
