We have eaten at the Artesian numerous times on our visits to Ojo, the food and service have been fabulous every time. However, when ordering the Green Chile fries this time, I was told they were not Gluten free despite the description of “potato crusted”. I have been told years ago that they were gluten free so I haven’t asked since. Curious why potato flour isn’t used instead of wheat flour? So easy to make gluten free- with all of the GF flour options, probably would turn out even better. I don’t know if the recipe handles changed since years past or not. Such a bummer...

Dear Jennifer B, Thank you for your patronage and for taking the time to write a review. We apologize for any unclear ingredient information you were given in the past about our green chile fries. The breading is a mixture of potato flakes and regular flour and have never been gluten free. Please feel free to ask ask our current wait staff any questions you may have about items on the menus. We have made changes to our menus recently and have many gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. We look forward serving you again in the future. Sincerely, Nathaniel Munoz F & B Manager

We stayed at the Inn, so we had three meals, lunch the day of our arrival, dinner and breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed all of our meals. Breakfast and lunch I would categorize as moderately priced, while dinner is fine dining. We enjoyed all of our meals, but like any restaurant with a creative chef, the appetizers are often the best and most interesting. The mussels appetizer from dinner is one dish we will remembers. Service is excellent. A particular appreciation for Patricia, who served us at both lunch and breakfast. There are some very good wines.

We had dinner and breakfast here. The dinner had very attentive service but the food was average. Breakfast was delicious with poor service. For dinner I has the shrimp fajitas. When my dinner arrived the plate was not sizzling, as one would expect, but the cast iron plate was hot. The tails were left on the shrimp, so I had to burn my fingers to remove them, or wait until my food was luke warm to remove them. Why isn't this part of food prep? The salsa that came with the fajitas had no heat. I asked the server if there was any other options she said no, but she was able to bring me a bottle of store bought hot sauce which helped a little. My wife ordered the scallops and they were good. At breakfast we had the blue corn pancakes and they were very good. We were seated at the window and cold air was leaking in, as the window didn't seal well. By the end of breakfast I was shivering and my nose was running from the cold. To top it off, the server ignored us when we were done eating. We finally had to get up from the table and go to the host/hostess station for them to realize that we wanted to pay and get on with our lives.

Today we went to ojo caiente in hopes of doing a day pass to the hot springs suggested by our concierge from our hotel in Santa Fe! When we got there we found it to be fully booked and no day passes are available! ( the ladies working at the check in were really un accommodating also) We were bummed but it was all good! We decided to check out the restaurant there before we drove an hour back to Santa Fe! And I’m not kidding this place had the WORST service I have had in a very long time. I try really hard to not judge servers because I’ve been one for 15 years and understand it is not easy! But our waitress was awful. I ordered a turkey club sandwich with truffle fries and the fries came out ice cold. Asked for some new fresh ones and she said she had to take my entire plate away because she had to throw the old ones away? What? I said no I will keep my plate so I can eat my sandwich can you please just bring some hot fries? So we get the bill and she charged us for the fries haha. So we ask for it to be voided because we are not paying for extra fries and she is so rude about it. My boyfriend asks for the voided receipt but after waiting for 15 more minutes... no receipt was given and we were super disappointed with the place in general.

Waiter fumbled a bit and was slightly askew. Mistakenly chose the grilled salad when we wanted the kale salad. First bad choice. The tortilla soup was basically warmed up salsa; not at all what we were expecting. The blue corn muffins were excellent and made up for the appetizers. The lamb and fajitas were pretty good. The waiter was accommodating with providing us a bottle of wine to go when the bar closed just 10 min before we left. The springs were excellent but save your money and go to another restaurant.

We went for my friend’s birthday. We soaked or a few hours and came into the bar/restaurant area around 7pm. The service was poor. The waiter said the orders would take a long time because the kitchen was overwhelmed. We ordered some chips and salsa to start because that would take less time. The chips arrived 15’ later. Then we ordered bout entrees . They took 30’, which we kind of expected. But I had to return mine. I had ordered the wild salmon and saffron rice cakes . The salmon was dry and hard and the cakes were burned. My friend order chicken breasts which arrived almost frozen on her plate . That got returned too. The waiter didn’t apologize . He asked if he could bring a new one of each. We said no. We ended up ordering the fish tacos which were edible . We spent 2 hours waiting for food that was barely edible . My friend laughingly said “a bit arrogant to call yourself artesian restaurant and serve such poor quality food” and I agree.

We made reservations and ate at this restaurant located on-site at Ojo Caliente. It was pretty full already at 5:30 so I was glad for the reservation. The server was top notch, attentive and friendly. I had the rack of lamb which was served with mashed sweet potatoes, broccolini, and a brandy reduced sauce. The two racks consisted of double chops which were tender and delicious and were particularly so when mixed with the brandy sauce. I was at first taken aback by the sweet potato mash but it enhanced the overall taste of the meal. My wife had a big bowl of tortilla soup (I had a cup) and a beet salad. Both were delicious, the soup had lots of content in it such as avocado and had more blended tomato than usual which I found delicious. She recommends the beet salad, it is very large and has lots of ingredients such as nuts and goat cheese. We chose the ice cream for desert and were disappointed to learn that for our $8 we only got one flavor of the three advertised, so our excellent server gave us smaller scoops so we could try all three! I will say that we were in no hurry so the relaxed pace of the delivery of our dishes was welcomed, so give yourself time to enjoy this very nice restaurant.

We had two dinners and two breakfasts during our stay here. The food is very good, not spectacular, but for the price and the setting, highly recommend. Had ruby red trout one night and chicken fajitas the next. Clearly good use of local ingredients and flavors, thank you! Both breakfasts were the basic American bacon and eggs. The cooks excelled with it being served hot and presented well. The servers were amazingly good, we'd particularly give kudos to Josh at breakfast who was so very helpful, but not intrusive. Highly recommend.

Went here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Two out of the three meals went poorly. The food IS good, but not good enough with the nonsense going on here, like the staff is wandering around aimlessly at times without really knowing what to do in their roles, even though the majority are very friendly. First, breakfast: The hostess looked at my SO and I like we were an annoying problem to be solved, sat us down. No server greeted us or any water or drink orders for 15 minutes. I watched another couple after us seated and the hostess immediately brought them waters. It took another 5-10 minutes for the server to take our orders. Cappuccino is what I ordered, likely an instant or machine mixed, took another 10. Breakfast arrived, it WAS good, but not enough for the prices they charge or service we provide. I had the avocado toast and SO the chiles relleno Another 20 minutes after we finished, the check arrived, and I had enough time to look at the spa shop and such while SO waited for the check. Second, lunch: We had massage appointments at 2:00 and went to get takeout from the wine bar a little after 12:00 . Ordered ceviche, mussels, and poblano fries, all from the appetizer menu. It took over an hour to get the food and I had to leave to get ready for the appointment, SO brought back the food which was an order of poblano fries and two burgers, not even close to what we ordered. I wonder who ended up with our order and how that conversation went with the manager. Ceviche is something you can make in the morning and let it sit for a few hours in the fridge before serving and mussels do not take that long nor do fries, I know this as a former server and a home cook that makes ceviche and mussels on occasion. Food was taken back and refund requested. They obliged. Fine, although annoyed, and nearly late for the appointment. Heard a lot of other patrons upset the whole time we were waiting for our appetizers. Third, Dinner: I was not expecting much, but the restaurant appears to have a handle on dinner at least. I had the scallops with broccolini and risotto cakes with a pomegranate mimosa and SO the NY strip with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We finally got to try the mussels for an appetizer which are good, and all the dinner was really delicious, but the other two experiences really soured me on the restaurant. This is really one of the only dining options in town, so you either have to go to Taos or Santa Fe for upper end dining. I love this resort and the location is just fantastic, but next time I'll remember to bring easy to prepare food or plan to dine in other locales. The service and food we were provided in Taos was amazing.

The wine bar felt like a snazzy enough place to possibly command $22 for a green chile cheeseburger. I was wrong. The green chile had no taste and no heat whatsoever. In New Mexico, for heavens sake. My complaint was met with, “We’d gotten so many comments that it was too hot..” my guess is they went with the canned green chile route. The Parmesan truffle fries (additional $5 upgrade) had, you guessed it, next to no truffle oil or Parmesan. I asked for more cheese; what they brought was tasteless. There are low quality ingredients at work here. My feeling is that they’ve got you out in the middle of a culinary dead zone (no similar type eating establishments within a 45 minute drive) and they don’t care. For the $$ they’re getting, that burns.

We stayed at the spa for two nights and had booked two dinners at the restaurant because it is the only choice for miles around but ended canceling the second night and driving 45 minutes to Taos rather than eat here a second time. The three strikes: 1) we arrived on time for our reservation (late in the evening, after traveling) and the hostess informed us she would have to put us on the “wait list” and she had “no idea” when our table would be ready. This was not a nice welcome for two hungry travelers who booked the reservation over a month ago. We went to sit in the waiting area. Miraculously, one minute later, she came and fetched us and said our table was ready. (I chalked it up to an inexperienced busser standing in as hostess.) 2. I ordered the little gem salad, which was described as having a mix of Bibb and Romain lettuce, manchego cheese, and “hand torn” croutons. It came, drowning in dressing, with mozzarella balls and store bought croutons. For my main course I ordered the special soup - a green Chile and pork stew - which arrived barely warm. I sent it back. The second soup, hot, was pretty good. My husband ordered the short ribs, a popular main, which were superior to either of my dishes. Finally, 3) the bathroom. Filthy. No soap. Looked like the surfaces had never, ever, been wiped down. This was baffling as the rest of the spa - our room, the lockers, were perfectly clean.

Healthy and delicious. The greens can’t be any fresher, as they come from the Ojo garden,,about 100 yards away…our vegetarian guest stated it was a real good meal! (Being vegetarian is kind like an electric vehicle.) the meals come out like a train, one right after the other, so no delays for anyone. Everyone was very happy with dinner. We were so full and happy, no-one had room for dessert…staff was excellent and did an awesome Job of taking care of our loud, Porsche group…what would I recommend off the menu? ALL OF IT! There is no bad or wrong choice. Make sure you make reservations…..and dress nicely, not in swimming attire…you won’t regret any choice you make…

Evening meal was very good although the amount of food could have been less. What was disappointing was that the restaurant tried to have something for everyone. In a historic place such as this resort they should draw from native and hispanic cuisines honoring those that settled here and the native Americans that were already here. Before the fire the menu had been much better. This is not about having a Mexican restaurant there it is about honoring the local culture. the menu at the Abiquiue Inn does a good job of this and Artesian should learn from them. Breakfast was not good blue corn pancakes had pinion nuts that were not fresh and the coffee was horrible. Service was good at dinner but not good in the morning.

What was to be a special Mother/Daughter trip and Mother’s Day treat for my two daughters, turned into an unfortunate fiasco. The customer service was very disappointing. After receiving the bill I inserted my credit card into a slot in the folder that our bill was presented in. A little later the waiter returned and apologized that my card was apparently lost, he said, it was a blue card, right? He told us they were looking for it. As it turned out the card was never found. We were told to check back tomorrow and a thorough search would be made. Upon returning the manager told us security reviewed the tapes and the card was not in the folder. We asked to see the video and were initially refused. They said he never put the folder down at the processing station upon seeing my card was not in it. My card was absolutely in it as witnessed by my daughters. I had to stop payment on the card and then cancel it after waiting to see if it would eventually show up. We insisted seeing the video which really confirmed nothing one way or the other. It was very dark due to low lighting in the restaurant. The camera was behind me so it was impossible to see me insert the card. It did show me handing the card to the waiter and even the security man confirmed something was sticking out of the folder. It was impossible to tell what it was. They did not back down which insinuated I never included the card. Because of this, a relaxing, enjoyable trip turned into a frustrating, stressful experience. My daughter had to put everything for the remainder of our vacation on her card. They charged the full price of the $172 bill to our room plus a generous gratuity. They finally removed the gratuity and I would have thought at least given a discount on my bill but nothing was done. If they had split the bill, this would have been the fairest outcome. In addition we had to return to this restaurant the next night because of lack of restaurants in this secluded area. My daughter’s appetizer was brought out with the entree. The waiter apparently forgot about it.

We're fairly frequent visitors to Ojo Caliente and we always look forward to dining at the Artesian. During a recent stay, we enjoyed two dinners there, and were fortunate enough to have Zak as our main server. He was professional, knowledgeable and friendly, and made our overall experience even more special. The staff is always accommodating, and the diining options are all well-prepared and quite tasty. Plus they have a good wine selection. Looking forward already to our next visit!
