Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were on LBI a few weeks ago when there aren’t a lot of restaurants open during the week. Saw an ad for El Tepeyac in the Sandpaper and thought we’d give it a try. We are sure glad we did!
The staff is warm and friendly, and the owner came out to see if everything was good.
The food is as fresh as you could get, and the portions were huge! We not only had a second dinner with the food we brought home, but a lunch as well.
We liked it so much we returned the following week and the week after that. This place is a gem!

Was heading down to the island and stopped in for some take out. Very friendly greeting. Great atmosphere. First time here so host brought us out chips and salsa while we waited for our take out meals. Salsa was great! We each had a variation of the rice bowls which were both excellent and way too much food for one person. Great food at a great value! We will definitely will return!

OMG!! THE BEST Mexican any of us ever had. The serving sizes are so large ! Share with someone you love and tip the staff the extra that you save. Best Guacamole ever!! Can’t say enough good things. Great taste and extremely fair prices. It’s a must stop when in the area!

New location on Rt. 72. Love the food here. The salsa is good and the chips are always fresh. I always get the king burrito and it’s huge! Prices are reasonable too and the service is average.

This was our first visit since they moved out to the highway. We are sorry we wasted our taste buds on alternative Mexican options!
We are so happy to be back!
I had the pork tostada and my husband had a pork chile relleno. Both were excellent. Their home-style cooking has such unique and subtle flavors. We love it! We will be back!

This restaurant just recently moved to this new location, which is much bigger with a lot of room. The good was very good & tasty. The portions were huge & we were unable to finish. Very really reasonably priced especially for the size of the portions. We will be frequent diners here

We were so happy when El Tepeyac reopened. The new place is larger and nicer but the food is the same, delicious. Lived in El Paso for five years and fell in love with Mexican food and this place is the real deal. Definately try the enchiladas con Verde or the rellanos. Prices are very reasonable and is BYOB.

The restaurant is decorated and cozy. The food was good but I have had better Mexican food locally. We had tacos and an enchiladas . Again both were good but there is better food if you want to go down the road alittle.

Here's the thing though... there wasn't enough flavor. Everything on the dish was very fresh and presented well. It just didn't seem like there was any seasoning. I will definitely go back again to see if it was a fluke. My son had a burrito and enjoyed it. The salsa was good. Service was very good.

First visit and very impressed with food quality and taste. We had two orders of soft tacos, which each included three tacos. Tried fish and chorizo el pastor (pork).
Decor is very simple, but fine. Appears to be a family-run business, including grandma. Only issue was a long wait, because of large take-out orders ahead of us.
Will return.

The restaurant is small and understated, but is festively decorated and warm. I had the enchiladas rojas, which was delicious. As another reviewer has already mentioned, it does feel like you're eating dinner at someone's home.

This is a tiny restaurant family run, they welcome you like family. Friendly warm and very comfortable. Reminds me of going to a friends home for mexican food. We started off with fried avocado, nice crispy and not greasy at all. It came with a chipotle sauce which was very good. Then I had a chicken chimichanga which was huge enough for dinner and lunch the next day. A side of beans and rice both were good. My husband had the burrito again huge so big he could not finish it. His was also accompanied by rice and beans. Both were served piping hot and you could tell freshly made. The home made salsa was good just needed some heat so I added some hot sauce the chips were good and plentiful. We will definitely go back again. The prices are good the serves is great.

Forget about chain Mexican establishments and do your taste buds a favor when you find yourself in Southern Ocean County NJ. Located on the "old" (East Bay Avenue) highway parallel to Route 72 and situated in an unassuming former breakfast and lunch building, you will be pleased with both the cuisine and service available there. The owner / chef is talented and introduces you real cuisine as enjoyed by our neighbors on the southern border. The tastes and texture flair is simply amazing!

Had a GREAT lunch! My wife and I had Chili Rellenos, one cheese and one beef. Both were excellent!!! We got there and we sat right down. They brought unlimited salsa and chips, no extra charge like other Mex restaurants in town! The wait was a little long, but they cooked the food from scratch. Not all prefab Mex food like other restaurants in town! The food was excellent! We liked the cheese better than the beef, but the beef was tender and delicious. That will be lunch for me tomorrow!!! I REALLY recommend this place. It only has about 15 tables so be patient. Or go after the rush hour. The price was VERY reasonable! We'll be there next week! Enjoy!
