Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great food; no atmosphere. The won ton soup was wonderful, so too sesame chicken. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended. Shanghai's soup dumplings far surpass others'. We discovered this restaurant by accident when we first moved to the area and would get lost. So happy we got lost in front of Shanghai! It was packed, a very good sign, pre-pandemic. Probably the best...Chinese comfort food you'll ever have. We visit regularly and are left craving nothing, completely satisfied. Balanced, never too salty or sweet. Excellent tea is served with food. Super fresh veggies, wonderful options for vegetarians, too. Our vegan friends love this place as well. Shanghai is the first place our daughter wants to eat at when visiting home from college.More

They used to be very good. Never again. They were our go to place as they are nearby and we are year round residents. Absolutely burnt and greasy

So glad we found this place! We were hungry on the way home from south Jersey. A quick check on TA pointed to Shanghai. I could not find any parking space in the restaurant's parking lot. Instead of giving up on this establishment, I parked...my car in one of the street metered parking. We had to wait for 15 minutes or so, but it gave us time to decide what we wanted to order. For hungry two people, food was yummy and services efficient. Our tea pot was never empty - the serving staff kept filling it up with more warm water.More

Really neat low key restaurant. Dishes were delicious. We ordered soup dumpling, shrimp dumpling, rice and sausage in banana leaf. There is a parking lot around back. Staff was very patient and helpful.

This place comes extremely close, if not on par, with authentic dishes you'd find (if you know where to look) in NYC Chinatown and Flushing. Love their braised pork belly, kung pao chicken, sauteed veggies, brothy pork dumplings, and other dishes. The pork rib is...tasty but a bit on the sweet side for me - though we finished the serving! The free tea they serve is also of better quality than what most chinese restaurants serve. If you get a rewards card, you get a free order of their brothy pork dumplings on your sixth order. Some dishes tend to be on the spicy side but you can ask for the mild versions. I don't come here too often because I would gain weight if I did.More

Get the all day breakfast dumpling soup chock full of dumplings. Order the soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, she may, and pea shoots. Or just order EVERYTHING! All is good in the tiny restaurant with parking in back. BYOB!

A very large group of us ate lunch at this location earlier this week and I have mixed thoughts on how to position this review. We were a diverse group of people who have traveled and lived in many parts of the world, so we...had some very informed opinions on the quality/authenticity of the dishes. The restaurant isn't large, but it was able to accommodate us easily enough. The floor-to-ceiling windows can be a little bright at midday, but they finally lowered the shades to give us a respite from the blinding sun. We decided to eat family style and ordered probably a dozen or more dishes off the menu to share (including multiple servings of each dish). Once our orders were placed, the kitchen starting churning out dishes at an impressive pace. Service was mostly attentive and friendly, but I think they could have cleared empty dishes faster, though it didn't diminish the experience. An overall statement on the food is that everyone seemed to enjoy it, and there was enough variety in what was ordered (including in the level of spice) to accommodate most preferences. There were a few members of the group that didn't eat pork, and nearly every dish seemed to have some kind of pork element in it, including even some 'vegetable' dishes like the roasted eggplant. That is typical in Chinese cooking, but I think the restaurant would do well to consider Western diets and preferences a little more. On to some of the dishes: I wanted to enjoy the scallion pancake with beef, but thought that it was far too heavy in its deep-fried format. Our group seemed to really enjoy the dumplings. The pea shoots sauteed with garlic was probably my favorite dish of the whole meal. The sauteed string beans with pork were also a favorite among the group, as were the tofu and roasted eggplant. The sesame chicken and braised beef and noodles were OK, but didn't stand out among the other dishes. We finished the meal with steamed sweet red bean buns which were a big hit with everyone. Hot green tea was served throughout the meal. There was one standout moment at the end of the meal that stuck in my mind and cost them a star for sure. An order of crispy dough was delivered to the table. The server correctly surmised that it would be better to cut it up for our large group ('A' for anticipating our needs). He proceeded to the register where he pulled a pair of scissors out of a cup of pens, cut the dough into pieces and then put the scissor back in the pen basket ('F' for hygiene). If that's the shortcut they take in front of us, I don't want to know what they do in the kitchen, which is a shame because it seems most of our group enjoyed the meal and the dishes were otherwise nicely prepared and presented.More

Went here since our favorite place was closed for renovations. Small place with about 10 tables. Ordered xiao long bao. They had good amount of juice but lacked flavor in the meat. Amount of meat was kind of small, especially since we just had been...to Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown. The vegetable dumplings were disappointing- they used store bought skins and filling was very sparse . They weren’t steamed enough and appeared to be old since the edges were dried out and different color. You-Tiao was large quantity but quite doughy inside. Unfortunately they already ran out of soy milk by 12:30🙁. Scallion pancake with beef on the oily side with thin layer of beef which lacked flavor. Overall, not up to what we usually get in other places. Quantities were good, but for those looking for authentic flavors might be better off elsewhere. But the place did seem to get decent amount of business while we were thereMore

We took a punt on this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. Wow, amazing food! The menu may not be the longest I have seen at a chinese restaurant but it was enough. Good variety and very reasonable prices. I strongly recommend the...home made dumplings and the green beans with stir fried pork! Mouth watering!More

This is your ideal pit stop while waiting for treacherous inbound friday afternoon traffic on the GWB to clear. Great flavorful soup dumplings and the spicy noodle soup kicked my butt.

Several varieties of dumplings, comes in 6 with sauce, buns come in 3 - very good. It will get crowded in the evening, especially on weekends, plus you may have to wait longer since there are quite a few "order on line" customers. It's called..."restaurant" and if you are expecting a clean table with white crisp napkins, don't. This is a small Chinese food place, but the food is very good and reasonable. I highly recommend. No alcohol served, so BYO. We tried dumplings, cold noodles, Udon (white thick noodle), and other specials. They accept credit cards, but if you pay in cash, they give you 10% discount from your total bill. This was a delightful find in Fort Lee.More

Nothing fancy but the real deal in Chinese food. Feels very family run. Extremely friendly...but the best part is the food. Try soup dumplings and have the waiter show u proper way to eat them. Salt and Pepper shrimp were amazing. Again have the waiter...give u instructions if u are unfamiliar with this dish. I saw so many other great dishes on other tables but I was stuffed. Can’t wait for another visit.More
