Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We so enjoyed our dinner here we returned again for lunch during our stay. A great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious meals. You can play a game of pool or the poker machines. The vibe is lovely. Thanks for making us so welcome.

What a great experience. The chef was both personable and talented. Service was good. My husband had what he described as the best steak ever. I shared his steak which was wonderful and had a salad. The atmosphere was casual, comfortable and there was live...music. My only regret was that we were leaving the next day and couldn’t go there again.More

This was a really great place to stop at to grab a few things. The people at the front counter were super helpful in finding Bear Spray. They also had a little bit of everything, including decent produce!

My cousin, Nancy, myself and later my husband, had an expected poor treatment from an male employee with a tattoo on his leg behind the bar. It started with my mentioning that the last couple of times we purchased pizza, the crust was dark brown...and not of the usual wonderful quality. The male employee directed me to Tanner in the kitchen. Tanner handled the situation perfectly. He asked me to let him know when this happens in the future. Tanner said, "Just call next time." I told him I had been calling for the past hour and there was no answer and the answering machine was full. Tanner talked to the male employee about the phone situation and asked him to take our order. He took his time with his back to us fiddling on the screen. Then he left again to go to another table. It seemed like he was intentionally ignoring us both in placing the order and paying for it. My cousin said "Why don't you get the order pad on the other side of the bar." So I did. When he finally did give us his attention, it was to say "Have you ever worked a job?" There was a pregnant pause while I wondered where this was going. "How would you like someone going in your work space? Then he continued to chide me with how intense I was and could I lower the intensity, motioning wildly with his arms. I didn't know I was intense. I told him that forget it, I can buy a pizza somewhere else. We finally got a menu and I decided to still purchase a pizza here, ignoring this jerk. Because of the delay in placing our order, and paying for it, we extended our pickup time 15 minutes. Tanner asked him twice to let us pay for our order so we could just pick up the pizza and go. There were under 10 people in the restaurant. We proceeded to go to Chico Saloon for a drink as there was no way we felt comfortable at the Outpost. There were 80 to 100 people in the bar. We had a friendly waitress that took our order within 5-10 minutes after providing a menu and even had time to refill our water glasses, which were never asked for but much appreciated. The difference in service was dramatic. We are 66 to 78 year old people who have worked and lived in the valley for 35+ years. We have an art gallery and four vacation rentals which Emigrant Outpost was a recommended dining location to all of our guests. I apologized to the tattoo-legged man for getting the order pad from behind the bar. When Gary picked up our order, the employee made a dramatic show about showing my husband the pizza so Vicky could approve it. I know its hard to get employees, but one shouldn't hire one that scares off their customers. We tip even with pick up orders, but not this time. The reason for my rating is strictly due to our treatment by this employee. The pizza ended up being wonderful and Tanner was great! I have better things to do than write a bad review but we all woke up thinking about the experience this morning as well as talked about it over our dinner with three other people (potential customers). Now I don't know whether to consider recommending this restaurant. Hubby says 'No'. Two other people at the bar gave us sympathetic looks and left.More

Rustic, so Montanan and good food. Limited menu to hamburger, French dip, fish and chips, steak and salads...and many varieties of pizza. The salads are unexpectedly crisp, European mix of greens, nicely eye appealing and tasty. I also had a hamburger (1/2 lb) that was...very good.More

Burgers were good. Setting was authentic. This is not a fake tourist trap. Service was great. Glad we stopped here. Too bad we missed a concert here. Check their schedule in the Spring.

Stopped by this restaurant/bar with my wife on our way back from Yellowstone park. Many restaurants in Gardiner and Emigrant were closed, either due to the season or because of staffing issues, but this place was chugging along with what seemed like one woman bartending/waiting...tables and a lone cook working the kitchen. Despite being very clearly shorthanded, Jessie the waitress was kind, quick, and chipper. She was working her tail off and did it with a smile. Even after spending only an hour here, we could tell the Outpost is a family-owned place that caters to local regulars, but we never felt unwelcome. The food came out quicker than expected and tasted great. If you get the chance, I highly recommend stopping by and enjoying the people, drinks, and eats. It’ll be worth your while!More

The food here was good. We're from northeast and previous reviewers raved about the pizza . .. I'll be kind and say, it is nothing like what is served in the northeast! Otherwise, we had burgers and chicken that where good. The area has a...staffing issue, which we're ok with/understand; they are on the slower side.More

My husband and I ate at this restaurant with our two kids. The food was very good, cocktails strong and service very friendly. They were short staffed but the two people on the floor hustled and handled it all. They even managed to find time...to stop and chat with us. Our waitress gave us great tips for viewing wildlife in the area and showed us pictures of some that she’s encountered. Thank you for a great meal, service and the super friendly atmosphere!More
